Episode 1

Derwentwater

The first heat of series eleven features eight invited artists capturing the Derwentwater in the Lake District, while 50 other artists vie for a wild card nearby. The judges will pick a winner to advance to the semi-final and a wild card.

Dover Port

The eight invited artists are set up above the busy Port of Dover for a chance to qualify for the semi final. While another 50 artists vie for a wild card below.

Skiddaw Mountain

The artists are set up in Keswick looking out on Skiddaw Mountain in the Lake District, striving to impress the judges and advance to the semifinal.

HMS Wellington

The artists are in London looking out on the Thames and the surroundings from the deck of HMS Wellington a Grimsby-class sloop, formerly of the Royal Navy. The judges will choose a winner to advance to the semifinal and a wildcard.

Dover Castle

Both the eight invited artists and the fifty wildcards are looking out across a wooded valley to the 11th Century Dover Castle in Kent, with hopes of creating works that will impress the judges to move them forward in the competition.

Semi-Final: Ouse Valley Viaduct

The eight semi-finalists are tasked with capturing the Oust Valley Viaduct in Sussex an ornate and elegant brick structure, only three will advance to the final for a chance win the £10,000 commission for the National Gallery of Ireland

Final - The Falkirk Wheel

The three finalists are in Scotland capturing the Falkirk Wheel a rotating boat lift, they also get a commission from the judges. The winner gets a £10,000 commission to paint Croagh Patrick in Ireland, for the National Gallery of Ireland.

Winner's Film

Kim Day, Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year for Series 11 journeys to County Mayo in Ireland to research and prepare for her commissioned painting of Croagh Patrick which will be hung in the National Gallery of Ireland.
