It will be unreasonable for the underground to accomplish this from outside, therefor the Heroes must do it from inside. During a roll-call the next day, Colonel Klink informs the prisoners that requests to have fuel drums relocated from the POW occupied hut 12 are denied and, with glee, further denies moving those prisoners to safer barracks, thereby ensuring that there will be no sabotage attempts. There is, however, a deadline of Friday for the pickup, at which time this underground group will disperse, and the material will no longer be available. So secretive is this group that they refuse contact of any kind with the Heroes themselves. The only means to acquire this important data is Klink's hubcap. This wasn't going to be a problem until General Burkhalter informs Klink that all Stalag Commandants will be required to undergo a physical examination which, if failed, will result in a transfer to the Russian front. Klink, who is in deplorable physical condition, makes it known that he will be working-out with no visits to town until after his doctor's appointment on Friday. Episode 26
Fri, Mar 27, 197030 mins
General Burkhalter interrupts Colonel Klink's romantic evening with fraulein Heidi, bringing news of yet another prisoner escape, this time from Stalag 12. POW escapes are out of control and the General believes that there must be a processing center to manage such a large volume of escapees. He then orders Klink to immediately increase security and perform a surprise inspection. Meanwhile, the Heroes have concerns about the great number of Allied bombers being shot down in their attempts to destroy a nearby tunnel and decide that they should make a ground sabotage attack, hopefully eliminating that target. When Klink barges in on the gang, he makes known the frustration of Burkhalter's information and subsequent orders. However, the increased security has their tunnel exit blocked by patrols. Desperate for a means to complete their chosen task, Hogan fabricates a story for Sgt Schultz, wherein a US POW camp commander arranged for prisoners to escape and be followed to their contacts. Schultz immediately informs Klink, who quickly lays claim to the idea, and begins arrangements for the Heroes to escape, thus, unbeknownst to him, supplying the means for the men to get to the tunnel.
