Hubert and Girwidz discover a motorcyclist in a meadow who has had a serious accident. When they try to stop, the brakes fail, and the patrol car also lands in the grass. The police officers escape with a scare, but things are less promising for motorcyclist Martin Fritz - seriously injured, he is taken to the intensive care unit. An examination of the vehicles reveals something astonishing: While a marten had tampered with the patrol car, the motorcycle's brake lines had been cut - an attempted murder. Hubert and Girwidz pick up the first lead in the case of the sabotaged motorcycle. It leads them to photographer Jessica Ganslmaier, with whom Fritz had recently had a photo shoot.

When Hubert and Girwidz respond to a stolen wallet, they find its owner, Arno Heinrich, dead on his couch. On the table is a whiskey glass with traces of a pungent-smelling liquid. The case seems clear: suicide. Only the young student Janina Schulz, who lives with the deceased, can't believe it. After all, Arno Heinrich is a bestselling author, university professor, and one of the country's most famous philosophers. After pathologist Dr. Fuchs also determines that the poison in the glass was the same one that killed the philosopher Socrates, and that it is highly likely murder, Hubert and Girwidz begin their investigation.

Hubert and Girwidz actually only want to pick up a drunken Oktoberfest tourist from the S-Bahn station who was allegedly harassing passengers. But when they drop off the barely responsive Spyros Karamanlis at his accommodation, they find a dead Greek woman in a dirndl. From their neighbor Mischmeier, the police learn that the owners always rent out their house to tourists from abroad during Oktoberfest, in this case to Karamanlis and two Greek women. What happened between Karamanlis and his companions, and where is the second woman? When Hubert and Girwidz finally pick up Ariadne Papadopoulou at the nearby lake, the first thing they have to do is overcome language barriers.

A prototype vehicle, nicknamed "Erlkönig," is caught speeding through a radar trap set up by Hubert and Girwidz. When they stop the vehicle, they discover that the driver is dead and the car was traveling autonomously. Why did test driver Rosalie Motz have to die? The two detectives are unwillingly assisted in their investigation by 14-year-old Tom Burgmüller, who writes about police work for the school newspaper and also happens to be the police chief's nephew. Fearing for the reputation of their precinct, Hubert and Girwidz are under immense pressure to solve the case quickly and, for their standards, as discreetly as possible.

On the banks of the Elbe, the Water Police find a dead climber. Forensic investigation reveals that Toni Stadler fell because his equipment had been tampered with. It seems Dr. Jaschki was right: sport is murder. Stadler was an experienced climbing instructor, but before his last climb, he'd had a falling out with his girlfriend Angie and his friend Ben, who is also the chairman of the climbing club. Did one of them eliminate Toni? Or was Kai Wischmann the perpetrator, whose wife fell during a climbing trip with Toni and has been in a persistent vegetative state ever since? And what is little Nele, one of Toni's students, hiding? She's been secretly hanging around the climbing gym.

Traces on the body suggest a struggle. The police learn that the campground was to be sold. All clues point to the deceased's brother, who was determined to prevent the sale. Was it truly fratricide? What does his wife, Mara (Christin Balogh), really know? And what role does the buyer of the property play, the man whose torn photograph the deceased had in his pocket?

On a bridge in the Bavarian Alps, Hubert and Girwidz discover an abandoned car. The driver, Frank Giebel, lies dead at the foot of the bridge. Everything points to suicide under the influence of alcohol. However, a visit to Giebel's apartment reveals entirely different clues, suggesting foul play. Hubert and Girwidz then investigate the deceased's background and learn that he worked as a driver for a used clothing recycling company. They quickly discover that something fishy is going on there.

Yazid is trying his hand at real estate and is showing a young couple around a widow's house. When they stumble upon her body, Yazid's attempt to gain a foothold in the property business comes to an abrupt end. Just a few days earlier, the widow had received her husband's life insurance payout. Clearly, someone had been after the single woman's money. The first clue leads to the "Submerged" diving school, where the deceased had taken a diving lesson shortly before her death. The owners don't seem to be telling the whole truth and prefer to shift suspicion toward the insurance broker who arranged the payout to the widow and apparently also took a personal interest in his client.

A Berlin reporter is found naked in his car booth at a pond. He was beaten to death and transported from the recently converted bio wellness hotel "Im Einklang", scented its aromatic oils and his tire slashed with its steak knife. Hubert and Girwidz investigate the staff and only simultaneous guest, none other then the Dortmund-dispatched 'diversity and attitudes' officer, who supposes all kinds of modern problems where nobody has one, except her, in small police stations not required to have their own 'confidence person', while nobody could trust her, and she antagonized people at the hotel too, but a family twist complicates the case. Martin Riedl should have gone undercover as hotel guest, having his apartment wrecked by humidity and threatened with gentrification, but Reimund Girwidz snatches up the perk, only to pay with blood and pain for clues.

Responding to her unsympathetic neighbors' nuisance alert, Hubert and Girwidz find Jessica Jablonski's corpse besides an empty stiletto shoes shipping box, in which something else must have exploded fatally. Therapist Nadine Stäble, whose flyer was found in the apartment, tries to hide the shopaholic was her patient. Apparently she was never home when receiving tons of online packages, a relevant profile in the whole police station's investigation for a wave of online shopping fraud, as demonstrated by Yazid with a fake order intriguing Reimund, which may well connect.

While jogging together after work, Christina Bayer and an acquaintance stumble upon a body by the roadside. A strange wound on the neck of wealth manager Peter Münch isn't the only puzzle. It's also odd that the man had told his wife he'd been at a support group for overweight people at the time of his death. For Hubert and Girwidz, it's a tricky case. The "Firm Friends"-as the group is called-claim that the deceased hadn't attended their meetings for weeks.

Naturally, Hubert and Girwidz focus on the attempted murder of the priest and quickly find a motive. But was the long-standing feud between the chairman of the shooting club, Grasser, and Father Stein really the reason for the shootout in the cemetery? Or is something else entirely behind it? The fact that Riedl, of all people, contributes to solving the case, even though he was only supposed to be investigating the cat murder, surprises not only him.

A hunt dog on his morning walk spontaneously brings constable Riedl to the corpse of a fatally head-shot alto-viola-player, member of the string quartet that just played at the Joseph and Jana Brecht wedding. Given the location, the team suspects a link with the poaching and grim hunt for water fowl near a fish pond, but despite Riedl getting stuck on a hunting platform, can't find any that fits. The viola itself is found of serious value, perhaps a better motive, linked to non-hunters.

The overheating engine of the police car leads Hubert and Girwidz to the farm of dairy farmer Detlef Lechner. But instead of finding water for the radiator, they discover the daughter of fashion designer Bianca Simlinger in a dilapidated shed. She has apparently been kidnapped by the dairy farmer. When he dies in a car accident while fleeing, the case seems clear-cut. But Hubert's gut tells him otherwise. When pathologist Dr. Fuchs determines that the dairy farmer was under the influence of strong medication he regularly took for cancer, Hubert is certain: Lechner could never have carried out the kidnapping alone.

Hubert and Girwidz discover the body of kindergarten teacher Simone Hackl in a daycare center. While initial evidence points to a burglary resulting in death, Hubert and Girwidz uncover a possible motive for murder in the kindergarten's surroundings. According to a written complaint, a large number of parents disagreed with the victim's teaching methods. Although the daycare management did not dismiss the teacher, the concerned parents were unanimous in their opinion: Ms. Hackl must go.

A street musician who was playing in front of Mara's hair salon at the time of the murder could testify. But he has vanished without a trace.
