Steve McGarrett has been arrested and jailed as sole suspect for governor Jameson's murder, on security tape, in fact being set up by Wo fat himself. Hitman Victor Hesse, father McGarret's murderer, stabs him during exercise, but as a ploy to enable Steve's escape, fearing Wo fat will dispose of all 'loose ends' lethally. Lieutenant Governor Denning, acting, mandates I.A. to clean up, which includes suspending Kono. Danny and Chin keep working within the police, ultimately joined by Steve to clear him and prove Wo Fat's guilt, meanwhile discovering a convoluted plot of crimes centered on dirty bomb-grade nuclear material with a surprising purpose.

Danny fatherly breaks the news to crushed bright preteen son Josh, whose custody and management of the firm go to his aunt, Samantha Martell, who left it, perhaps forcibly, to head the Griffin charity, which looks after street children, mainly by offering free gym programs. While the team works out the identity and motive of the fiend, Joe White calls a marker on a lip-reader to clarify father McGarret's investigation, but that leads to a direct confrontation with Wo Fat, who kills again to stop them.

Their fallen camera records a bit of how a couple of 'ghostbusters' filming at Halloween on a traditional Hawaiian burial site are brutally murdered. Forensics soon finds more modern bodies, as if used by a serial killer, and a record trace to a suspect, who is found murdered in his home. Danny, who failed to respect the local taboo, falls victim perhaps to bad luck (in finding a new flat that's rather his own doing) and vandalism, which yields another murder suspect.

Her supervisor Jeff Morrison, whom she failed to inform timely, helps the team retrace her recent investigations, which concerned diverse matters, like animal (part) smuggling and sweatshops.

Danny's hotel having been attacked by black mold, he drives McGarrett mad as troublesome couch lodger. Chin and Kono set a trap for the car thieves to order's boss Ken Naoka.

In a race to save the witnesses from elimination, the team concentrates on the only arrested cradle employee and teenage hostage Jason Schafer's father, real estate entrepreneur Malcolm. Meanwhile, Joe is dismissed from the Navy for mounting Steve's rescue and kidnaps Yakuza boss Hiro Noshimuri before he can flee to Japan in an attempt to identify the mysterious Shelburne whom Wo Fat clearly fears.

Steve is also wondering about Joe when the son of Yakuza man he grabbed is wondering where his father is.

Meanwhile Steve is torn between his loyalty to killer-targeted former SEALs commander Joe and his refusal to explain the truth about Yakuza Adam Noshimuri's father Hiro's alleged murder and the link to the mysterious Shelburn.

The Chinese illegal firework provider points to a recluse, setting the duo on a chase for several criminals, with another corpse, revolving around fraud and frustration involving Bobby's favorite charity, a home for abused children, like he once was.

He is in contact with the convicted man, whom he believes innocent except of the last kill, and from jail tips off Danny's team to go after the main killer, who may not be a copycat, as believes the retired former case detective. As they realize the link between victims is giving up babies for adoption, the trail leads to the abandonment site, the church of deacon MacKenna, who is arrested after blood is found on the parish truck. Max remains with the church caretaker while Danny questions the deacon.

Although they get the better of the Balkanic fiends, the hemorrhagic killer virus leaves the island to LAX and the bacteriology mastermind remains at large.

Danny finally gets a call from Steve, whose Interpol operation in Japan resulted in Wo fat's arrest for extradition by secret airplane, but it's infiltrated and forced to crash-land. In Hawai, Danny's team deals with the murder of a CIA agent, but the spy agency not only refuses cooperation under the secretive denial policy, the agent who contacts Danny proves a trap. BOth ends have a strong Yakuza connection, and their missing/killed Hawaian chief's son and heir Adam Noshimuri, who convinced Kono to bet turning the family firm genuinely legitimate, became her lover, but gives highest priority to avenging his father. Steve must team up with his captive against a Yakuza death squad.

Ua Hala (Death in the Family)

Now that McGarret is finally back, his mentor Joe White re-emerges and offers to take him to the elusive Shelbourne, met with due suspicion. So Joe must tag along in a case that takes priority, the murder of Honolulu police captain Vincent Fryer. The assailant shoots unsuspecting Max--badly wounding him--and is hit but gets away. A joint case history points to jailed dirty cop Frank Delano, who is questioned about a plausible suspect. A wild car chase leads to H5-0's own HQ, where the assailant gets away after exploding a bomb. Camera footage allows identification now, so the team can track down to the vet whose treatment at gunpoint is cruelly rewarded. Meanwhile, Danny decides to fight his ex's custody of Grace now that she plans to move from Hawai'i with her new husband.
