Clark Kent comes to Metropolis looking for a job at the Daily Planet. Perry White first dismisses him as he has no experience. He later goes out to get a story about a theater being torn down which convinces White to accept him because he has initiative. Lois Lane is intent on uncovering a plan to sabotage a mission to save the space station Prometheus. White teams Lois up with the rookie Clark due to all the experienced reporters being unavailable. Meanwhile, Clark is frustrated that he cannot use his powers to help others without exposing himself and jeopardizing his chance at leading a normal life. He consults his mother, Martha Kent, and the two come up with the Superman costume. The wealthy Lex Luthor announces plans for a space station to replace Prometheus.

The Daily Planet is raided by people claiming to be from the US government. Lois and Clark are immediately their first targets, as both are connected with Superman. They are interviewed, their notes and computers seized. As it turns out, these men are not who they say at all, their search warrants being fake, but from a secret government branch investigating aliens. Lois and Clark are determined to get to the bottom of this, but for different reasons. This is the chance for Clark to find out where he came from and who he really is.

Everyone is after Superman. Lex Luthor wants to know how strong and fast he is. He designs various tests for Superman, including having people jump off buildings. Lois is infatuated with the man in tights and is determine to find out as much as she can about him. After having had a story stolen from him, Clark decides to get even with her by sending Lois out on a wild goose chase for Superman's spaceship.

Superman becomes a celebrity in Metropolis and elsewhere in the country. T-shirts, pajamas, baseball caps and other items bearing his logo are on sale everywhere. Clark is overwhelmed by all this and isn't sure that this is what he wants. At the same time, a invisible man appears in the city. At first, he is a Robin Hood-like figure, stealing from the rich and giving the loot to the poor. Later on, however, more serious crimes are reportedly committed by invisible people. The original invisible man teams up with Lois and Clark to catch the bad guys.

Lois and Clark are assigned to cover a large boxing match in the city and find that several of the fighters seem stronger than the average mortal man. They begin to investigate only to have a dear family friend of Lois' killed for knowing too much and then discover that the man behind it all is Lois's estranged father, Dr. Sam Lane a legend in the world of sports medicine.

When one of the children is temporary under Lois's supervision, she learns that there is something sinister going on at the school.

While on the story, they experience what it is like to live with someone else.

An asteroid is headed for earth and it becomes Superman's mission to stop the impending disaster. He flies into space and intercepts the asteroid at high speed to destroy it. This attempt is only partially successful, and worse Superman seems to be missing and Clark is found with amnesia.

During an interview with an eccentric scientist, Lois unwittingly learns of a great conspiracy to destroy the environment and becomes a witness to her interviewee's murder. Once her story is published, she becomes the target that must be eliminated at all cost. Lois and Clark must race against time to unearth the conspiracy while evading the assassin who has been ordered to kill Lois.

What he does have is a quite different set of moral codes, taught to him by an old adversary of Superman's who means to use the young look-alike to end Superman's career permanently.

The criminals want to plunder the secret vault of Prohibition era racketeer Dragonetti, and they'll do it thanks to a set of old blueprints and the information provided by their mysterious boss. Superman risks nuclear catastrophe if he attempts to intervene!

Lex proposes to a surprised Lois. This in turn also prompts Clark to confess his love for her. Lois on the other hand confronts Superman about her love for him. Someone detonates a bomb at the Daily Planet forcing the paper to its knees, Perry White to early retirement, Jimmy to unemployment, Jack to jail and Lois into the arms of Lex Luthor.
