Episode 1
The first heat of season 4 features 8 invited artists producing a landscape of the ruins of Fountains Abbey, while 50 other artists vie for a wild card by painting it from a different angle. The judges will pick a winner to advance.
Episode 2
The second heat of season 4 features 8 invited artists producing a landscape of Viking Bay, while 50 other artists vie for a wild card by capturing the nearby and more exposed harbour. The judges will select a winner and a wild card.
Episode 3
The third heat of season 4 features 8 invited artists producing a landscape of the Loch Fyne with challenging weather, while 50 other artists vie for a wild card by painting from a different angle. The winner advances to the semi-final.
Episode 4
The fourth heat of season 4 features 8 invited artists producing a landscape of the Studley Royal Water Garden, while 50 other artists vie for a wild card by painting it from a different angle. The judges will pick a winner to advance.
Episode 5
The fifth heat of season 4 features 8 invited artists producing a landscape of the Broadstairs Beach, while 50 other artists vie for a wild card by painting it from a different angle. The judges will pick a winner to advance and wild card.
Episode 6
The sixth heat of season 4 features 8 invited artists producing a landscape of the Inveraray Castle, while 50 other artists vie for a wild card by painting a different view on the grounds. The judges will select a winner and a wild card..
Episode 7
The fourth season semi-final features the seven heat winners and a single wild card selected from all the episodes of the season, their task is a landscape of Felixstowe Docks. From these competitors the judges will select three finalists.

Episode 8
The fourth season final features the three finalists producing a landscape from the Greenwich Observatory, they are also each given a commission to paint a different landscape with a striking landmark. The prize is a £10,000 commission.
Episode 9
The winner of the season four of Landscape Artist of the Year undertakes a £10,000 commission from the Imperial War Museum to create a painting of Kosturino in present day Macedonia to commemorate the centenary of the 1918 Armistice.
