Parisian lawyer Idriss Toma obtains the dismissal of plaintiffs suffering from cancer who are suing their employer, a major paint producer. He is shot in his office by Carl Roussel, the husband of one of the victims, who has just died. The doctors succeed in extracting the three bullets, except for a shrapnel lodged in his brain: they only give the lawyer one year to live. Determined to correct his past mistakes, Idriss Toma returns to his city of Lille and joins forces with a committed lawyer and a former member of the bar to defend the weak.
