A Trip to the Moon

David and Maddie have been together for four weeks and Maddie is wondering where their relationship is going. She thinks all they do is sleep together. David expresses his love for her but she doesn't know what she wants. They both have fantasies. The first is when they are together in 'The Honeymooners', where David plays Ralph and Maddie is Alice. The next fantasy is when Dr Joyce Brothers advises Maddie and finally Ray Charles and The Raelettes give some advice to David. At the end, she cools their relationship while she works out what she wants and flies to an unknown destination.

David felt the previous evening went well, unaware that Maddie has left town and gone to her home town, Chicago. Herbert and Agnes announced that they also went out on a date. A client comes to Blue Moon and wants it to find a particularly beautiful woman whom he saw at a charity ball. After dancing all night, she just vanished. The only clue is a valuable ear ring she left. However, there is more to the story, as David finds out. Maddie finally contacts David from her parents' home and explains the situation.

It's been a week and David is desperate to hear from Maddie, even getting Agnes to come to work at 5 am. Maddie's lethargy at home is starting to wear on parents, particularly her father. A groom goes missing on his wedding day and the bride's brother wants Blue Moon to find him. The man's house has been cleaned out and they know that he is a pilot. When they find the man they find out that he is married, yet there turns out to be a problem with the bride's story.

It's been two weeks and Maddie's father is determined to find out why she is avoiding going to her own home. Her parents decide to have a dinner party. Whilst there, Maddie meets a doctor who is interested in her. David is sure she'll return and does his best to keep up morale at Blue Moon. However, he still mopes about her. Bert and MacGillicudy are fighting over Agnes, and Bert is particularly upset because he has misread the situation. David stops him from doing any damage and takes him to a bar to help him forget. Whilst there they meet two lovely women. Maddie gives Agnes some big news.

Cool Hand Dave: Part 1

Agnes is excited at the news of Maddie's pregnancy but is having a lot of trouble keeping it a secret and she blurts it out to Herbert, just after he had apologised to Agnes. He in turn can't keep it a secret and tells David that Maddie is pregnant. David decides to fly to Chicago to see her. In the airport his identity is stolen by a criminal and he finds himself arrested and in jail. After he starts a food fight during his first meal, David finds himself in solitary confinement. Meanwhile, Herbert continues his romantic pursuit of Agnes.

Cool Hand Dave: Part 2

With David missing and in jail, ABC starts looking for a replacement, unsuccessfully. Released from solitary, he ends up on a work gang. His fellow workers give him advice on what he should do with Maddie, musically (with apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan). The main piece of advice is that he should marry her. David manages to get out of his cell through a tunnel and reach a phone to telephone Maddie. Whilst there he finds a bent warder and a warden turning a blind eye. Herbert is the acting supervisor. He is throwing his weight around and is becoming disliked in the office. Agnes and Herbert go looking for David and find the criminal who stole his identity living in his place.

Father Knows Last

Maddie starts getting morning sickness and her mother guesses what has happened. The furniture is being repossessed and the staff at Blue Moon are rebelling because they haven't been paid. Herbert's dictatorial attitude is not helping the situation. The staff want no work and pay. When David finally turns up, there is little furniture and no staff. Maddie's father turns up to speak to David about Maddie. Their discussion ends up in an argument and they depart on bad terms. David thinks about it and catches up to her father to apologise, and to put his side of the situation. They end up on the same side and her father gives David the money to solve Blue Moon's financial situation.

Los Dos Dipestos

Agnes' mother is returning from a holiday in Mexico. On her return journey, some stolen gems have been planted on her to be smuggled back into America. When the criminal wants his gems back, Agnes and her mother find themselves in a car chase and a break-in. With David and Maddie away, it is up to Agnes and Herbert to solve the situation.

Fetal Attraction

With Maddie's baby on the way, David is concerned about there being so much to learn. Following Agnes' suggestion, he tries to enroll in a Lamaze class. When he is rejected, David tries to practice on Herbert. When that fails, he goes looking for an unwed mother. A woman comes to him and asks him to help her through the birth of her baby. So he does the class with her. When Maddie receives a package with childbirth books and later learns it came from David, she realizes that she wants to be home.

Tracks of My Tears

Maddie returns home by train. She is still unsure about David and has dreams and nightmares about being married to him on the trip back. On the journey, she meets a systems analyst returning to Los Angeles and they become friends. They stop over in Las Vegas, which brings about some sensational news when she eventually gets back to Blue Moon.

Eek! A Spouse!

The news of Maddie's marriage affects the office, but not David. He appears happy as he knows the baby is not his but does not really want to believe she is married. However, Maddie gives Agnes an explanation for why she married Walter. A woman wants to save her marriage and asks Blue Moon to approach her husband's mistress with an offer of money to go away. When she kills him in self defence, Herbert is suspicious and works out what must have happened.

Maddie Hayes Got Married

David finally gets to meet Walter when he invites him to the office. During an argument with Maddie, David offers to throw her a big wedding, complete with a bachelor party. When David's Lamaze partner goes into labour during the wedding, it all comes to a head at the hospital.

Herbert has spent three weeks guarding a frost-proof grapefruit but all he can think of is Agnes. He asks her to move in together but initially she says no. Sitting at home, Herbert sees his life with Agnes in a series of old movies, including Prince of the Desert and Casablanca. When she says yes, it doesn't quite go as he planned.

And the Flesh Was Made Word

Maddie and Walter are finally divorced, which pleases the office staff. David and Maddie are asked by a businessman to find a mystery woman who has distracted his partner, which threatens to bankrupt his company. The only clues are in a series of journals that his partner has written. When they track down the mystery woman, they are in for a surprise. Then the businessman is killed. Maddie wants to restart the relationship with David but he is reluctant given what she did.
