Episode 1

The Beginning

Day One. San Diego. Preparations intensify as the journey to Antarctica is about to begin. While Cruise Director Amy and Guest Relations Manager Cristhian welcome excited guests onboard; on the bridge, Captain Erwan and a local pilot prepare to guide the ship out of San Diego. In the main galley, Chef Tom guides us through his state-of-the-art kitchen. Tom's immediate focus is his culinary creations for the yacht's premiere restaurant, Chef's Table. Upon arrival at Jacques Cousteau Island, Jason, Scenic's Expedition Operations Director, organizes the first guest beach landing using their zodiac craft - a crucial step in preparation for the cold waters of Antarctica. But a mechanical issue becomes a problem Jason must solve while guests enjoy their beach day, oblivious to the issues he is facing. En route to Huatulco, Mexico, Scenic Eclipse receives warning of a category 4 hurricane. Jason and Chef Tom secure everything down in anticipation of rough seas. Captain Erwan calls a meeting with the guests to reassure them, before diverting the ship south. As a treat for their final day in Mexico, Cristhian organizes an onboard Mexican fiesta for guests. Amy sources decorations in Huatulco, while Cristhian and Head Bartender Brendon visit a local agave plantation to source world-class mezcal. Meanwhile, Jason and Captain Erwan strive to attempt the first ever commercial night dive in Huatulco, using Scenic Eclipse's onboard submersible. But before they can dive, they must gain permission from the local authorities which proves to be challenging.

Dishing Up Dreams

Scenic Eclipse arrives in Guatemala where Jason, Scenic's Expedition Operations Director, surprises two guests with their own private excursion to the top of an active volcano. Meanwhile, to minimize waste, Chef Jed must find a solution to an excess in bananas, which results in him joining a guest excursion to a cacao plantation in El Salvador. Employing the knowledge from his field trip and locally sourced ingredients, Jed attempts to impress Chef Tom and guests at Elements Restaurant with his banana-based culinary creation. Finally, the ship arrives at Puntarenas, Costa Rica, where Cruise Director Amy is due to handover to her replacement, newbie Josh. But the journey is fraught with challenges as the local pilot struggles with the strong currents, and once there, Josh's delayed flight leaves Amy waiting for his arrival. In Valparaiso, Chile, Chef Tom loads produce as high winds and seas threaten to delay departure. With Captain Erwan on vacation, Captain Radomir is told by local port authorities that Scenic Eclipse can't leave due to the conditions. Given the delay, new Cruise Director Josh brings forward the Halloween party, with Tom and Jed pulling together Halloween-themed desserts. After a successful event, Captain Radomir is allowed to leave. Scenic Eclipse travels to Puerto Montt, Chile, where guests explore the spectacular Petrouhé Falls. Onboard, VP of Marine Operations Captain James starts the yearly polar audit, an analysis of the discovery yacht to ensure she is fit to enter the extreme waters of Antarctica.In the galley, Tom provides Chef Strawberry with the opportunity of a lifetime... challenging her to create a Filipino inspired menu for her restaurant, Night Market. Tom and members of his team evaluate Strawberry's proposed menu, as she strives to make her fellow chefs, countrymen and family proud.

Journey to the End of the World

In Castro, Chile, Discovery Team Leader Boris leads a series of training drills in preparation for Antarctica. From seasoned crew to new members Kirsty and Simon, the team carry out man overboard drills and zodiac lessons. On the bridge, Captain Radomir and his team successfully lead Scenic Eclipse through the spectacular yet challenging English Narrows, surrounded by the gorgeous Chilean Fjords, before stopping off to visit the isolated Puerto Eden. While guests explore the region, Boris, Jason, and the sub-pilot board a helicopter for a reconnaissance flight, before leading the first ever submersible dive in the fjords. Meanwhile, rookies Kirsty and Simon successfully lead their first guest expeditions, getting up close and personal with a leopard seal and calving glaciers. Scenic Eclipse arrives at Punta Arenas, Chile. Here Director of Food and Beverage Chef Tom and Sous Chef Nikolas head out to a local market, as Tom pushes Nik to create a dish using local octopus for the ship's main restaurant, Elements. Meanwhile, Boris and Captain Radomir set up a surprise glacier visit for guests, working to provide access to all onboard. As Scenic Eclipse sails towards Cape Horn, Georgina assesses any potential navigational issues. Previously, no Scenic Eclipse crew members have been able to set foot on land at Cape Horn... but today, thanks to the discovery yacht's tech and their expertise, both crew and guests get this once in a lifetime opportunity. Finally the yacht arrives in Ushuaia, the town at the end of the word, where Captain Radomir hands over to Captain Erwan. Captain James concludes his polar audit for Antarctica, deeming the ship fit to take on the final frontier.

Deception Island

Captain Erwan is faced with a delayed departure from Ushuaia, Argentina. He must provide a 'wind block' for another ship sailing into port. In the galley, Chef Tom oversees the load of fresh produce he gathered in Ushuaia, checking to ensure they have enough for their entire Antarctica journey. Departure time, Scenic Eclipse heads towards the Drake Passage where its stabilizers are often employed. With conditions surprisingly calm, Cruise Director Josh organizes a yoga class for guests... the first of its kind in the normally rough passage. Jason preps emergency gear kits, while Discovery colleague Simon runs biosecurity on guests' clothing, only to be interrupted by penguins jumping outside of the window. Arriving at Paulet Island, bird expert Pepe sets up a space for guests to see penguins, while others tour the island. Surrounded by icebergs, the discovery yacht makes its way towards Brown Bluff thanks to its Polar Class 6 rating which allows comfortable navigation through Antarctic waters. Discovery member Jennifer heads out to the first landing on the Antarctic continent, before guiding guests on a life changing expedition. The following day, the weather changes. Kayaking and paddleboarding are postponed as the team pivots to focus on new potential landings. Jason jumps in the zodiac to make sure the team on the beach are okay with the changing weather. As Scenic Eclipse sails by Deception Island, guests on deck 5 take in the breath-taking scenery, while inside the ship Tom delivers on his commitment to sustainability, creating a special dish for the fine dining French restaurant, Lumière.

New Beginnings

After a 5am recce flight to survey the area for the day's guest experience, Jason plans a surprise for two special guests. Discovery Team guides Helena and John lead a reconnaissance mission up a mountain on Danco Island to create a hiking trail for guests clear of any potentially dangerous deep open cracks known as crevasses. As some guests kayak through majestical surrounds, Chef Tom and Chef Jed treat all to a banquet of spectacular cookies. Jason fulfills his promise to take one lucky couple on a private tour of the bay, while Josh works quickly to set up a special surprise for their return. Meanwhile, with guests whale watching, Chef Tom challenges Brendon to create an Antarctica-themed cocktail. Brendon enlists the help of Jason to retrieve 10,000 year old ice before unveiling the drink to guests. With the discovery yacht's journey coming to an end, Captain Erwan and Georgina navigate the Lemaire Channel. Their skillsets and the ship's azipods come into full effect during this navigational feat. Guests' then paddleboard in the most spectacular of locations, while Chef Tom works on his Christmas surprise for guests... a model of Scenic Eclipse made of gingerbread. Taking a moment by himself on a zodiac, Jason reflects on Antarctica and the cruise season, before thrill-seeking guests and crew members partake in an Antarctic tradition... the 'polar plunge,' jumping into the ice-cold waters. As the ship heads back to Ushuaia, Argentina, the Captain bids farewell before himself, Jason, and Tom meet on deck 5 to conclude the trip and to introduce Scenic Eclipse II... the new discovery yacht they will be moving onto once it's complete in April, 2023.
