This is a documentary drama series which follows a meerkat family in the Kalahari Desert, South Africa, called the Whiskers. Flower is the leader/dominant female of the group, Zaphod is her partner and dominant male, Youssarian is Zaphod's younger brother and Flower's ex-lover and Mozart, Tosca and Shakespeare are all children of Flower. In our journey with this group we'll follow several intriguing events like: Fights with arch rival group the Lazuli; storms; death; family politics and the disappearance of a meerkat we had gotten to know very well.

Preview: Meerkat Manor's Finale Brings Turmoil and Surprises

Watched by more than four million people, one of TV's most addictive soap operas and Animal Planet's current No. 1 series, Meerkat Manor (8:30 pm/ET), ends its third season tonight. "In the finale... there is turmoil in the Kalahari, there's turmoil with the Whiskers and there will be some new groups surprising everybody [and] coming to the forefront," says executive producer Mick Kaczorowski. "It's not quite certain whether or not Rocket Dog, who right now is taking over the role of dominant female, [is] going to be strong enough to lead the Whiskers." Asked if Flower's tragic death, witnessed by viewers on Sept. 28, could break up the family, Kaczorowski answers, "Most likely not, because of how strong a leader she was and what a good mother she was — she passed on those traits." HBO Aims to Rub Out Meerkat's Sopranos Ad

Have you seen and don't you love those print ads for Animal Planet's Meerkat Manor, presenting the critters in a Sopranos-style cast photo and declaring "The Family Is Back" in the same typography? Yeah, well, according to the New York Daily News, cranky, stuffy HBO isn't wild about the animals, and has sent the cabler a cease-and-desist letter claiming copyright violation. In response, a representative for the meerkats chittered something that sounded an awful lot like, "Thanks for the free publicity, idiots!"

Animal Planet's Meerkat Manor: Burning Questions Answered!

Are you a furry friend of Animal Planet's Meerkat Manor (new episodes air Friday at 8 and 8:30 pm/ET)? If so, these burning questions and expert answers are for you! Who names the meerkats, and what criteria do they use to come up with the names? The Cambridge University researchers named most of the meerkats as a way to tell them apart, and assigned some names based on personalities, as with heroic Shakespeare. Others got their names a bit more randomly. "They just run out of names sometimes," says Meerkat Manor executive producer Mick Kaczorowski.
