After his father's death, André leaves his job in communication to become a comedian, joined by his friend Christian, just back from Montreal. It's a shaky start. The pair only avoid disaster during their first show thanks to Luc, a local star.

Christian moved in with André, much to Amélie's chagrin, who would like to get rid of this bulky roommate. Lamont, their new agent, organizes an amateur party in his bar to allow the trio to make themselves known. But first, we'll have to find a stage name.

Lamont wins a contract for the Newbies: the first part of the duo Dominic and Martin for the end of season show in a campsite. A real opportunity to work with confirmed comedians. Except that André had promised Amélie a romantic weekend.

After a show, the former theater teacher of the trio comes to congratulate them. A reunion cut short: she dies of a heart attack in front of them. Luc and André go to the funeral together. Christian makes the way on his side. On the way, he picks up a hitchhiker who turns out to be more than suspicious.

The Newbies win a prize at a comedy festival sponsored by Philippe Laprise. The latter is accompanied by a representative of the Michel Lévesque agency: Karine, Christian's ex, who claims to only know her professionally. To please Philippe, Lamont is organizing an ice fishing trip.

The Newbies are going to do an improvisation show with Laurent Paquin in Edmundston. In the morning, Ann-Julie breaks up with Christian after finding compromising messages from Karine. André discovers that Amélie is no longer taking the pill and gets annoyed by noting that everyone is hiding things from him.

The secret: The Newbies attend a workshop on stage presence run by Valérie Blais. It quickly turns into a therapy session when she asks them to reveal a secret that the other two are unaware of. Christian confesses to auditioning for the programme set to replace Luc's programme.

Amélie gave André a year to become a comedian and there's only a month left. The Newbies need an idea to get themselves going again. The trio eventually decide to do a comedy act in English and line up an interview with a journalist from an English-speaking newspaper.

It's the chance they've been waiting for. The Newbies are in Montreal to take part in Zoofest. But it quickly turns into a nightmare thanks to Michel Lévesque, who still wants revenge on Christian and who uses his fame to try and ruin their big moment in Quebec.
