Episode 1
It's the eve of 1970, the dawn of a new decade, and Joan Millar is now a qualified doctor at Kings Cross Hospital. She's working hard to prove herself, but the appearance of a mysterious pregnant girl and the return of Dr. Patrick McNaughton threaten to throw her career off track. Viv's estranged mother tries to take control of her life. Annie learns a harsh lesson as a single mother in 1970s Kings Cross.
Episode 2
After Gail's death, Joan is doubting her abilities as a doctor. This doubt is compounded when Viv, who is already frightened and wary of her mother, goes into labour and rejects Joan, asking for another doctor to attend her baby's birth. Viv finds an unlikely source of support in Matron as her labour drags on through the night. Shirley refuses to allow herself a moment to mourn when she receives some shattering news.
Episode 3
Patricia refuses to sign adoption papers for her unborn baby, with tragic results. Driven by the guilt she feels over Gail's death, Joan gets a step closer to finding a family for Gail's orphaned baby. Matron's world is rocked when her biological son is released from prison. Martha is swept off her feet by an admirer.
Episode 4
The time has finally come for Patty and Viv to leave Stanton House, but their futures could hardly appear more different. Shirley is tempted by an offer from McNaughton and Joan finds herself suddenly finds herself in the middle of a violent custody battle over Gail's baby. Patricia faces a crisis when she travels to Melbourne to marry her Prince Charming. Martha is obsessed with seeing Queen Elizabeth during the 1970 royal tour.
Episode 5
Chris volunteers to babysit Annie's baby Deanna while she applies for a job after all girls declined, but when offered a bookie job looses it out of sight long enough to go missing and be brought to the precinct, reason to challenge her maternal custody. Jim is nearly disqualified by missing the interview to challenge Greg's custody claim, being beaten unconscious by his goons, but is found by Joan, who patches up is face and arranges an extension. VIvian starts working as orderly. Dr. Patrick McNaughton's soon-ex finds his mistress half-naked and warns her.
Episode 6
On ANZAC day, the interns get graded. Nervous George is deliberated but quasi-ordered to stop seeing aboriginal Martha. Joan reschedules so she can wed James just in time to swing his son's adoption. Chris has improbably luck as coin toss 'spinner' but end u dragged outside and beaten badly by a brutes bunch who steal his winnings. Greg offers matron any price for his grandson, which tempts her enough to resort to blackmail now the hospital board plans to abolish the unmarried mothers facility.
Episode 7
Martha's reunion with her birth mother doesn't go the way she always dreamt it would. Joan and Jim are driven apart by Gregory's attempt to gain custody of his grandson and Annie discovers she's pregnant to Chris, making Matron the grandmother of her unborn child. With: Andy Ryan as Simon Bowditch, Lincoln Younes as Chris Vesty, Marshall Napier as Gregory, Leah Purcell as Carla.
Episode 8
Joan is forced to find a way to save Jim after Gregory's efforts to gain custody of his grandson become more extreme. Annie decides she can't give birth to a baby which would forever bind her to Matron and takes matters into her own hands. Matron has to choose between saving Stanton House and the life of her unborn grandson, and the former Stanton House girls rally around Patty and help her as she starts her own business. McNaughton makes fateful decision that has a drastic impact on Joan and Jim's future.
