Michael Cooper is the mayor of a small Midwestern community. He is an honest, decent man--maybe too honest for the staff around him, who always worry that his deeds might not be to his advantage politically. He is basically a conservative, although his children, Annie and James, are radical left-wingers. He also has an odd tendency to burst into song at least once each episode.
