Following the death of her mother Leila takes a job at Azul's café and a lodger in the form of trainee actor Jonty. She also enters an online video game Agora as fearless warrior Shadowfax. Here she meets the Red Pill group - Adrian, Tippi, Jocasta, Carmen, Force and Calumny - as well as her protagonist Mania. Then, to her surprise Mania turns up at the café as a girl called Tess, who invites her to a club and back to her room, where, using Mania's name, she enters the game and finds Calumny in some distress.

Make It Stop

After failing to get rent from Jonty Leila visits Tess, who admits to being unstable and with her own money problems so Leila, resolving to help, moves her into her house. Re-entering the game Leila is disturbed to find that Calumny is no longer a player and is invited to take his place in the Red Pill group by Arian, who also introduces her to Denier, another gang member. Back in the real world Leila discovers the sinister reason for Calumny leaving the game and Adrian's part in it.

After Tess bins her medication and dismisses her counsellor Leila, entering the game, learns from Tippi that Tess - as Mania - had attempted suicide and sees Adrian as her only hope. Suspecting Adrian to have caused Calumny's death and fearful of his influence on Denier - a young boy called Ben, in a children's home - Leila tries to find Adrian's true identity but fails. She seeks out Ben to warn him but is too late to prevent something terrible happening. Jonty receives an anonymous call asking him to spy on Leila whilst Ruth Palmer, the game's creator, is released from prison after being accused of killing her husband and co-creator.

Friends Let Us Down

When Tess disappears Leila searches for her, meeting the adoptive family and ailing father she abandoned. Learning of Ben's fate she hits on a means of defeating Adrian, who has sent Kyle - Force in the game - on a murderous mission and attempted to turn Tess against her. A visit to Ruth Palmer, who has eschewed the game, is unproductive but she is horrified to learn of Jonty's duplicity before making another shocking discovery.

The Witch is Coming

Tess meets Tomiko - Tippi in the game - who leads her to a beautiful villa by the sea and asks her to destroy her possessions. Kyle takes Leila to rescue her but Leila is wary of his motive and escapes after attacking him, arriving at the villa alone. However Tess is totally under the influence of Tomiko and refuses to leave. Logging into her computer Leila sees footage of Adrian as a lonely little boy receiving his first game before she sets out to save Tess from herself.
Episode 6
You Can Never Go Home

Tess sees the light and returns to London to find Leila missing and Jonty admitting that he was duped into spying on her. Tess approaches Ruth Palmer, who denies being Adrian's mother whilst Leila finds herself the prisoner of Adrian, who has framed her for the gamers' deaths. She escapes and meets with Tess and Jonty, using her computer skills to exonerate herself and defeat Adrian - hopefully.
