In Seattle, a peep show stripper is found murdered by the police. Meanwhile, the former FBI agent, Frank Black, returns to his hometown Seattle with his wife Catherine Black and their daughter Jordan Black to leave a peaceful life in town. However, when Frank reads the murder of the stripper in the news, he visits his friend Bob 'Bletch' Bletcher from the Seattle P.D. to see her body. Frank, who belongs to the Millennium Group, has the weird power to be in the mind of the killer and sees how the girl was murdered. When a gay male hooker is found completely burned, Frank concludes that the serial-killer is following Nostradamus and will not stop his crime spree.

When human ashes are found in a public garden in San Francisco, his friend Peter Watts contacts Frank and asks him to travel to meet him. Before traveling, he installs security lamps to increase the protection of Catherine and Jordan at home. He joins Watts in the investigation and meets his friend Mike Atkins, who invited him to join the Millennium Group and is worried about the Polaroid photos of Catherine and Jordan. Frank tells him that he received other photos in Seattle and Mike concludes the perpetrator wants to terrify him in the moment and is not a menace for now. Soon they identify one of the victims as Eedo Bolow, the son of Russian immigrants. His parents give his last letter in Russian to Frank and his father tells how Eedo changed his behavior when he joined the company Gehenna. Frank returns to Seattle and proceeds his investigation of Gehenna. Soon he finds that the company has imported chemicals and weapons from Russia and China, but Mike is investigating the facility in San Francisco alone.

Frank Black is called in Portland, Oregon, to investigate the brutal murder of a woman and analyze the profiler James "Jim" Horn that wants to join The Millennium Group. Frank believes the murderer is a serial-killer and will attack again. He kills a postwoman and a nurse, and leaves messages to taunt the police. Meanwhile, Frank notes that Jim is a promising candidate, but also stressed by his divorces that keeps the criminal in his head all the time. When they find his possible next victim, the police are ready to protect her and catch him, but Frank needs to hold Jim from his need of revenge and jeopardize the case.

In Seattle, the mechanic Jonathan Mellen is killed in his garage by his coworker Carl Nearman. Soon an old widow, Annie Tisman, receives a tongue by mail from a bogus sender. Lt. Bob 'Bletch' Bletcher summons Frank Black to help in the investigation and he learns that pieces of other victims have been mailed to unrelated people along a couple of years, but the bodies have not been found. Meanwhile, a man named The Judge hires the criminal Mike Bardale, who has just been released from the prison, to help him to promote justice and offering protection to him. His first assignment is to kill Carl Nearman, who worked with The Judge, but failed in his last mission since remove the tongue from Jonathan Mellen when he was dead. Bletch and Frank go to the morgue where the body of Mellen is and Frank says that the body of the John Doe close to Mellen is related to the case. The further investigation of the police find the relation between the cases and Bletch and Frank goes to a bar where low-life in probation uses to go, and they suspect of Bardale.

In Washington D.C., a man explodes a bomb in an English pub, with many casualties and wounded people. Frank Black is summoned and travels from Seattle to Washington D.C., where he meets Peter Watts to work together with the FBI. He learns that the bomber called 911 from a phone booth inside the pub and dialed his signature, the number 522-666 that Frank deduces is the word "KABOOM". Frank also discovers that the bomber watched the blast from a building parking lot, and he felt pleasure with the blow-up. Soon the bomber becomes obsessed by Frank and contacts him, who concludes the man want to be a star, and the FBI tracks his cellphone down expecting to locate the bomber before he attacks again.

In Tacoma, Washington, a Catholic priest is burnt at the stake and Frank Black and Ardis Cohen, who work at the Millennium Group, are hired to help the investigation. They had worked together in FBI on a case where three clerics were murdered, and Frank believes the cases are related. Soon a Protestant minister is drowned in another ritual of Medieval torture. When the killer is in a church looking for a file, he is interrupted and flees but the investigators find his fingerprints at the scene. Meanwhile, the killer murders another cleric, but he is identified as Galen Calloway, who lost his wife and daughter in a fire. Now the police is hunting him down.

In Seattle, after the wake of the college student Jake Cort died in a car crash, a young man arrives at the cemetery and tells Jake's sister Greer that he is "Ray Bell", Jake's friend from college and he meets her mother Mrs. Cort. He leaves the place and when Mrs. Cort is looking at her son's grave, she is pulled into the grave and is violently stabbed. Ray Bell is actually James Dickerson, a young man on probation that lives under the night supervision of Connor at a house for convicts. He visits another funeral, where he befriends the young woman Tina. They leave the house and stop at a lake, where Tina is drowned. Frank Black and Peter Watts are investigating the case, and they succeed to identify Dickerson. However, he claims that he is not the killer, and Frank continues to investigate the case and brings Dickerson's biological mother Mrs. Peggy Dechant to help to interrogate her son.

A woman, Connie Bangs, wanders on the middle of an avenue dressing a robe, and two police officers bring her to the hospital. Catherine Black interviews Connie and learns that she has been abused by her father, Joe Bangs, for twenty-three years, since she was nine. And now she is afraid for the fate of her eight-year-old sister Sara. The problem is that Joe Bangs is a prominent man and "pillar of the society" in Seattle. A.D.A. Rhonda Preshutski and Bletch try to dissuade Catherine from the lawsuit, but she is reluctant to move on to protect Sara from her father.

On the next morning, Bob calls Frank to help him in a murder investigation, where the Highsmith couple were killed by a machete and their daughter is missing. He also tells Frank that the alarm has just worked when the killer left the house. Frank finds Patricia trapped in an air conditioning hole on the wall. Catherine visits her at the hospital since she was forced to watch the killing of her parents. Bob wants to interview the girl, but Catherine tells Bob and Frank that she will be traumatized again and is against the procedure. When the killer attacks another woman with a sophisticated alarm system and kills her with a shotgun, Frank raises his profile of using open house to attack his victims. Further, he finds the reflex of his face in a video he had sent to the real estate agent responsible for the Highsmith's open house. When the crossing guard Cutter "finds" the shotgun in a dumpster, the police officers identify him from the photo of the video. The manhunt begins.

However, her boyfriend Bobby Webber hits Gilroy and puts him in the trunk of his car and leaves the house to seek out Angel. While on the road, a highway patrol officer stops Bobby, and he shoots and kills the officer. Frank and Peter Watts join Capt. Bigelow in the investigation since the fingerprints on the car from Gilroy belongs to an FBI wanted criminal that has been missing for five years. Soon Frank finds that Gilroy did not kill the officer since it not his MO. Meanwhile, Bobby continues his crime spree looking for Angel for Maddy. But who is Angel?

In Pierce County, Washington, the father of Josh Comstock gives a motorcycle to his son on his sixteen-birthday. He tests the bike in his gated community Vista Verde, but a man abducts him using a cattle pod to subdue the teenager. Their parents do not find him in the morning, but later they see his motorcycle parked in front of their house and a body of another teenager in Josh's bed. Frank travels from Seattle to help Sheriff Paul Gerlach in the investigation, and he calls the pathologist Cheryl Andrews to help him. They identify the dead teenager, who had drunk blood, and the Sheriff tells them that he had not warned the community since it was a request from the parents of the dead teenager. They have a tense meeting with the residents of Vista Verde and when Comstock's family returns home, they find the number 331 written on blood on Josh's bed. His father, Tom, tells Frank that the number is the room number where he had an affair with a supplier. Then the teenager Charlie is abducted from his bedroom. After Tom's confession, Josh is released in shock with blood in his stomach. Frank concludes that the deranged man is cleansing the sins of the teenagers' fathers.

In Boulder, Colorado, a man offers ecstasy to a young couple at a nightclub. Then, they go to an isolated place where the couple has sex, and the man refuses to make a threesome. Later, he injects a drug into them, and they are found dead and naked in the other morning in the Eden Garden in the Botanic Garden, posing like Adam and Eve. Frank Black and his colleague Maureen Murphy travel to Boulder to help the misogynist Detective Thomas in the investigation. Meanwhile, the killer is peeping into a swingers' party and when two women leave the house to buy booze in a nearby liquor store, he stops their car posing as a police officer. On the next day, their husbands report that they are missing to the police but soon their bodies are found in a park. Frank sends blood samples to the Millennium Group and Peter Watts finds that the man is possibly a pharmacist. Frank believes that the man has access to drugs and is killing people to fulfill his sexual fantasies. Meanwhile, a young couple that is going to get married on the next day goes to the Art Nesbitt's pharmacy to buy a medication to travel in honeymoon, and Nesbitt drugs them. Will the police and the Millennium team find them on time to save their lives?

Frank Black is summoned to investigate the weird death and soon Peter Watts and Cheryl Andrews join the case. The stranger Dennis Hoffman meets Frank and tells him that he believes the suicidal is connected to planetary alignment that will happen on 05 May 2000 that will cause the doomsday. When a second young woman, Carlin, commits suicide at a waterfall, Cheryl realizes that she is an identical twin born seven years apart from Lauren and living with different family. Their further investigation with Hoffman leads the Millennium Group to Pocatello, Idaho, where they find a group of cloned women created by a man in an iron lung to repopulate Earth after the ends of the civilization. But soon Hoffman and the girls disappear.

Frank Black is visiting his wife Catherine at the hospital, when he sees a woman brutally attacked at home going to the E.R. She immediately dies and Frank sees a cut in one of her hands. He meets Bleetch, where he sees a surveillance video showing the owner of a convenience store being murdered. Frank notes that the killer dropped something on the floor and goes to the crime scene with Bleetch. He finds half a playing card on the floor, and they head to the house of the murdered woman, where he finds the other half of the card. Frank tells Bleetch that twenty years ago, when he was an FBI agent, he arrested the serial-killer Richard Alan Hance, who killed several people including three other agents and marked his hand. But Hance is in prison for life, and now he needs to discover who the copycat is.

In Seattle, Frank Black is the godfather in the baptism of his brother's baby. Tom and Helen Black traveled to Seattle for the ceremony in the church where Tom was baptized. When Jordan goes to another room in the church, Frank goes after her and she tells him that a man is hurting Aunt Helen. Frank returns to Megan and Tom and asks for Helen. Tom explains that she went with the baby to the car and soon Frank finds that she was kidnapped. Bletch asks Frank to back off from the case, but he proceeds the investigation with the unofficial support of Peter Watts. Soon they find a suspect, Richard Green, but the police detectives do not have evidence to incriminate him.

Frank Black travels to Utah to develop the profile of William Garry requested by County Prosecutor Calvin Smith. Garry is a former sheriff that has murdered his wife and three children at home. Garry has confessed his crime and has been convicted, but the prosecutor wants to sentence him to death penalty. Frank visits the crime scene and notes that Garry's statement does not correspond to what he has seen. He believes Garry is an innocent man, but the prosecutor and the whole population want him dead.

Frank Black disappears in Yakima, Washington, and Peter Watts visits Catherine to tell her and to check his office, trying to find his whereabouts. Peter finds emails in his computer between Frank's alias David Marx and Dr. Daniel Miller. Catherine explains to Peter that Frank used this alias when he had a mental breakdown. The Yakima police find Frank in an alley with injured hands and bruises in his body, but without recollection of the last days. Frank and Peter try to find his last steps. When Peter meets Dr. Miller, he says that Frank was looking for a means of ending his gift and accepted to be the guinea pig of an experiment in a medical clinic. But things went awry, and Frank wants to know what happened to him.

Frank Black is summoned by the FBI to present Ephraim's profile since he had been the arresting officer. Peter and Frank investigate his getaway, and the visit Lucy Butler, a woman that was Ephraim's pen pal and now claims that is his wife. Meanwhile, someone threatens Catherine and Jordan, and Bletch and Det. Bob Giebelhouse go to Frank's house to rescue them and investigate the house, But something tragic happens inside, impacting the Black family.

Frank refuses the case since he is still recovering from the murder of Bletch in his home. Catherine convinces Frank to help Peter, and he shows a picture of the man among the people that is watching the crime scene. In a park, a man named Martin is arrested after slicing the throat of a babysitter, and Frank believes he might be connected to Bleatch's murder. Soon his defense lawyer Alistair "Al" Pepper arrives at the precinct and soon the evidence disappears from the evidence room. Pepper invites Frank to be his partner in his office, but Frank refuses. During the audience in court, Martin claims that he killed Bletch. Meanwhile, Mike Atkins from the Millennium Group receives a phone call from someone impersonating Frank. When Martin uses a razor blade to slice his own throat and dies, the coroner informs that the cause of death was an aneurysm. But Mike is murdered, and Frank chases a man that might have killed him, increasing the mysterious murders.

Episode 20

In Williston, North Dakota, the rider Sally Dumont is attacked in her stable and left unconscious. Then she finds her mare murdered in her stall. Frank Black travels to the town and meets Sheriff Falkner that is treating the case without great importance. Frank explains that twenty-one horses have been killed in that are in the past two years and the attacker is escalating and may become a serial-killer. The police find the word "Help" written in blood and semen in the stable, and Frank is afraid that the killer may be feeling pleasure after attacking a woman. Soon the killer attacks pigs in a truck with a cattle prod and when the owner approaches him, he kills the man. The Sheriff believes there is no connection between the attacks, but Frank believes that based on the boot prints and the cattle prod in the crime scene, the killer works in a slaughterhouse. Frank suggests a phone number for the killer contacting him and soon a woman named Mary Ann and her mare are found murdered, and the phrase "Thank You" painted on a wall in blood. When Frank talks to the veterinarian Claudia Vaughan about the murders, he learns about estrogen produced for the cosmetic industry produced by Premarin farms and finds a clue to find the killer.

In New York City, a man is shot in the face and has severed fingers to avoid his identification. Frank Black arrives to help the Brooklyn Lt. McCormick in the investigation, since it is the third similar case with the same Modus Operandi in the Russian community. Frank teams up with the Russian investigator Yuri Surov and the undercover agent Andrei Melnikov and goes to the morgue to see the bodies of the three victims. Frank believes Yuri and Andrei are omitting information and asks Peter Watts to help him. Yuri and Andrei go to a Russian nightclub and Frank arrives in the place. While Yuri tries to convince Frank to leave the club, Andrei is shot in the face by Yaponchik. Franks hears his name, but Yuri tells that Yaponchik is a Russian legend. Peter tells Frank that many Russians believe that Yaponchik is the responsible for the Chernobyl nuclear accident and is connected to the Antichrist. He also shows a photo of Yuri and Andrei in Chernobyl. Soon Franks finds that Yaponchik is Sergei Stepanovich, a man protected by diplomatic immunity in the Russian Embassy that is perpetuating the legend, and Yuri is trying to kill him.

His father-in-law Tom Miller asks Frank to see the case of the son of two friends of him, Malcom, that is in prison for killing his wife but claims that is innocent. Frank revisits the case and soon he also believes that Malcom is really innocent. Meanwhile, the serial-killer Henry Dion, who is a deranged nurse, is camping with the dead body of his last victim. Frank decides to taunt Henry on the television to force him to expose himself.
