When Wilbur tells Ed that horses sleep standing up, Ed suddenly can't sleep at night, leaving him too tired for any activity. Meanwhile neighbor Gordon Kirkwood buys a new Triumph sports car, but refuses to let his wife Winnie drive it. Complaining that his feet hurt, Ed decides to rent a car after Wilbur refuses to buy him one. Ed rents a milk truck and gets behind the wheel, while Winnie tells Gordon she's going home to her mother's if he won't let her drive their new car. Gordon relents, while Ed drives recklessly through downtown, eventually running out of gas and is stopped by a policeman. Four hours after she left, Winnie returns, as a tow truck hauls Gordon's wrecked car home. She tells Gordon she lost control of the car when she saw a horse driving a car. Ed learns his lesson that horses shouldn't drive and suggests that Wilbur might enjoy sleeping standing up. When he tries. Ed gives him a kiss on the cheek.
