Tony Stark's facilities are attacked in plain daylight by Whirlwind and Dreadknight stealing a particularly shiny microchip for the Mandarin. In his headquarters, the Mandarin cruelly punishes one of his henchmen because of a minor mistake. One year passes and Admiral Younger contacts our heroes about the missing submarine that could now be in the seas of Scottland. Younger prevents them that its contents could have the power to finish life on Earth.

Back at their headquarters, Spider-Woman and Wanda (Scarlet Witch) manage to open the box which unveils the story of Arnold Brock, an archaeologist in the deserts of Central Asia who found in a cave the means to become the Mandarin. The box tells the story of how he, by accident or fate, enter the old cave with secrets of an old alien space-ship maybe hidden by eons. He found there some sort of color crystals which healed his broken arm and gave him strength and power gems he combines with the rings of his most probably dead fiancee, Ilona, to transform them into power-rings.
