In the summer of 1977, Jonah Heidelbaum's grandmother (a holocaust survivor) is murdered in her own living room. In an attempt to find her killer, Jonah is approached by Meyer Offerman, an old friend of his grandmother's, who reveals to Jonah that America has been infiltrated at all levels by renegade Nazis and it was they who were responsible for her death.

And on the second day, God created The Hunters, who at the behest of Meyer brought Jonah into their tribe. The Hunters were wroth, "Nay!" They cried, "The Hunt is no place for a child!" But Jonah petitioned his worth and uncovered the dark hymns of a new enemy.

Hark! A wedding song rang out to unite The Hunters in a time of discord. "The Hunt is not only about death," Meyer cried unto Jonah, "It is about life!" But their mirth was tempered by an untimely strike and suspicions of a Judas among them. Seeking the origins of Evil, Millie offered up a sacrifice.

But lo! The date foretold by evil prophecy came upon them. The Hunters were tormented by wicked ghosts of times past as the day waned and Darkness prepared to strike. Millie forsaketh the means of justice to hasten the path toward judgment.

And there was a thick darkness in all the land. As The Hunters wallowed in the valley of the shadow of death, they turned to the stars to point them on their path. Still, darkness trespassed upon the heart of Jonah, which did tempt him toward sin; and the shepherd Meyer petitioned Millie to join their flock.

As a terrible plague loomed over the land and did portend to devour its people, The Hunters waged a great battle to prevent it. Upon the threshold of righteousness, Millie endured a loathsome betrayal and sought to deliver Jonah from vengeance and corruption.

Simpson flees to Europe. Leich kills his Jewish lawyer in prison to rally antisemitic prisoners to his cause. Morris reports the factory incident to her superiors, who warn her to keep quiet about it. A Jewish congresswoman later asks her to lead a task force of Nazi hunters. Offerman is rescued from the water by Harriet, and he later expresses disappointment in Jonah for not killing Leich. Jonah discovers Ruth's file on Zuchs and realizes she had found him working as a surgeon before she died, and he kidnaps the man. Offerman kills him, but Jonah realizes he did not recite the Kaddish as Ruth's notes said he would when he planned to kill Zuchs, and concludes that he actually is Zuchs. Zuchs confesses and then explains he killed the real Offerman to escape persecution after the liberation of Auschwitz. He took his identity, undergoing plastic surgery from the surgeon he killed, committed fully to the Jewish faith, and doing penance for his evils by forming the Hunters with Ruth. Jonah kills him with a knife belonging to Ruth. Harriet suggests the Hunters move to Europe to hunt the Nazis who escaped under Die Spinne. Joe is kidnapped and taken to Argentina, where the surviving Colonel, revealed to be Eva Braun, lives with Adolf Hitler.
