In the mountainous jungle of Colombia's Sierra Nevada , Albert joins Santiago Giraldo, the archaeology professor in charge of the continuous excavation of Ciudad Perdida, a Precolumbian lost city at the heart of the conquistadors' El Dorado legend. The Tairona people carved a city of terraces, in a clever water management scheme to cope with excessive precipitation, on a mountain which overlooks the area but remained hidden for at least four centuries, till its discovery in 1989. At housed some 2500 people, 10000 more in surrounding farm villages, but all is overgrown after abandonment due to Spanish plunder and European diseases, as they had great golden jewelry, well actually ingenuously gild-plated alloys of mostly copper and silver. Albert's LIDAR drones map the while area, showing numerous paths and at least one other city, on the road to the culture's coastal fishermen villages, while only a forest tribe claims to be their descendants, who believe the gold rush destroyed both culture and environment.
