In Seattle, the efficient resident in cardiology, Olivia "Liv" Moore, is in love with her fiancé, Major Lilywhite. When a colleague invites her to a party on a boat, Major convinces her to go; however, there is a zombie outbreak, and Liv is scratched by an infected man. Turning into a zombie, she calls off her engagement with Major and transfers her residence to a morgue since she needs to feed on brains. Soon her chief, Coroner Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, discovers her secret. Liv gets visions from the brains she eats and also acquires the abilities of the dead person. When she eats the corpse brain of a young Jane Doe, Liv discovers she was murdered and teams up with rookie Police Detective Clive Babineaux, who believes she is psychic.

After ingesting the brain of an Asian man, Liv drags Ravi to look into her worry that Clive may be a dirty cop, who refuses their help with a case linked to a Chinatown video store, so she perilously confronts the triad suspected of crimes related to Clive's last former Vice section case. While brain catering baron Blaine DeBeers enjoys a life of luxury with perks, he deals the hard way with two henchmen planning to set up their own firm to challenge his monopoly.

Holly was part of a sponsored daredevil program, like hot, equally promiscuous rock singer/guitarist Lowell Tracey, whom Ravi and Liv recognize as a second 'good zombie', who eagerly flirts with the flattered yet reluctant fellow zombie. Desperate that Missing Persons ignores his worries about missing halfway house knaves, Major calls by overworked, unqualified Clive.

Virtual Reality Bites

Ravi is delighted to offer his gamer skills to help find the murderer of a hacker, whose brain renders Liv agoraphobic, among the champions of a video role play he excels in. Blain shows no mercy for the zombie client with benefits who killed and cannibalized one of his delivery boys, Liv's mother discovers his delicatessen shop, the job vacancy and volunteers her son. Major's search for his missing halfway house charges points to dangerous Blaine.

Ravi has good hope to develop a cure by testing mixtures on rats, but the one turned zombie killer escapes, cannibalizes the rest and bites him. Lowell shows great patience with Liv's ranting, but she shivers when she sees Blaine arrive with a brain delivery.

Lowell, realizing through lover Liv that Blaine has been feeding him murdered human brains, repents convincingly and agrees to help her set up the murderer for execution, but when she backs out as sniper attempts to stab. The team solves the murder by live monition during a paintball game of a retired sniper in the presence of his big brother program charge, whose mental trouble is enhanced by this trauma. Ravi's cure search proves excruciating as his metal glove fails to prevent a test rat's zombie bite. Major perseveres in his illegal search for the Candy Man, focusing on Blaine's deliveryman Julien Dupont and finding a gym link.

Starved and struck down by joyriding teens who, fearing trouble, decide to bury him in the woods, he frees himself and starts killing them off. Liv ingests the first victim's brain to help the investigation. Ravi, happy with Major back home, is also glad that he's without a zombie infection and on the right track for a cure (although his dope stash for further rat experiments runs out). Major, knowing zombies exist, shows Liv proof that Blaine's delicatessen delivers brains. As she consults Ravi about telling Major her secret, Major, posing as health inspector to suss out the Meat Cute butcher shop, gets recognized by henchman Julien and forcibly detained. While secured in back, Major overhears Blaine hiring Evan, Liv's brother, as their new delivery driver.
