Hubert ohne Staller Season 3 Episodes

16 Episodes 2013 - 2014

Episode 1

Der Tod hat 1000 Stacheln

45 mins

While Staller examines the Rieger family's broken-in mailbox, Hubert observes a car veering off the country road some distance away. The car suddenly stops abruptly, the driver jumps out, flails wildly, and finally collapses in the field. The two police officers can only confirm the death of Peter Herzig, whose body is covered in stings. When Hubert is attacked by a bee while examining the vehicle and the two discover countless dead bees, there is no longer any doubt: a swarm must have taken up residence in Peter Herzig's vehicle. The "killer bees" are a godsend for young journalist Nadine Scholz, and Police Commissioner Girwidz is visibly concerned. Are further attacks to be feared, and should the public be warned? Hubert and Staller should seek expert advice to be on the safe side. They drive to the Wolfratshausen Beekeepers' Association, where a small group of amateur beekeepers, chaired by Karl Rauch and his daughter Tanja, regularly meets and exchanges their experiences. The attack by the supposed killer bees surprises the experts, as bees are extremely peaceful and useful creatures. Hubert immediately loses all sympathy when he defends himself against one of these insects with a well-aimed blow. Staller, on the other hand, begins to take a personal interest in beekeeping - a fact the board member's attractive daughter is not entirely innocent of. Meanwhile, Yazid discovers a living bee and the remains of a honeycomb in the dead man's vehicle. The discovery puzzles Hubert and Staller. The insects couldn't possibly have transported the honeycomb into the car. When they bring the surviving bee to the beekeeper's daughter, she makes an astonishing discovery: It's a queen with clipped wings. Another reason why someone placed the honeycomb and queen in the vehicle. But can a swarm of bees really be used as a murder weapon? Riedl, of all people, who is now investigating the broken mailbox case, stumbles upon a motive for the possible murder of Peter Herzig.

Episode 2

Viel Wind um nichts

45 mins

The field was plowed by a dead man. After a flat tire in an open field on their new company bicycles, Hubert and Staller try to ask a farmer passing by for help - but he's hanging lifeless on his tractor seat. Farmer Ernst Poschinger was shot dead, as was a small dog, which must have also been at the crime scene. Hubert and Staller take on the case and stumble upon a village in turmoil. A new wind farm is to be built, and the project's supporters and opponents are irreconcilably opposed. Because the victim led the protest against the planned wind turbines, Frederic Isensee, the local head of the energy company, becomes the focus of the investigation. He had created a buzz for his project with large donations to local clubs and hadn't shied away from personal intrigue. Even Police Commissioner Girwidz is hoping for his support for an energy-saving competition with which he hopes to establish himself as the head of a "model precinct." Meanwhile, Hubert and Staller witness the brutality of the wind power dispute firsthand at a local inn. At the end, it's all fists flying. In this tumult, they get to know one of the opponents involved better: Toni Rissmeyer, the victim's best friend and a fellow protester. Through him, they learn that the people involved in the wind power dispute are all members of the local shooting club. Therefore, several villagers would be capable of shooting someone off a moving tractor. When Hubert and Staller then visit Frederic Isensee in his hunting lodge, they not only get to see the attractive innkeeper from a completely different perspective, they also come across a rifle that Isensee had previously kept secret from them. Did he want to brutally eliminate his fiercest adversary in the wind power field? Meanwhile, station manager Girwidz is constantly bombarding his employees with new energy-saving ideas, which doesn't exactly make the investigation any easier. Moreover, the owner of the shot dog is keeping the entire station on its toes. She has two other animals that are identical to the one shot. And this finally leads Hubert and Staller to an extraordinary idea to track down the perpetrator.

Auf sanften Pfoten kommt der Tod

"Roses" - that's the last thing the elderly lady Henriette Vester whispers into the ear of her neighbor, Police Commissioner Girwidz. She then succumbs to her severe head injuries. Girwidz is baffled: a single, enigmatic word is unlikely to solve a murder. But the first witnesses are quickly found. Neighbor Franz Josef Schreiber claims that Henriette Vester had a heated argument with her son Mark immediately before her death. Mark's description of the incident, however, immediately exonerates him. Instead, the investigation reveals that Henriette Vester apparently caught a serial burglar in the act and paid for it with her life. Therefore, Hubert and Staller are first tasked with investigating the previous crimes to track down Henriette Vester's murderer. They discover that all of the burglaries were committed while the respective apartment owners were on vacation. A crucial commonality between the victims ultimately suggests that Annemarie Aschbrenner, who runs an animal boarding facility with her son Ferdinand, may have something to do with the crimes. But what's the story behind the ominous word "roses"? And what role does Denise Scharth, Ferdinand Aschbrenner's girlfriend, play? But investigators Hubert and Staller will once again track down the murderer in this literally animal-related case.

Dünnes Eis

Diving instructor Sepp Meyerhofer is suspected of illegal harpooning, so Hubert and Staller decide to pay him a quick visit. But their investigations don't get them very far. Fellow diving instructor Timo Beyer and his students have just pulled a body ashore, which immediately puzzles the police sergeants: The young woman is wearing ice skates - and in the middle of summer, no less. The tragic accident must have occurred in winter. Forensic pathologist Dr. Anja Licht, however, determines that the time of death cannot have been all that long ago. And Staller discovers that the last time people were allowed to ice skate on Lake Starnberg was in 2006. Nothing seems to add up. It's also very disturbing that Hubert can't find any missing persons reports filed by the police that list a young woman of a suitable age and appearance. Girwidz therefore instructs the detectives to photograph the body and publish the picture in the newspaper - in the hope that relatives, acquaintances, or witnesses might come forward. When Hubert and Staller take a picture of the dead woman, they make an astonishing discovery: The skates are much too small. Someone must have put them on her afterward to fake an accident. Finally, the publication of the photo brings the desired result. A caller answers to offer information about the dead woman. To Hubert and Staller's surprise, it turns out to be Sepp Meyerhofer, the owner of the diving school. According to him, the dead woman's name is Anastasia and she was his Ukrainian au pair. After an argument with his wife Theresa, Anastasia allegedly returned to Ukraine without further ado. This story makes Hubert and Staller more than suspicious, and they begin to get to the bottom of the matter. What was this argument about? Was Sepp Meyerhofer perhaps having an affair with Anastasia and wanted to get rid of her? Or did his wife Theresa get wind of the affair and act out of jealousy? The investigators then also meet Till Unold, the owner of Anastasia's au pair agency, who meticulously ensures that his au pairs perform exemplary duties.

Das Seeungeheuer

45 mins

An agitated walker claims to have seen a crocodile at the lake. Hubert considers the news a typical silly season story and is amazed when, together with Staller, he actually finds a small crocodile on the lakeshore - and not far from it, a corpse with bite wounds. Contrary to initial suspicions, however, this is by no means a gruesome death at the hands of a sea monster. The investigation reveals that Tobias Brunner, who regularly let his unusual pet swim in the lake, was bludgeoned to death with a solid object. However, there is no trace of the object. The pathological findings lead Dr. Anja Licht to conclude that the murder weapon must have been a green-painted metal object, and Yazid, Hubert, and Staller set out to search with a metal detector. Apart from a few coins and an antique necklace pendant, they find nothing on the lakeshore and give up in disappointment. They try their luck with Kai Brunner, the victim's brother, who ran a small animal pet shop with Tobias. While Staller explores the animal landscape with interest, Hubert learns that Tobias Brunner was visited by his ex-girlfriend Anke shortly before his death. Although Anke has been in a relationship with shoe store owner Gerd Obermeier for some time, she blames Tobias for her "ruined life." When Hubert and Staller discover that she can no longer have children since having an abortion during her relationship with Tobias, they seem to be on the trail of solving the case. So did she kill her ex-boyfriend out of revenge, or was it her new boyfriend Gerd Obermeier who knew about Anke's visits to Tobias? But the mystery is only solved when Staller promptly gives the necklace he found while searching for the murder weapon at the lake to Sabrina Rattlinger for her birthday, and Yazid organizes a gold-digging course on the lakeshore.

For Andreas Sonnleiter, the amateur goalkeeper of TSV Wolfratshausen, the game is finally over. Hubert and Staller, who had actually been called to the club's premises because of derogatory graffiti, find the amateur club's goalkeeper shot dead in the locker room. The dead man himself was holding the murder weapon. But an impersonal suicide note immediately casts doubt on the alleged suicide. According to his widow Veronika, Sonnleiter was a happily married man who, as an office clerk, had no financial worries. So why would he, of all people, take his own life? Hubert and Staller take a close look at the football club, which is threatened with relegation, and its environment. Was the dead man involved in betting fraud, or had he even become the victim of his fanatical supporters? But despite these suspicions, the investigations come to nothing. It was groundskeeper Heinrich Janker who seemed to put the police on the crucial trail: Sonnleitner, who, according to his coach Stefan Schneider, wasn't particularly popular within the team, was apparently quite successful with the women off the pitch. When Sandra Schmold, the physiotherapist at TSV Wolfratshausen, confided in Hubert that she was pregnant with Sonnleitner's child, and pathologist Dr. Anja Licht was able to definitively rule out suicide due to the lack of gunpowder residue on the deceased's hand, the two investigators could not come to any other conclusion: the victim had apparently poached in other people's territory one too many times. The womanizer paid for this with his life. Through a remarkable appearance on local private radio, Hubert and Staller finally tracked down the crucial witness.

Once again, horses have galloped across farmer Pauli's pastures, leaving deep furrows behind them. Hubert and Staller drive to Claudia Hagen's stud farm to ask her to stop riding across the precious fields. However, a conversation never takes place: Claudia Hagen lies lifeless in the stable of her favorite stallion, Poldi - but there's no sign of him. When Hubert and Staller deliver the tragic news of Claudia's accidental death to Thekla Schiller, Claudia Hagen's partner, their world collapses. Staller's masculinity is severely damaged: a woman who doesn't want to be comforted by him after this stroke of fate? But that's far from the most puzzling thing about this death. Back at the stable, thanks to Staller's unconventional idea, the police discover that Poldi's stable door must have been locked after Claudia's death. Therefore, someone must have been there at the time of her death. The Trail to the Murderer The detectives quickly realize: The rider Farmer Pauli saw that morning could have been the murderer, who escaped on the stallion Poldi. And pathologist Anja Licht confirms their suspicions: The fatal injury was not caused by the hoof kicks, but by a blow to the back of the head with a blunt object. Hubert and Staller frantically search for motives, and they quickly find them: Since Poldi is a well-known dressage horse and has a high value, there are now numerous suspects from the equestrian community. The first lead leads to Hermann Meixner, Poldi's former owner. He is firmly convinced that he sold the stallion to Claudia for less than its value. However, he has an alibi. The police are now focusing on Claudia's brother Michael. He lives relatively penniless in a dilapidated hut and recently had a heated argument with his sister. But Thekla Schiller is also not without suspicion. After Claudia's death, she not only became the sole heir, but also often felt neglected by her partner. Claudia often preferred spending her time dressage riding to spending time with her.

When Beate Inninger lights her chimney, her house is filled with smoke in no time. Helplessly, she calls the police. Hubert is annoyed at the unnecessary work, as the fire department is clearly responsible for this. Staller doesn't even get upset. He'd much rather know if the chimney wasn't blocked by a stork's nest and promptly climbs onto the roof. To his horror, he finds chimney sweep apprentice Lena Roland hanging lifeless in the chimney shaft. But why didn't she climb out of the shaft when she noticed the rising smoke? When Staller finds a container of epilepsy pills next to the victim, everything points to a tragic accident. But far from it: Dr. Anja Licht determines that Lena died of carbon monoxide poisoning hours before the chimney was lit. The murderer cleverly staged everything and made the death look like an industrial accident. Hubert doesn't believe in this absurd idea at all. A Quick Suspicion But Staller wants to prove it: At Yazid's house, he finds a wooden figure the size of Lena, hoists it in a sack onto the roof, and demonstrates that his murder theory is largely feasible. But where and why did the perpetrator kill the chimney sweep? Suspicion quickly falls on Lena's jealous ex-boyfriend, Tom Gotthard, whom she had recently left and who spends every free minute tinkering with his beloved classic car in his mother's garage. He could easily have suffocated Lena with the exhaust fumes from his old car. Girwidz is shocked when he hears the suspect's name-after all, it's the son of his future landlady. He fears that the investigation could cost him the beautiful villa. Undeterred, Hubert and Staller continue their investigation and come across more and more suspects: Did Bruno Merkling, the ambitious district chimney sweep and member of the chimney sweep's guild, want to prevent Lena from ruining his reputation with her poor exam results? Or could the offended apprentice Markus Knöbl not bear Lena Roland's mockery of his awkward love poems.

The two police officers begin their investigation into the priest's immediate environment and initially cannot find any motive for murder. According to altar server Gisela Köhler and Thomas Bauer, organist and undertaker in the small parish, the priest was very popular. A Scandal But then Hubert and Staller learn of a dispute between Pastor Bichler and Gerd Mithuber. Mithuber, who is responsible for allocating grave plots, closely monitors compliance with the cemetery regulations. However, when Mithuber himself erects a cross that is far too large for his deceased wife's grave, a scandal erupts between him and the priest. The motive for the crime now appears to have been identified and the case solved: Gerd Mithuber got rid of the pastor in order to fulfill his dead wife's last wish. But Mithuber has an alibi and is ruled out as the perpetrator. Hubert and Staller are once again in the dark. Until they learn something from the undertaker that makes them suspicious: Organist Gisela Köhler, who is devotedly preparing the pastor's funeral, has apparently chosen an unusual type of coffin - a symbol of true love. However, they only find out whether the police are on the right track in their investigation after Staller is accidentally forced to step in as a pallbearer.

Year after year, he put Kirchner off, saying he would hand over the company to him. Had Kirchner been unable to stand it any longer and killed Marthaler to finally succeed him? Hubert and Staller also target former employee Jörg Lange. He was fired for theft and makes no secret of his dislike for his former boss. Did Lange kill Marthaler out of revenge? The astonished homeowner, Peter Morbach, invites the police into the living room. As expected: no sign of a body. A routine case for the Wolfratshausen police station: Hubert and Staller are supposed to investigate broken lockers at the "See-Oase" wellness hotel. But suddenly they discover a body in the hotel's mud bath. Manager Ute Thoma is shocked - the dead woman is her twin sister Ulrike, with whom she runs the renowned hotel. The first accusations of guilt are circulating: Reinhold, who works at the hotel reception, suspects Robert Jung, Ute Thoma's new boyfriend. Jung had a heated argument with the murder victim the night before. But Robert has an alibi for the time of the crime. Then masseur Mark Werth is forced to explain: In his locker, Hubert and Staller find work clothes with clear signs of a struggle from the crime scene. Mark Werth protests his innocence and assures the police that someone must have planted the clothes on him. Hubert and Staller find it difficult to believe the masseur, as he had recently received a warning for bad behavior. But the evidence is too thin to keep the masseur in police custody. But then the case gets a new lease of life: Ute Thoma receives a threatening letter. Hubert and Police Commissioner Girwidz trust their investigative instincts: Mark Wert isn't capable of such audacity. They are convinced that another person from the hotel's immediate vicinity must be the perpetrator. Girwidz orders Hubert and Staller to provide on-site security. The two, not particularly pleased, check into the "Lake Oasis." It quickly becomes clear: Hubert and Staller don't always find it easy to keep their focus on the essentials in this wellness world. And when they aren't distracted by the pleasant temptations of the wellness offerings, journalist Nadine Scholz throws their investigations into a complete mess. Ultimately, it is their clumsy colleague Martin Riedl who, by chance, puts Hubert and Staller on the right track: The perpetrator is obviously playing a double game.

A serial burglar has been wreaking havoc in Wolfratshausen for some time now, and once again, he was able to strike unhindered. But in this case, the break-in had fatal consequences: Homeowner August Kerschbaumer apparently unexpectedly stumbled across the thief and was brutally pushed down the stairs. Unfortunately, Hubert and Staller can only confirm the man's death. However, the two police officers are puzzled by the fact that this break-in doesn't fit with previous ones: While the thief had always targeted cash and jewelry, this time a violin was also stolen. During the investigation, it turns out that this violin is particularly valuable. Kerschbaumer had recently purchased it and had it restored by violin maker Harald Krüger. Does the perpetrator simply have a lucky hand, or does he know his way around precious instruments? Hubert and Staller are faced with a mystery. And the fact that the long-sought burglar Ben Kiessling has an airtight alibi only complicates the case. Perhaps the break-in was only faked because the perpetrator wanted to cover up the fact that he was actually after the violin? But who could be interested in the instrument? Several people close to Kerschbaumer are now suspected: Harald Krüger, who regularly restored expensive violins for him, knew the value of the instruments. Or the young violin maker Valentina, who is in a more or less dire financial situation. Even Kerschbaumer's widow might have a motive. Hubert and Staller discover that she was very afraid that her husband would ruin them both by buying and selling the expensive musical instruments.

Wild fishing is a punishable offense, a clear case for Hubert and Staller. But just as they are about to catch the poacher, a corpse is on the hook instead of a large pike. A swimming accident looks different, because the body is in a plastic bag. The dead man is innkeeper Frank Pöll, who recently ran the traditional "Ludwig" inn with his brother Gerhard. The brothers had very different ideas about the inn's future. While Gerhard Pöll wanted to continue running the establishment as a down-to-earth, traditional business, Frank planned to turn the inn into an upscale restaurant with exquisite cuisine. The two had a bitter fight over the "Ludwig," father Gerhard Pöll explains to the two investigators. He himself was always on the side of the innovator Frank. His father doesn't have a good word to say about his son Gerhard. Hubert and Staller no longer rule out the possibility that Gerhard Pöll wanted to get rid of his brother in order to continue running the inn according to his own ideas. When Hubert and Staller finally discover that the murder took place in the kitchen of the "Ludwig," they immediately arrest Gerhard. The noose around him tightens more and more: His alibi also turns out to be false. Nevertheless, he continues to staunchly deny having killed his brother. Hubert and Staller continue to search for possible perpetrators, as the other employees of the "Ludwig," especially Gerhard's wife Anna Pöll, but also the head chef and the waitress, also have motives for the crime. Frank Pöll's renovation plans would have jeopardized their jobs. Then pathologist Dr. Anja Licht discovers unusual traces on the murder weapon.

The investigation is in full swing: The victim had most recently worked as a driver for the bus tour operator Wolfgang Schreiber. When the search for a missing pensioner also leads to this bus company, the investigators have their first hot lead. The pensioner had apparently regularly participated in Schreiber's bus trips. Unfortunately for station chief Girwidz, food poisoning confines him to a hospital bed, forcing him to lead the investigation from there. Without his uniform, not only Hubert and Staller don't take him seriously, but also potential witnesses. But Hubert and Staller receive a tip from Girwidz's roommate: The murdered man may have been working as a driver for Schreiber on secret coffee trips. And by all appearances, something terrible must have happened during one of these sales events. To gather solid evidence against the organizers, the two investigators persuade Police Commissioner Girwidz to participate in Schreiber's next coffee trip disguised as a pensioner.

Hubert hates birthday parties, especially when it's his own. Sabrina Rattlinger persuades him to celebrate his birthday in a bar. When Hubert wakes up the next morning in a strange apartment, he is more than horrified: the body of a young woman is lying next to him. And it gets even worse - everything looks like the woman was murdered. Hubert assures his colleagues that he doesn't know the victim and has absolutely nothing to do with the crime. The only big problem is: he can't remember what happened the night before. All the evidence points against him: The knife, which can be clearly identified as the murder weapon, was firmly in his hand when he woke up. The ashtray in the dead woman's hand, in turn, exactly matches the wound on Hubert's head. And the patrol car is still parked in front of the house. Pathologist Anja Licht finds it difficult to admit that her ex-husband could be the perpetrator. Given the compelling evidence, Police Commissioner Girwidz feels compelled to place Hubert under arrest. All investigations are expected to proceed flawlessly, as reporter Nadine Scholz has already gotten wind of the murder and prepared the corresponding scandalous headlines. Girwidz and Staller get to work with full commitment: They reconstruct Hubert's evening, while colleague Sonja Wirth investigates the deceased's surroundings. Police Sergeant Riedl is assigned to look after Hubert - a task as thankless as it is impossible, given how he is suffering under the murder accusation. Hubert is desperate to know what happened that evening. And so he flees the station to investigate on his own. In the meantime, Girwidz and Staller have learned that Hubert was indeed partying the previous evening with a woman.
