Spanish university graduate Álex Ventura, first in his class and at diplomacy exam, starts his career as diplomatic adviser to the Spanish Minister of Culture Enrique Moliner, only to be told by the permanent secretary there are no diplomatic assignments, so he's charged with menial correspondence and co-hosting receptions. By proving his skill as translator, he finally catches the minister's eye. When TV reports a major treasure in a Spanish galleon discovered in Andalusian waters by rich Frank Wild's super well-equipped team, heritage-obsessed official Lucía Vallarta seeks contact through him and alerts the press, so the minster must at least pretend to care. Fearing duly the red tape takes longer then a US court requires to rule in Wild's favor irrevocably, volunteer Alex and she start a mission to find out everything on site, if they can locate it.

In 1804, Spanish galleon La Fortuna's captain was ordered by the general to take command of the very sick admiral's flag ship, hence saw his family aboard drown as it was bombed and sank after the general's refusal to follow a British squadron to port and have their precious cargo impounded, not aware of a declaration of war. Today, even the public servants Alejandro got to help researching the admiralty library isn't getting anywhere. Jonas Pierce offers his help to sue, but the politicians in the committee prefer an easy financial settlement, which Atlantis boss Jonas Pierce is prepared to offer, against his team. Alejandro is scared off by a mystery woman demonstrating she can abduct him in a limousine by surprise, yet decides last night to wake up the minister and counsel a daring lawsuit, which he embraces like Lucia.

The search for La Fortuna looks hopeless again as the research in archives and Coast Guard data prove inconclusive. The minster fears the sack when summoned by the PM, but it's just a personal intervention by the US ambassador, which rekindles his resolve. He has a military helicopter fly the team aboard a navy ship, which now even summons Frank Wild's ship to stop for search, but he orders them to bluff their way out by steaming straight ahead out of territorial waters. Nevertheless, Wild considers offering a payoff as his trail has been convincingly constructed when one reads the data smartly, and Horacio Valverde, who finds his home ransacked, finally gets his sister to help photographing documents in Gibraltar at her job. In Atlanta court, the parties agree to handing over to Jonas a partial inventory -mere 20 pieces, handpicked by Frank- of the archaeological finds, as Wild claims a full one would take forever. Alejandro meanwhile invited Lucia to his apartment for supper, even misconstrued a romantic interest, which she rudely laughs away.

Episode 4

Alex, Lucia and Jonas make their case in the federal court in Atlanta. They prove Spain has a legitimate interest as the ships were on formal mission for the crown, countering Frank Wild's claim the people aboard have many Anglo-Saxon descendants, one Britton however contacts Alex to plead the Spanish historical interest as his ancestor, the Spanish captain resettled in England, would have wanted. Brilliant research proves Wild's deceit attempt by picking items from the findings inventory, which is superfluous thanks to the FAA-mandatory cargo manifesto, given captured canon markings, so brilliantly even Frank Wild's teen daughter turns against him, feeling manipulated. Over there, Alex and Lucia finally make love, but back home he bitterly finds her aloof again. Alex also speculates which dark forces are acting first against, now for his case.

Episode 5

Alex returns triumphant to Madrid after a favorable US federal court ruling, but the celebratory mood may prove premature while he's sent back to the US to personally oversee (clueless how, but given a useful embassy assistant) the actual repatriation of the artifacts. Indeed, while the minister expects to loose his portfolio after the upcoming elections, Jonas reports the verdict may be useless as Frank Wild's political friends plot to exploit the lack of notoriety of the matter to have the law changed, so such foreign claims can be refused. Luckily they stumble upon proof of illegal machination and force the Spanish ambassador to make the furious key US senator abandon the plan.
Episode 6

Now the US federal court has awarded the La Fortuna treasure to the Spanish state, Alex and his team are sent back there to physically bring it home, a logistical and security challenge they are clueless about. A bitter Frank Wild, deserted by his teen daughter, makes sure nothing is easy: collecting the numerous pieces from his state of the art conditioned storage facility, they even have to pay for the plastic containers. Lucia resumes her affair with Alejandro, Jonas joins them. They hire a renegade band of truckers for a wild ride with danger on their tail all the way to the airport. Yet on the military airport in Spain, the reception is cold, possibly orchestrated by the mystery authority, which turns up again.
