Hubert ohne Staller Season 4 Episodes

16 Episodes 2015 - 2015

Episode 1

Fleischeslust

47 mins

In a forest parking lot, Hubert and Staller discover a refrigerated truck belonging to the Semmling butcher shop. It's strange that the truck appears to have been parked there for some time. And indeed, a gruesome sight is revealed to the police in the cold storage room: The driver, Stefan Schneider, is sitting among the meat products - frozen to death in an undignified manner. And it's immediately clear: It was murder. The thermostat had been adjusted and the door handle tampered with. Next to the dead man, Hubert and Staller discover the letter "M" clearly carved into the ice. Was Schneider trying to use his last ounce of strength to leave a clue to his murderer? Or is the perpetrator perhaps even leading them down a false trail? The police begin their investigation at the butcher shop. Everyone there is shocked by the employee's death; owners Annemarie and Martin Semmling had already missed Schneider. Markus Walter, who works as a driver for the Semmlings, is also dismayed. He claims to be the murder victim's best friend. And indeed, Hubert and Staller discover that the two often spent their breaks in the forest parking lot. But something makes the police suspicious: Is Markus Walter truly trustworthy? After all, the "M" in his first name matches the mark in the ice. But what motive would Walter have for the crime? When Hubert and Staller investigate the butcher shop's staff in more detail, they discover that the dead man's girlfriend also works for the Semmlings. And what's more, Markus Walter is her ex-boyfriend. Hubert and Staller increasingly doubt the supposedly good male friendship. Did Markus Walter kill his "best friend" out of jealousy?

Schlaflos in Wolfratshausen

48 mins

A dark day for the police: Two officers from Tölz drove off the road in their car and were seriously injured. When Hubert and Staller arrived at the scene, they were only able to rescue one of the two officers, who was dead. Martin Lutz, the second officer, fortunately escaped with a few scratches. To Hubert and Staller's surprise, a third man was also in the car - in handcuffs. He was seriously injured and unconscious. According to Martin Lutz, the man is the long-wanted felon Armin Bischof, who had accidentally fallen into the hands of the Tölz police while robbing a jewelry store. The two officers were on their way to Munich, where they were supposed to transport Bischof. However, during the journey, he managed to free himself from his handcuffs and attacked the driver. When the seriously injured Bischof was taken to the hospital, Police Sergeant Girwidz assigned Hubert and Staller to guard him in the hospital. Girwidz personally takes care of his injured colleague Lutz and brings him to the station. There, he assigns his colleague Sonja Wirth to book Lutz a hotel and accompany him there. But Sonja is increasingly irritated by the behavior of her colleague from Tölz: Something seems to be wrong with Martin Lutz. When Dr. Anja Licht makes another strange discovery during the autopsy of the injured police officer, a race against time begins for Girwidz's police team.

Mord im Möbelland

46 mins

When Hubert and Staller catch a shoplifter red-handed at the Niederhöfer furniture store, they quickly uncover a far more serious crime: Managing Director Bruno Niederhöfer is found dead in his office. And it quickly becomes clear: An insider was at work. The surveillance camera recordings have disappeared without a trace. Hubert and Staller are convinced that the perpetrator is a member of the staff. And there are quite a few of them in this large company. Staller's exhausting search for the suspect is made a little easier, however, as he repeatedly receives mysterious love messages. First, Corinna Pschorer, Niederhöfer's deputy, increasingly comes under suspicion of murder. If she wanted to climb to the top of the career ladder, she would have every reason to eliminate her boss. When Hubert and Staller discover that the victim was having an affair, his widow, Anna Niederhöfer, also comes under the investigators' scrutiny: Did she kill her husband out of jealousy? But the case takes a whole new turn when the clumsy colleague Riedl is accidentally locked in the furniture store overnight and witnesses a theft. That's when Hubert and Staller realize that the secret love messages have much more to do with the case than they previously suspected.

Episode 4

Der Waschlappen

47 mins

As Hubert and Staller are polishing their patrol car at the car wash, they unexpectedly collide - with a corpse. Anton Lohfink, the owner of the car wash, hanged himself with a tow rope. Hubert and Staller immediately begin their investigation and find Lohfink's suicide note. Initially, everything points to suicide. However, the suicide note is so oddly worded that Staller begins to doubt it was suicide. Even the testimony of his wife, Anna Lohfink, doesn't convince him in the slightest. And indeed, after the autopsy, Staller's suspicions are confirmed: Pathologist Dr. Anja Licht discovers that the victim was first drugged with rat poison and then hanged, which ultimately led to his death. This murder case doesn't suit Police Commissioner Girwidz at all. For one thing, he doesn't want the investigation against Anna Lohfink to become public, as she is in the middle of an election campaign for the position of city councilor. And secondly, he would much rather see Hubert and Staller investigate the thief of his own private car. The two continue their investigation doggedly, but are still completely in the dark. They simply can't prove anything against Lohfink's widow. They only get a hot lead when they track down a former auto mechanic from Lohfink's garage. He reveals to them that there was something wrong both in Lohfink's garage and in his marriage.

Die Radieschen von unten

45 mins

Repeatedly trampled flowerbeds, broken glass, and party debris... When Hubert and Staller meet with allotment gardener Helga Kramer early one morning to assess the latest vandalism incidents at the local allotment site, they find the woman dead in her shed. Everything points to murder. Helga Kramer could have been the victim of the very group of rowdy youths who had previously caused her to spend the entire night as part of a vigilante group in the allotment site. However, association chairman Wilfried Schramm has no kind words for the dead woman, describing the murder victim as opinionated and pedantic. Kramer had meticulously documented even the smallest offenses committed by her fellow gardeners. Thus, Konrad Winter, who allegedly used his shed as a permanent residence without permission, and Gerd Marquardt, who allegedly operates an unregistered trade in vegetables from his greenhouse, quickly become the focus of the investigation. Hubert, who is going through a divorce, also suspects that widower Horst Kramer could no longer cope with his wife's domineering ways and was solving his marital problems in his own way. But Helga Kramer was also naturally at odds with Gül Dogan, who uses her strict father Ilkay Dogan's plot of land for the occasional secret round of Prosecco. When Hubert and Staller discover that Johanna Girwidz, their boss's daughter, is one of the young people who have gone too far in the allotment garden in the past, they get closer to solving the case: A conspicuous boot print in a flowerbed was deliberately left by the murderer to distract attention from himself and thus, literally, pin the crime on someone else. But Hubert and Staller turn the tables: Using high-tech, improvisational talent, and an early St. Nicholas gift, they finally lure the perpetrator out of hiding.

Der kleine Unterschied

47 mins

A day full of surprises for Hubert and Staller. The two police officers are called into town to arrest a drunken and rowdy boy. On the scene, they are astonished to discover that the troublemaker isn't a child at all, but the dwarf millionaire Manuel von Kunkel. As they escort the drunkard back to his villa on Lake Starnberg, the next surprise follows: Kunkel's attractive lodger, Megan, is taking a bubble bath in the bathtub - but she's dead. A tragic accident? That's what it looks like at first, because the hairdryer is drifting through the bathwater. While still on the scene, pathologist Dr. Anja Licht discovers traces of ether in the dead woman's nasal cavity, and it quickly becomes clear: it was murder. While draining the bathwater, Anja Licht and the two investigators make another astonishing discovery: Megan is only a woman up to her waist - the young lady was a ladyboy. For Staller, the case is clear: Millionaire Kunkel killed the beautiful Megan because of unrequited love and faked an accident. He then got wildly drunk in town. But Kunkel stubbornly maintains his innocence: His relationship with Megan was purely platonic, and he knew nothing about her little secret. Finally, the determination of the time of death makes Kunkel's alibi watertight. Megan was murdered while Hubert and Staller were with him in town. Suddenly, a friend of Megan's appears, promising the press exclusive, intimate details about the dead woman's love life. Megan had apparently financed her luxurious lifestyle with wealthy patrons around the lake. Police Commissioner Girwidz fears a scandal in Starnberg's high society. He wants to prevent the insider from providing the press with explosive information at all costs. With Sonja's help, Hubert and Staller lure the woman into a trap and thus acquire an explosive list of names.

Bauernopfer

Nothing works anymore: A runaway herd of cattle is blocking traffic on the country road. Hubert and Staller are called in and get the situation under control. But when they finally drive the animals back to their pasture, they make a gruesome discovery: the body of a man lies in the grass, trampled by the herd of cows. It is that of veterinarian Dr. Reyer, who, at first, appears to have been the victim of a tragic accident at work. However, pathologist Dr. Licht determines the cause of death to be a deliberate blow to the head, with the imprint on the skull not matching the animals' hooves. Hubert and Staller agree that the cattle footprints are clearly intended to mislead and make everything look like an accident. Reyer's colleague, Dr. Isa Wilkens, provides the first suspect and motive: Apparently, there was a heated argument between Dr. Reyer and farmer Anton Scherber, as the doctor wanted to report the farmer for poor hygiene in his stables. As investigators interrogate Scherber, he attempts to flee the precinct. His alibi reveals serious inconsistencies. Scherber, who claims to have been at home at the time of the crime, was demonstrably near the crime scene at the time of the murder. But did Scherber actually kill the doctor out of fear for his livelihood?

Completely out of breath, he has to admit to himself that he urgently needs to work on his stamina and immediately signs up for the "Springer and Springer" fitness studio. Ashamed of his fitness problems in front of his colleague Hubert, Staller conceals his registration at the club - until something terrible happens there of all places: employee Dennis Westermann is murdered. Hubert and Staller immediately begin investigating Westermann's environment. His partner, Mia Sperling, testifies that Westermann had spoken about problems at work before his death. But Joachim Springer, who runs the fitness studio together with his wife Bettina, claims to have known nothing about any difficulties at his company. Pathologist Dr. Anja Licht then informs the two police officers that the murder victim's brother, Boris Westermann, is currently in a coma and fighting for his life. He, too, was in and out of "Springer and Springer" because he had trained there as a bodybuilder. Staller takes advantage of his new club membership and takes a closer look at the studio undercover: He actually finds small bags that look suspiciously like illegal doping substances are circulating in the studio. He no longer rules out the possibility that these illegal activities could have something to do with the murder of Dennis Westermann. When Westermann's brother awakens from his coma and is able to give a statement, studio owner Joachim Springer and bodybuilder Hartmut Klein suddenly become the focus of the police. However, the alibi the two provide for the time of the crime is watertight.

At a model airplane show, the event's patron, Anton Stark, suddenly drops dead. The toy manufacturer was dependent on a pacemaker, and pathologist Dr. Anja Licht initially suspects heart failure. But Stark's widow disagrees. She is firmly convinced that it was murder and that the arms industry was behind it. Hubert and Staller laugh at her conspiracy theory. They don't find Marianne Stark, who is usually only seen drunk, credible. But then Dr. Licht discovers that Anton Stark's pacemaker was tampered with. Hubert and Staller are skeptical: Perhaps there is a grain of truth to the widow's absurd theories? She suddenly presents the police with a USB stick belonging to her husband, which contains complicated technical blueprints. Hubert and Staller begin their investigation and first question Gustav Giebel, Stark's business partner. He explains that it's nothing more than the blueprint for a new model airplane. Hubert and Staller are baffled. It's only during the latest gossip at Sabrina Rattlinger's bakery that the two learn that Anton Stark hasn't made friends everywhere with his toy airplanes.

As a symbol of the close connection between the two distant towns, a precious koi carp is to be presented to the town during the ceremony. But when the celebrations begin, the carp has disappeared. To Hubert and Staller's astonishment, Police Commissioner Girwidz issues a top-priority manhunt for the animal. What Hubert and Staller don't know is that the koi is worth a six-figure sum, something the animal's kidnapper was obviously aware of. He soon contacts them with ransom demands. Girwidz does not want the incident to cast a negative light on the town and his police station. Both the Japanese delegation and Mayor Streubel are outraged by the kidnapping and put enormous pressure on Girwidz to find the animal. Therefore, the police commissioner decides to take responsibility for the embarrassing faux pas themselves and raise the demanded sum. He immediately assigns Hubert and Staller the task of handing over the ransom. But things don't go smoothly: the kidnapper slips away, along with the money - and the fish they bought back turns out to be a cheap duplicate of the valuable koi. So, the case isn't as easy to resolve as they had hoped, and the two police officers begin their investigation. And lo and behold: They discover a hot lead, right in Mayor Streubel's circle.

But the property damage is immediately forgotten, as the police find the responsible construction contractor, Katja Sperlinger, on the golf course - fatally hit by a golf ball. The two investigators are quickly able to rule out a sports accident. This leaves club manager van Bargen with no doubt: the anonymous "anti-golfers" are behind the crime. And when Hubert and Staller identify a slingshot as the murder weapon, their suspicions grow stronger. The protesters had used the slingshots to fire balls onto the course, thus disrupting play. But are the activists truly capable of cold-blooded murder? Hubert and Staller decide to take a closer look at club life. They are astonished to discover that behind the facade of the perfect sports world, something is amiss: Katja Sperlinger also had enemies within the club. The two police sergeants begin to doubt the motives of the "anti-golfers." Were the protesters being used as scapegoats, behind which the perpetrator could cleverly hide?

But the friendly cheering up comes to nothing: A patient jumps from one of the upper floors but survives with serious injuries. Hubert and Staller immediately interview the witnesses on scene. According to their statements, Christian Langer jumped out of the window without any external influence, which is why everything points to the man attempting suicide. Langer's partner, Kerstin Schmiedel, credibly assures the police that she absolutely rules out her friend's attempting suicide. When forensic pathologist Dr. Anja Licht finally finds residues of unapproved drugs in Christian Langer's blood, Hubert and Staller also consider it possible that Christian Langer was the victim of a crime. Were the drugs administered to him without his knowledge? What is the connection between the illegal drugs and the life-threatening fall? But Langer is still in a coma, and when he will regain consciousness and provide investigators with the missing pieces to solve the case remains to be seen. It turns out to be Frank Brauß, a colleague of lifeguard Hans Möller. Hubert and Staller are in the dark, so they promptly send their police colleague Riedl undercover to the water aerobics class to track down the exhibitionist. Das Haus am Moor

45 mins

Hubert and Staller are called to rescue a pitifully screaming cow that has strayed into a nearby moor. But there is no trace of the lost animal. Instead, the police make a gruesome discovery - the body of a young woman. Strangulation marks on her neck immediately suggest a crime. Initial investigations also reveal that the victim did not die in the moor, but was dumped there as a corpse. During the investigation, residues in the victim's shoes are also found, leading to a nearby farm. In addition to an elderly couple, the unpleasant landowner Manfred Weiss and his wife Helmine, who is severely affected by a stroke, their son also lives on the farm with his wife and child. To Hubert and Staller's surprise, Helmine Weiss is heavily incriminating her own husband. On a chalkboard, her only means of communication, she accuses him of murder in front of the police. But can the words of the old and confused woman even be trusted? Then the investigators receive the shocking results of the autopsy: The victim had recently become a mother. Expecting the worst, Hubert and Staller search the dead woman's apartment. But there is absolutely nothing to indicate that the young woman was pregnant and had given birth. The investigators also find no evidence of a partner or the child's father. Even after a conversation with gynecologist Dr. Haider, who also knew nothing about his patient's pregnancy - she hadn't been to see him for over a year, Hubert and Staller remain in the dark. Haider, however, considers it possible that the young woman had a miscarriage or had an abortion outside the legally permitted timeframe. But even the most horrific of all possibilities, namely the possibility that the child was also the victim of a crime, is something Hubert and Staller can no longer rule out. When police colleague Riedl reports his colleague Sonja Wirth missing, everyone fears that she, too, has fallen into the clutches of the murderer.

Ein schmutziges Geschäft

47 mins

When a fisherman discovers a conspicuous oil stain on the Loisach River, Hubert and Staller are tasked with investigating the matter. However, they don't find a broken sewer line, but a body - sunk in the Loisach on weights. The man had clearly died from a knife wound, as his body was covered in puncture wounds. The investigation reveals that the dead man is Tom Rösler, the production manager of the Kutschner textile factory. When the police finally deliver the sad news of his employee's death to the company manager, he reacts in a strikingly matter-of-fact manner. Kutschner cannot provide any information about Rösler's private life, but as an employee, he was reliable and conscientious. During a search of Rösler's apartment, the police discover video footage of a mysterious woman. However, she is not clearly recognizable; only her striking tattoo offers a clue. The neighbor also claims to have seen this woman, but cannot remember her name. At least Staller manages to create a phantom drawing based on his statement. The motive: A dirty business? Colleague Sonja Wirth draws the two investigators' attention to the fact that Kutschner's textile factory was involved in an environmental scandal a year ago and must now comply with strict regulations. Pathologist Dr. Anja Licht also presents her findings: The body was found to have a leech, which is primarily found in polluted waters. The body must therefore have been dumped in a location in the Loisach where these parasites are found. Monika Bösmeier from the Weilheim Water Management Authority, however, cannot explain the presence of leeches anywhere in the Loisach. Her colleague Fritz Brunner had recently presented a report attesting to the excellent water quality of the entire Loisach River, thus exonerating the textile factory. When the investigators confront Fritz Brunner about the leeches, he becomes entangled in excuses. And he only knew the murder victim superficially, as his contact at the textile factory was Kutschner. Hubert and Staller then decided to take a water sample near the factory themselves. Monika Bösmeier even agreed to analyze the sample - with a surprising result: The water quality left much to be desired. Did Brunner falsify his report, and why would he do that?

Now Hubert and Staller have a problem. Their friend Sabrina Rattlinger is suspected of murder, and as the sole heir, she would have a clear motive. But the aunt's bank account is empty, and the house was apparently sold shortly before her death - to Police Commissioner Girwidz through an intermediary. A nasty neighborly dispute? Hubert and Staller investigate the deceased's environment for suspects. Erna Rattlinger had a nasty neighborly dispute with Wolf Braun, but does that make him capable of murder? He had cared for Ms. Rattlinger in a day care service a few months earlier and later even looked after her privately.
