Steve is startled to find in Japan Shelbourne is none other then his mother Doris McGarrett, shocked to hear she's a former Pentagon spy who staged her death 'for the family's safety', yet brings her home. She must be moved to a HPD safe-house as Danno must report Wo Fat has already been broken from jail transport by helicopter lift. It's soon assigned to Chin's nemesis Delano, who the team now tracks down, but he's also pursuing a major, bloody contraband operation.

Danny soon bitterly regrets having let Steve lure him along for the weekend on an ocean fishing trip, for after they enjoying reeling in a tuna, they spot a dingy and rescue the man in it, only to be forced at gunpoint to jump in the sea while he hijacks their rented yacht and shoots the dingy leaky. Panicking Danny can only shiver and hose, Steve swims ahead to pull the load until a tiger shark scares even him back in. Fearful hours later, they find a drifting yacht and a shot corpse inside. Its motor is wrecked and the radio sabotaged by the hijacker, beyond Steve's repair skills. When the coast guard finally passes, the cops are arrested but soon released and handed the case. Their pirate is identified as a recently fired marina guard Gil Scates, interestingly embroiled with the yacht's rich owners, the Burgess couple, which has their own secrets.

Polo player Billy Keats was beheaded while riding towards a garrote wire on tycoon Spencer Madsen's private club field, where continental vet Al Reingold is caught horse doping, but has an alibi. Son Jake Madsen suggests he was the intended victim as they switched training slots. He was kidnapped as a teen and escaped after a finger was sent to his parents. His testimony jailed kidnapper Randy Thorpe, who later admits to being paid for the bomb in Jake's mother Amanda's car which doesn't kill her, but the murderer gains access to the hospital. Steve is worried sick as his mother Doris, a retired CIA agent on the run for years, returns home out of the blue and waves protection.

The team must find and rescue him before he too falls victim to the same ritualistic murder, as the weapon is identified marked with a goat in pentagram. He was indeed abducted to the home of Seth Tilton and his guardian grandmother Helen and escapes from his cage, but all are in for cruel surprises.

Investigating an explosion, the team finds traces of acetone peroxide, typical of Middle Eastern terrorists, suggesting a terrorist cell in Hawaii, traced to a terrorist hideout to prepare an attack at a military base where the Secretary of Defense is speaking at an event, where the thug commits suicide by cop. Five-0 and HPD secure the area, locate and disarm the bomb, but the terrorist responsible has escaped. can't move or it explodes. As the bomb squad works to defuse the device, Steve distracts Danny from his anxiety by making him tell how he escaped death in New Jersey. Danny recalls the incident in 2001, before '9-11', when he and then Newark Police partner Grace Tilwell were captured and tortured by drug gang members Ray and Billy. The gang members kill his partner before Danny could escape and kill all three members responsible. At the time Danny's wife was pregnant; it's implied that he named their daughter Grace after Tilwell.

Danny's hacker acquaintance Adam 'Toast' Charles is wired to confirm and approach the prime suspect, Chinese cyber crime mastermind Kong Liang, who probably failed to press-gang Zach, so Five-O must arrest him. However he points to a different trail, while Kono follows a lead to a cloud cash from Zach's kid brother James, only to be taken hostage with the Slater family by skull men. Morty convinces Mary not to wait till it's too late to make up with close kin.

When she convinces him she's not, they agree to work together to find the man but he tells her not to tell Steve.

Still junior robber Makani Jacobs is easily tracked down and arrested after a street pursuit in his birthday suit. However he was only bribed to assist be a man unknown, for more then the cash loot, which is found dumped by the road. His description of the real robber doesn't match victim Jim's, yet the team bumps into suspect Martin Cordova, whom even Steve finds hard and dangerous to chase, given his parkour skills and criminal record, but he also has a surprising lot in common with one of the above.

Steve and Danny help out with Grace's Girl-Scout troop at jungle camp. Steve's party stumbles upon a wounded man and bandages him, only to be "rewarded" by being held at gunpoint. It's Ron Alberts, who orders them to the camp, where Danny and everybody are locked up in a camper van. He only takes volunteer Steve and 'insurance' Lucy back into the jungle, where he ignores Steve's advice at his peril and shoots a passerby, left in a ravine, even neglects his infecting wound, searching for what turns out to be looted diamonds, which Lucy must fetch from a parachute up a tree. Danny escapes through the wooden floor and a repaired cellphone informs Five-O, which sends rangers and links the case with a crashes plane transporting a load of exhibition grade diamonds. Danny searches for Steve with the Akela, a nurse, just in time to save Steve from Ron's grim robber accomplice. Meanwhile, Chin duly worries about Kono and Adam welcoming his jail-released brother Michael Noshimuri, who may remain a Yakuzi.

However lab analyst Charlie Fong finds he was studying extinct-presumed species, which trace to the northernmost private island wildlife reserve, where botanist Dr. Brian Stevens hopes to find the cure for his son's rare disease, where the killer pas to strike again. Meanwhile Kono's FBI relieve babysitting arrogant prisoner crown witness Sang Min is outsmarted.

Olelo Ho'Opa'I Make (Death Sentence)

While Adam Noshimuri enjoys quality time with Kono, her cousin Chin, who was presumed taking time off to mourn his late wife's death anniversary, is drugged abducted. He awakes in the island's maximum security prison, where several guards are bribed to ignore his request to be identified and liberated, instead delivering him to the vindictive gang of rogue ex-cop Kaleo. Only failed crown witness Sang Min stands with Chin,.who desperately needs any help to get out or at least contact Steve, even if he expects the helpful criminal to plan his own escape rather then hoping for a Five-O recommendation to get transferred far from his lethal con enemies. When Five-O realizes Chin isn't at his usual mourning retreat, they track down his abductor Paul Delano, who seeks revenge for his killed criminal brother Frank, but arrive at the prison only when a violent riot is already at hand.

Steve and Danny give chase by helicopter, but must give hospitalizing a victim priority.

A police officer is shot while moonlighting as a funeral escort and the only clue is a shell casing that has his name engraved on it. A few days later another officer, who happened to be the former partner of the first officer, is shot and killed during a shootout. At first it is thought that the officer was killed by the criminal, but when they figure out that the officer was shot from a higher elevation and a shell casing with that officer's name found where the shot was fired, McGarrett begins to suspect that both officers were targeted by the same man. Also, a few days later someone takes a shot at Steve he figures out that the killer is Curt Stoner, who blamed the two officers as well as Steve's dad and Duke for the loss of his hands in an attempted bank robbery. Unfortunately, Duke is shot and seriously wounded by Stoner, and because Steve's father is dead is now targeting the younger McGarrett.

Meanwhile Steve hires retired Navy intelligence officer Mick Logan to check into his estranged ex-spy mother Doris McGarrett, who eagerly responds to his flirtation.
