Following Wallace Mahoney's death which is unsolved and Frank's disappearance, Annalise and her students try to move on. But it's not easy. Wes pushes Laurel away. And someone is posting flyers of Annalise with "killer" on them. The university decides to relieve of Annalise of her teaching duties and offer her a research position. But she asks if she can start a Pro Bono clinic and with her team and some new students, she gives them a chance to try a case. And the case is of a foreign man who was caught with drugs and is about to be deported and they have to try and prevent it. She'll give the case to who can give the best defense strategy and the one who comes up with it, is Wes.

Annalise assigns her students to help a woman who was convicted 32 years ago for killing her abusive husband and when she was first charged she couldn't bring it up. Now she's up for parole. Annalise sends each of them to talk to her and she decides whom she wants to represent her and the one she chooses is Connor. Connor tries to get her to be remorseful when she appears before the parole board but she doesn't feel remorseful. Connor has the others talk to the sister of her husband who is always appearing at her parole hearings and says something which in turns leads to her parole being denied. And when they talk to her she doesn't want to help her. Annalisse is informed by the university board that her future is endanger because of the flyers floating around that pegs her as a killer. Bonnie learns that Laurel is trying to contact Frank and brings it to the attention of Annalisse.

With Annalisse on the outs with the university and with her job in jeopardy, she decides to represent a man who is a perv who solicits call girls, and when the last one he was with dies, he faces charges. While most of her students don't want to handle the case, Michaela says she wants it and Annalisse puts her in charge. But when she meets the man, she wants to be removed. But Annalisse tells her she has to stick it out. Annalisse tries to ask the D.A. for a plea deal for her client but apparently even the D.A.'s office refuses to deal with her. Bonnie discovers something about the client and tells Annalisse about it so they confront him. That's when he mentions that this is not the first time he killed someone. That other person, he hid the body. After learning of this, Analisse tells her people they're off the case. Michaela upon being told this and learning her ex is engaged to someone else, decides to go to Atlantic City and asks Asher, Oliver and Connor to go with her. Bonnie tells Annalisse that the other person he killed is still classified as missing; revealing her location could help restore her image. Annalisse tells Laurel to ask her father to help them locate Frank, but when she meets it brings up all sorts unresolved issues between them which they try to resolve. And afterwards, before he does what she wants, he asks her to do something she doesn't want to. And Frank calls her and tells her Annalisse tried to kill him.

Annalisse is defending a teen who stole a lot of money and he claims he can't return it because he spent it. Asher is first chair. It's while in the midst of the trial that Annalisse is informed that the Bar Association has suspended her because they received a video of her smacking her client. With Annalisse out, Bonnie steps in. Annalisse tries to straighten it out but she's told she needs to convince the Bar that she's OK. She goes out and drinks. The team tries to find out what their client did with the money and they learn he bought things for a child. He says he got someone pregnant and he's trying to help out. Laurel tries to find Frank and goes to his father who tells her things about him. Frank is in a prison and is trying to get into a secure section.

The one who's behind the flyers is discovered. Wes goes out with Meggy and her father and comes to a decision. We then take a look at how Annalisse first met Frank through her husband.

And they later learn the police are looking for Wes as a person of interest in the Mahoney case so Annalisse tells him to stay with her, while he wants to go to the police. Annalisse then has them represent a female soldier who attacked a man whom she claims was attacking her.

And to find out who the witness is, Bonnie tells Annalisse, Frank is the one who can do it. And she lets him do it and learns who the witness is. Hargrove wants Annalisse to see her about something personal.
