Returning the camera to Dr. Adams's office, Allie learns that the woman in the photo is her father's nurse. Allie is devastated that her father, of all people, would have an affair. He tries to explain away the photo... but ends up confessing all and asks Allie's help in ending it. Kate -- in "interfering mode" -- locks Allie in the closet to give Ed the opportunity to explain himself to Allie. They reconcile and Allie, in a show of grace, decides to send Charles and Claire a housewarming gift. When Kate asks "Why?" Allie responds, "Well, I'm not as mad at him as I was before. If a man like my father can have an affair, a man like Charles is destined to."
Episode 6
Mon, Nov 4, 198530 mins
It's Emma's birthday and her father is stuck down in Mexico doing a movie. In his late-night phone call to her, he says that he has sent a special gift to her. Allie plans a "birthday fiesta" when the package arrives and the family speculates that it could be some hand-tooled leather or even "an ancient Aztec treasure." As Emma opens the package and pulls out a rather ...interesting statue, Allie opines, "...Or an ancient Aztec Cabbage Patch Doll." Encouragingly, Kate says, "I'll bet it's one-of-a-kind," as Allie counters with "There couldn't be two of them!" A knock on the door reveals Samantha Ashley, an art gallery owner who claims that Emma's statue was miss-sent and the "small clay figure of a child" actually belongs to her [Samantha]. Emma insists she wants to clear it up with her dad before exchanging the statues. Samantha Ashley leaves with, "Or... you hear from my lawyer." Kate: Where does she get those claws done? Allie: There's probably a little beauty parlor next to the ugly statue store. [realizes what she's said] Sorry, Em. Emma: It's OK. I just wish I knew *which* ugly statue was mine! The family is soon visited by Mr. Chandler, an art dealer who offers Emma $500 for the statue, which she refuses because the statue was a gift from her dad. Emma receives a telegram from her father saying he had to check out of his hotel when "a biker" came looking for the statue. Mr. Chandler tells them that the biker is known as "The Annihilator" and they may find themselves better off without the statue. Allie sends Emma and Jenny out to the neighbors to borrow some art books to see if they can determine the origin of the statue. They rush back in, shouting that a biker "with a razor blade for an earring" just pulled up. "THE ANNIHILATOR!" Act II opens with the family cowering in fear as The Annihilator pounds on the door. Getting no answer, he finally goes away as Allie says "I'm calling the police." Detective Johnson arrives and tells them the statue is part of a stolen art operation... and that Chandler and Ashley are in cahoots together, fencing stolen art through Ashley's gallery. The detective determines that Emma's statue is stolen and convinces her -- and Kate -- to help the police by "selling" the statue to Mr. Chandler. The sting, set in Ashley's gallery, reveals that the whole set-up is... a set-up. Even Allie, who called "the police" is involves and all the players in the scenario are friends of Max's -- "We've been out of work together for years." -- and Emma learns without a doubt that her father "is parades and skyrockets."
