When evil King Nikolas uses another of Daedalus' inventions to try to destroy Hercules, Daedalus at last realizes that burying his grief in work is hurting other people, but King Nikolas refuses to let Daedalus quit.

It has just been sold by grave robbers to Salmoneus, who makes it the star exhibit of a house of horrors. Hercules accepts to help when he learns the mummy is about to seek bloody revenge and thus gain force to shower horror over the world. Anuket's rival for the throne, high-priest Sokar, found the mummy first and plans to subdue it and have it absorb Hercules's superhuman force to become invincible.

When Hercules visits his mother, stepfather Jason and family tombs in his native Thebes, Hera strikes it with lightning and a fire-breathing enforcer, which ends up killing Iolaus while he rushes to warn Hercules of her lethal mission. Aided by grateful Persephone, Hercules gets permission to retrieve his mate from the underworld if he can eliminate the enforcer before sunset and is given an outdated enforcer as unwanted, yet as it turns out useful, helper. meanwhile Iolaus meets his father Skouros, whom he despises for leaving his mother and him, and comes to terms with his military careerist past.

Having won the parents' confidence, Klepto steals the baby monster to be raised as the company's monster weapon. Hercules and Typhon give chase.

Adamis plans revenge on Hercules, who crushed him five years ago, and spent that time becoming a dragon master, but also has a spy among the villagers and an adulterous traitor-ally, widow Cynea. Iolaus would just kill the dragon, then attack Adamis's men, but Hercules wants all the facts first. Braxis is proved not just bloodthirsty when he spares Zacharaiah's small boy Gyger, who intruded the cave liar for revenge carrying father's sword but gets a dragon's ride.

Rival king Xenon pretends to accede but lures Orestes into a festival stag hunt to have him 'accidentally' killed by a master archer. Orestes's widow Niobe, once Ioulaus's lover, convinces him to pose as his near-identical cousin and continue the diplomatic peace initiate. While they do, they become lovers too, but Iolaus doubts if he can remain king or fool everyone for long, and Xenon comes up with another murder plot at mighty, reputedly crazy king Phadrons's court.

Hercules escapes (of course), frees his captured shipmates, and hunts for Cassandra.
