Episode 1
DI John Keenan and DS Luke French question a medical registrar, Jac Naylor, who is accused of stabbing a patient, a man who she claims assaulted and raped her the previous year. She denies having anything to do with the man's death and points to a mysterious patient, a young woman she was treating, as her only witness. The police finally get the goods on local thief and burglar Daren Edgar when a search warrant uncovers stolen goods in his flat. He leads them on a merry chase but when caught, refuses to reveal how he managed to steal the goods in the first place. His victim has his own idea as to how to get the information. Kevin Watson brings his daughter Emma into the station to file a report after she is swarmed and beaten by a group of girls. PC Lucy Slater takes her statement but it becomes obvious that here is much more to the story than is being told. Meanwhile, Luke French's wife is a week overdue and the father-to-be is feeling quite stressed. The new DCI, Scott Vaughn, reports for duty.
Episode 2
After three university students are found dead in their flat, the police believe that there may be a batch of contaminated drugs on the street. A fourth victim, Sam Cornish, is soon found dead and the police take custody of her infant son, Danny, who they reunite with his putative father. It all brings back painful memories for PC Robert Clifton who has chosen not to be a parent to his child. As for Sam, it turns she is person dealing the drugs but the police want to find her supplier. Meanwhile, the Internet dating thief has struck again, this time stealing a client's watch and wallet. PCs Parker and Jackson decide to mount their own little sting operation. Sgt. Young settles a dispute between an irate home owner and the student who, while drunk, damaged his property. Rachel Barker decides to cause him some grief.
Episode 3
Rebuffed by the mother of his child, PC Robert Clifton takes extraordinary measures to get to see his son. Sgt. Christian Young learns that he is the subject of a formal investigation after allegations of misconduct. When Inspector Jenny Black learns the identity of the person who initiated the complaint, she hits the roof. PC Kelly Cooper returns to duty and is reunited with her regular partner, PC Neil Parker. DI Keenan and DS French may have a gang war on their hands. With the body count at three, they may have to face an all-out battle when one of the gangs kidnaps a young woman. A series of events leads to tragedy when one of the Holby South constables is shot.
Episode 4
Everyone at Holby South remains in a state of shock with the loss of one of their colleagues. PCs Cooper and Parker interview a bickering couple. She is convinced that her husband has been sending her nasty text messages but he denies it. DI Keenan and DS French try to solve a vicious assault on Pradip Das, a respectable and law abiding young man who was severely beaten while walking home late one evening. Although the estate where he was found is primarily Afro-Caribbean and white, they're concerned that it may have been racially motivated but unlikely associated with the recent spate of gang violence they have been dealing with. They get a break in the case when PCs Lucy Slater and William Jackson arrest a young man, Trey Gabriel, with a video of the beating on his phone. A local youth counselor works with the police to try and sort it all out. Kate Keenan tries to track down the owner of a ladies handbag that's been in the lost and found for several months.
Episode 5
DI Keenan is convinced that Sean Burrows is a wife and child beater but his emotional response to the case forces DCI Vaughn to re-assign him and put DS French in charge. Keenan obviously has his own demons to deal with but wife Jenny is getting a bit fed up. Accused of trying to kill his father, Lee Burrows is in jail and has to deal with some pretty rough customers. PC Lucy Slater is on sick recovering at her parents home. She thinks she's lost her nerve and may not be able to return to work which suits her mother just fine. A surprise visit from Mac and his wife leads her to make her decision. DCI Vaughn's attraction to Jenny is causing problems. PC Neil Parker is also carrying a torch for someone but won't tell partner Kelly Cooper who she is. The two of them are also called to a domestic dispute when a mother is having a problem with her son - who is two years old and refuses to put on his trousers.
Episode 6
DS French looks into Sean Burrows' background and finds that he was moving every year or so for good reason. Usually, school or child care authorities were interested in him and he was clearly moving to avoid detection. The stumbling block is Judy Burrows who supports her husband's version of events. DI John Keenan decides to deal with his past and visits his own abusive father in prison. As he learns, the man hasn't changed and has no regrets at having beaten John and his mother. He also learns that wife Kate had actually written to his father and even sent him family photos, leading to a major row when he gets home. Kate, who knows nothing about John's abusive home life as a child, has just about had enough. Neil Parker tells shocked Kelly just who he's in love with.
Episode 7
Detective John Keenan has to deal with a distraught Martin Fielding, who is again visiting the station with reports that his missing wife Anna has been seen. The woman has been missing for nearly two years and Keenan doesn't hold much chance of finding her. That is until one of the perpetrators in a string of robberies is seen. Kate Keenan is still having trouble forgiving John for almost striking her. A new PC, Jake Loughton, arrives at the station and is partnered with PC Lucy Slater. He doesn't seem to be much of a team player however. PC Jackson's mother is in the cells for drunkenness. Kelly Cooper isn't sure that she and PC Neil Parker can continue working together now that he has made his feelings known.
Episode 8
The police are out to arrest Toby Wilson, a pimp who not only runs a brothel but has his girls selling crack cocaine for him. They raid his house but the drugs are all found in one girl's room and she says they belong to her. Unless they can get her to confess, Wilson will go free. When a concerned mother reports her 16 year-old daughter missing, Lucy Slater's new partner is prepared to file and forget but she persists and may have found a connection to Wilson. She has also learned something of Jake Loughton's background. Insp. Black has a bit of a scare and decides it's time to start her maternity leave.
Episode 9
The police are after Aaron Ford a drug dealer, Kwame Kwelo is severely beaten. Ford thinks Kwelo is the grass who tipped off the police to a recent drug purchase. With Insp. Black on maternity leave, Sgt. Christina Young is made acting Inspector. He helps Miranda prepare for her job interview. He also helps out Wayne Westwood who is arrested yet again for stealing. What no one knows is that he may also be involved with Ford and Kwelo. Two feuding neighbors keep Kelly and Neil busy: one keeps urinating on the others tree and he retaliates by throwing paint on his Jaguar. The Frenchs ask the Keenans if they would be legal guardians for their baby if anything happens but John overhears Kate telling Mandy about his father and storms out.
Episode 10
PCs Lucy Slater and Jake Loughton answer a call at a local bank where a violent robbery has just taken place. One employee was shot while another, Mrs. Duffy, helps the police with the investigation. DI Keenan and DS Luke French review the CCTV footage but the man, who got away with £30,000, was wearing a balaclava. He was using a Russian pistol, however. Neil Parker and Kelly Copper try to help an old man, Clarence, who doesn't remember where he lives. John and Kate continue work on repairing their relationship but DCI Vaughn is having trouble with it all. Insp. Black gives birth to a baby boy. Luke French receives shattering news.
Episode 11
The police are trying to solve a series of attacks on prostitutes. They are being attacked in their homes by an assailant who puts a bag over their head and beats them severely. CCTV footage of men in the area around the time of one of the beatings is John's father. It also appears the beatings started just around the time he was released from prison. DS Luke French, still grieving over the death of his wife, returns to work against everyone's better judgment and takes charge of the case. He and John don't see eye to eye on how to run the case. A shopkeeper and his wife are receiving blackmail notes and someone may be putting adulterated foods on their shelves. They are also bickering constantly, driving everyone around the bend. Miranda returns to the station as a drug counselor and she and acting Inspector Young begin to explore a relationship.
Episode 12
The uniformed officers of Holby South are on high alert when a sniper starts taking shots at them. He's also calling the station with warnings that someone will die. Keenan and French manage to identify him as a soldier whose son died while in a police holding cell - and where PC Jake Loughton was the Sergeant in charge of the lockup. John Keenan's father terrorizes his wife Kate by breaking into their home and in his drunken state not only smashes up the place but hits her. Kelly meanwhile is asked to review the CCTV footage from a nightclub that was robbed and finds something that will forever affect he personal life. Acting Inspector Young and Miranda decide the time has come to make their romance public but while cleaning up at home, Miranda comes across a sachet of drugs and struggles not to have a relapse.
