Laverne, Shirley, Frank and Edna travel to NY to visit Laverne's grandmother and attend the annual neighborhood Italian Festival. Mrs. DeFazio is a very critical woman who constantly picks on her son, Frank. Two surprise visitors show up; Mrs. DeFazio likes them and she feeds them like family. But, Mrs. DeFazio makes her son feel like he cannot do anything right and he yearns to make his mother proud. A contest at the Festival may give him his big chance.

Laverne expects her father to appreciate the solidarity, but he tells her to show her grandmother some respect. With family, especially one from the old country, love is often expressed at multiple decibel level.
