Episode 1

In an airplane with many children, a blonde woman goes to the toilet and takes a hidden pistol inside the towel dispenser. She smokes a cigarette activating the smoke alarm. The flight attendant opens the toilet, takes the pistol from the woman and shots the ceiling with the whole magazine, crashing the airplane. Frank Black is in therapy five months after the death of Catherine Black and moves with Jordan to a new home. He goes to his psychiatrist and tells her that he is anxious to work again. The FBI leads the investigation of the crashed airplane with FAA and NTSB under the command of the ambitious, but talentless Agent Barry Baldwin and when Franks has visions of the plane crash, he asks Assistant Director Andy McClaren to participate of the investigation. He meets Agent Baldwyn and Agent Emma Hollis, and she tells him that the fingerprint of the flight attendant were found on the pistol and Balwyn is blaming her, but Frank finds a cigarette in the lavatory and believes the attendant was not alone. When a house blows up with a woman and a two-year-old girl inside, Frank believes the outbreak, the plane crash and the explosion are related, but Andy does not believe him.

At the hospital, Mary has a seizure, but the doctors take care of her and stabilizes her condition. Baldwin is presenting the status of the airplane crash and its connection with the viral outbreak, but Frank Black believes that all cases of the deaths of the blonde women and their daughters are interconnected. When Peter Watts appears in the briefing, Frank accuses the Millennium Group of being responsible for the viral outbreak. Agent Emma Hollis goes to the hospital to talk to Mary and finds her dead in her room. Watching the security tapes, she sees that a man called Mabius injected something in Mary. She finds a digital clock with the number 5:12 on the display. Later she discovers a reference of the secret government program called Grillflame and Frank indicates Dr. Coty from CIA that works at a university to discuss about the project. He tells her that the project developed psychic spies in the 70's and each member was identified by number, and number 512 was the most powerful woman in the project. Now Frank and Emma have a point to start their investigation.

In the Redland High School, in Seattle, the students are celebrating the victory in a championship and the principal announces that the ComLogic Computers has donated a two-million-dollar award in computer systems for the school. Out of the blue, a shooter uses an automatic weapon to shoot people, and three students are murdered and several people wounded. FBI Agents Baldwin and his team are assigned to investigate the case and Det. Bob Giebelhouse is irritated since he had asked for Frank Black. Emma Hollis finds a book but omit the information to Baldwin. Soon Brant Carmody becomes the suspect because of his profile and when the agents arrive at his home, his father, the important executive Chris Carmody, says that his son has just committed suicide shooting himself. Baldwin concludes that Brant committed suicide and wants to close the case, but Frank says that the investigation is flawed and asks Assistant Director Andy McClaren to go to the high school. Emma shows him the book she found and he learns that the book has prayers from the Dark Ages and is signed by "Skylark". Frank and Emma stumble on a group of businessmen and executives that are afraid of the Y2K and believe that it will be the end of the world, and they are preparing to survive the apocalypse.

Emma Hollis investigates the murder of a baker in a low-budget hotel in Washington D.C. She learns that there are two killers and wants to find their motive. Frank Black tells her that a serial-killer not necessarily needs a motive. Soon the killer is identified, Rick Van Horn, and he proceeds his crime spree with his accomplice Peter and their lover Joni. When Joni is arrested by the police, Rick decides to rescue her and the precinct is under siege of snipers to kill the serial-killer.

When the aspirant actress Marta Danbury and the director Lew Carroll are murdered at a hotel room, Frank Black and Emma Hollis travel to South Caroline to investigate the crime scene with Sheriff Fritz Neuenschwander. Soon Frank learns that Carroll was directing a B-horror movie based on a case he had investigated thirteen years ago, and Marta was the lead actress. Frank and Hollis interview the cast and crew and director Rowdy Beeman is the substitute for Carroll and Mark Bianco is the actor that performs the role of Frank Black and realize that many people had benefit with the murders. Further, Hugo Winston, who lost his partner in the real case, is offended with the disrespectful screenplay and when Frank reads the screenplay, he realizes that the writer introduced modifications in the real case to make the movie more commercial. Soon there are two other murders connected to the production of the film, but Frank and Hollis have several suspects.

While opening a road through the woods in Maine, the supervisor of the construction finds skulls and bones on the route. The FBI arrive for investigation with Agent Baldwin in the command and Peter Watts giving support to the operation. Agent Hollis keeps contact with Frank Black, who is in a correlated investigation with the paranoid Ed, who witnessed the first murder of one of the corpses. Frank also questions why the Millennium Group is interested in the investigation of a great number of dead bodies. Until Hollis and he find the link between the killings and the Millenium Group.

In Oregon, a man wearing a hood approaches to a lonely girl in a swing, and she runs away. The police arrest the man accusing of sex offender and after the interrogatory with his lawyer, he discloses the whereabouts of the missing girl Mary that is found dead in a trailer. Twenty years later, Frank Black is summoned to evaluate whether Max Brunell is still a menace to society or may be released on probation, and he votes against. However, he is released and Sheriff Paul Dietz, his father and people of his town despise him. When the girl Shannon McNulty is kidnapped and disappears, the police arrest Max Brunell under the protest of his lawyer Randie Jarret. Frank and Agent Emma Hollis arrive in town and Frank feels that Brunell is innocent. While revisiting the tapes of the interrogation of Max Brunell, he learns the truth about both cases.

Agent Emma Hollis is working at the FBI when Baldwin and Internal Affairs ask her to leave the desk and they arrest her computer and documents, including private correspondence. Soon Frank Black learns that Hollis was tested positive for drug and her correspondence has heroin inside. Hollis travels to Vancouver to meet her junkie stepsister Tamra Caffrey, who claims that her friend Elissa turned into a monster after injecting heroin and the drug dealers Pulga and Johnny threw her off the apartment on the street. Holli interns Tamra in a rehabilitation center. However, there is no body at the morgue to prove what she says and Frank believes she was hallucinating. Hollis explains that she tasted the sample sent by Tamra, the reason why her test was positive. But soon Elissa's body is found floating on the sea and Frank believes Tamra is in danger. Soon they learn that the drug dealers kidnapped her from the clinic to serve to demonstrate that the heroin that the powerful Chinese dealer sells is adulterated turning users temporarily into monsters. Frank and Holli try to save Tamra and find a conspiracy behind the modified drugs.

On 20 December 1989, in Coker Creek, three mobsters bring their friend Eddie "Scarpino" Gianini, who is a hitman that had an affair with the wife of their boss Santo, to be executed and they shoot him. In the present days, in Christmas, Jordan is missing her mother and Frank Black travels on vacation with her to Coker Creek. Soon Sheriff Earl Parker arrests a naked man wearing an overcoat with sixteen holes and the blood of Eddie and he wants to know where the man found it. He asks Frank to help him and the man, Al Ryan, tells them that he is a hunter that was killed by a wolf but was revived by a woman in a cave. Frank goes with Al and the Sheriff to the woods to the place where Al was attacked and finds his wallet. Frank sees a man in the woods and catches him and sees that he is Eddie. Hollis helps Frank in the investigation, since the case against Santo has been jeopardized with the appearance of Eddie Gianini. Frank and Emma investigate the location where Eddie was found, and they discover a hidden cave with two women, Rose and Lhasa, inside. Soon they learn that Lhasa has healing power and has saved Eddie, Al and other people in a clinic. Eddie wants to protect them, but the mobsters want to hit him and the women.

Frank chases the man, but Hollis does not believe that the man is a supernatural being that collects the borrowed time from near-death people that were saved in the past.

Soon Frank receives a tape in Seattle and he starts to see Catherine Black.

However, John is seduced by Lucy and expel Frank from his mansion with tragic consequences for the family.
