Mary begins to stand out in the literary workshop that she frequents and her passion for literature is reborn. Coni has a secret romance hidden from her parents, while Simón, without realizing it, coexists with torture. Mike obtains the approval of the director of the intelligence service and will become the person in charge of carrying out the international political attacks of the organism, for Mary the opportunity to live experience that will be able to use in his literature.

An Italian terrorist visits Chile to perpetrate the next objective. An error and misunderstandings make the mission a failure, Mike must return to Chile. Mary must stay in Europe a couple of days, to not raise suspicion. When Mike arrives to Chile, he faces the fury of Sarmiento, and his daughter's boyfriend discover his true job. Mary disobeys the instructions and returns to Chile, while Mike seeks comfort for his frustrations in Monica's arms.

Mary meets a boy who catches her attention in the literary workshop, Mike suspects and spies on her. In the midst of a marriage crisis, no one notices that Coni, devastated by the sudden disappearance of Javier, has begun to approach dangerously to Aqueveque, product that her brother Simón has been suffering bullying in school. In the midst of the family storm, Mary will face a ruthless crime, while Mike will have to decide whether or not to betray one of his Cuban friends.

Orlando Letelier, former minister and ambassador of President Allende, leads the Chilean opposition from Washington D.C. Sarmiento thinks in a hit unprecedented and suicidal: go to the United States and get rid of Letelier. Mike assumes the mission with Monica, leaving Mary out of it. Mike must convince the anti-Castro Cubans to help them, but they still resent Mike's betrayal. Mary discovers that she was spied on and demands explanations from Sarmiento, who humiliates her by making her question about her literary talent. Meanwhile, in their own house, Coni, in a night of youthful drunkenness and national holidays, will pay the brutal price of getting too close to Aqueveque. Mike in Washington D.C, achieves his mission: Orlando Letelier dies due to a bomb placed in his car. The Chilean intelligence service has made its most brutal blow.

Letelier's crime has shaken the world and the regime suffers the first tumults of international pressure. Coinciding with the visit of the writer Jorge Luis Borges to the country, the US Attorney Eugene Roberts has traveled to Chile ready to take the killer of Letelier with him, even without knowing who it is. Sarmiento, desperate, executes a raid on all involved and Mike manages to escape thanks to the complicity of Monica. In the face of obvious danger, Mary takes their children out of the house and moves them quickly to the only safe place she can think: her maid's house in a popular town in Santiago. Here Mary and her children will know the real face of the dictatorship. The family is forced to decide whether to stay in Chile and live in permanent danger, or deliver Mike to Attorney Roberts who will spend the rest of his days in prison.
