During a failed DEA drug bust, a canine handler is killed and Five-0 teams up with them to prevent the record-size cargo being recuperated by the cartel. Steve finds the DEA dog shot, and gradually adopts him, as Eddie, while declaring himself a cat lover, but even McBride falls for 'only this' canine. Just-exited Navy SEAL Junior Reigns turns to McGarrett looking for a job, but it has to be on is team. Steve informs him to have no vacancies, but after Junior insists and washes Five-0 cars, Steve introduces him to Duke Lukela, insisting that to become a part of the task force he must first graduate from the police academy. Danny discovers even Steve has feelings when insisting to import his uncle's superior New Jersey water 'needed for perfect pizza'.

Jerry reported 5-0 has been hacked expertly, Steve turns to jailed master hacker Aaron Wright, who agrees to help in exchange for a VIP hotel suite. He finds he list of secret informers stolen, but is liberated by armed thugs as Tani only has eyes for her private phone messages. While checking on Junior, whom he provides with a smartphone and takes into his home, Steve learns Kamekona was kidnapped and his food truck employee Nahele left to burn in it -rescued by Steve- by the thugs of drug baron Joey Kang, whom he 'owes' loot. Blind hacker Harley Taylor is the key.

While Five-0 must do everything they can to find him, Danny and Steve's mobilized friends hold an intervention at his home and hire "stress evaluator" Chloe Gordon to try and help McGarrett reduce his stress, given recent medical troubles, and she bravely rides along to stick her nose in everything, not just Steve's affairs.

Technician Isaiah Phillips was fired before for grave oversights, but indicates sabotage. Shaw changed his identity and seems identical to an investment fraudster, yet the victim believes he's not, but there was posthumous identity theft. As Luke Nixon, the victim actually had turned DEA informer on his father-in-law, Mexican drug baron Juan Camilo, whose cartel is involved.

Adam's foundation board acquaintance Monique Sims is hospitalized after an incident aboard yacht. When Steve, Danny, Junior and Tani find and board it, Steve realizes they must quarantine themselves having found over a dozen passengers and crew died from a mystery disease. The sample Steve sends by the helicopter that can't take them back show it's a biological weapon not even known to the CDC. Monique isn't infected, but according to her own story blaming one Marko both should be dead, but his corpse is found aboard, clobbered by the dying other guests. All depends on finding the cure, which must exist, but Monique, who knows, kills a nurse to flee after her client, who wasn't served, demands his money back fast. Meanwhile, supposedly terminal honesty is interesting between the 'last' champagne-drinking restaurant partner detectives.

Comatose Danny keeps awaking from dreams about their potential lives begin upturned: Danny's son Charlie joins the Honolulu Police Department and is offered a job on Five-0 by Tani, Adam and Kono have a child, Grace weds Will Grover and Tani is the new leader of the Five-0 Task Force as Captain and is married to Junior. In fact a bomb on the door keeps them all pinned down.

When the federal government sets up an FBI task-force in Hawaii to investigate recently multiplied gang related violence, Steve firmly rejects any suggestion that this coincides with the return of former Yakuza prince Adam Noshimuri, who dismissed the jailed former Hawaiian Yakuza boss Michelle Shioma's demand to 'find' her children, in witness protection. Next task force member agent Fischer is murdered with wife and child by bombing their new home. Five-0 Task Force teams up with surviving FBI agent Colin McNeal, Honolulu PD and the National Guard to arrest and question all known organized crime members, whch proves Junior's fire baptism, as he was to back up to HPF agents, who are both shot, but he overcomes the fiend. Yet none sings and Shioma's succeeding deputy Brandon Kenzo, who seems to lose no goons while his rivals are decimated, is found innocent. Convinced it's the work of flown-in Japanese hitmen, Steve assigns Adam to head up a special division within the Five-0 Task Force which focuses solely on these Yakuza crimes.

Five-0 investigates a diamond smuggler corpse stolen from a graveyard, where the fatally shot guard was dumped, buried still alive, no organs or valuables stolen. They must track down the smuggler's partner before the stolen diamonds can leave Hawaii. Awaiting as ride when she leaves prison, Adam recruits reluctant Kapula Sugimoto as the first member of his organized crime task force as a confidential informant, to spy on the Yakuza boss. Adam helps Tani's brother Koa get a job in construction, only to find Koa overdosed on drugs, but gets patched up informally by forensic doctor Noelani Cunha.

Adam activates his organized crime task force into full effect, by having undercover Jessie 'accidentally' stealing Hideki Tashiro's car and returning it so as to be recruited now the mass arrests have thinned all gang ranks. This leads to Adam getting kidnapped and locked away in a jungle put. Danny asked New Jersey uncle Vito to come to Hawaii to help him and Steve get their restaurant off the ground, but the expert consultant rather enjoys the perks of a dodgy contractor, in league with .

Team Steve examines the murder on the unpopular headmaster of a fancy private school, where he's still presumed missing, with Junior and Tani posing as a prospective pupil's parents. They find teacher Helen Meech risked being sacked by him and the PTA fundraiser-leading couple Jared and Natalie Barton involved in major fraud on behalf of their construction company, but also money laundering for a not-amused, armed crime gang. Adam is tormented by ants even before his torture-questioning for the 20 million his father allegedly buried. Hideki Tashiro, whose calls confirm he's working under a crime king, has him iron-beaten brutally by his own undercover Jessie Nomura till he's forced to lead the way to a buried treasure, however no cash but a murder weapon to blackmail a billionaire culprit. Uncle Vito exhausts even Danny's trust as business consultant, getting arrested for bribing the liquor license official and claiming restaurants are just bad business, even if the partners weren't ignorant.

The team works out it's planned by a bunch of people <hose loved-ones got cancer from Agricore's products, and helps barber-attorney Odell Martin prepare a case against it while preventing a venomous bloodbath. Adam questions Jessie's part and learns about her gangster lover.

Danny meets with the manhandled wife of the person who shot him in quarantine while he was a New Jersey cop, and her lover.

Danny dumps on Jerry to show a pitilessly-strict fire inspector around rickety HQ. Adam is shocked to find Jessie joined the Yakuza-offshoot lead ruthlessly by Noriko, who claims to be his father's heir as his sister and demands he hands her the $20;000, so he turns to the 'sole Japanese crime banker', only to find Jessie fleeing with the cash, but unable to escape.

A Hawaiian talisman found on a radio-active terrorist make Catherine team op with Five-O as he's the lead to terrorist Asad and his pursuit of a dirty bomb. Neither military grade uranium nor the the royal tomb the talisman stems from are known, but Steve realizes both fit an abandoned island base, where it may all be stored in closed-up bunkers. Jerry pretends hunter experience to come along on account of the heritage value, but its' up to Steve to deal with lurking fiends who get away with one nuclear grenade. Junior can't face his estranged father's birthday and makes a bad fall jogging, into a ravine, but sends Eddie back so Tani can come looking. Adam wants to clear the way to join his beloved.

The captain tells Steve, entering at gunpoint, half the crew's mutiny was suppressed but murderer Yuri Petrov escaped on the island. Despite bluff-blackmail, the consul general isn't very cooperative. The only clue leads to a couple attacked at home, where no valuables were stole, presumably deep cover spies, but the motive proves more personal.
