This episode includes building friendships, love, and loss.

Steve's super-bratty sister Mary Ann has to wait, locked in his office with 'babysitters'. Instead of Dana, Dawkins kidnaps her boyfriend Craig Ellers, which turns out to be the fake identity of ex-con Paul Stark. The chase involves more violent crime.

Their greedy development plans were unconditionally opposed by the 'ka-po', Kawika's native Hawaian heritage defense 'militia', including two recently released ex-cons he denounced, and by regular ecologists, including Carlton's thus estranged son Ben, who turns out to be Ian's surprise heir.

In a race against time, 50 discovers his whole drama, involving his daughter, her shot Russian-born mother and a sinister fiend.

The deeper they dig, the dirtier everyone looks. Jailed human trafficker Sang Min holds a trump card, so Danny bids on it.

After realizing the car has occasion to record all security measures, they work out it must be as in other cities where major robberies were committed during major marathon events. One is upcoming on Waikiki, so time presses. Danno provides an observation shelter at his ex's, and makes a better impression, also thanks to Steve's praise.

Chin feels the flames when collared with a radio-controlled explosive device as the governor refuses to negotiate, let alone pay Hesse $10,000,000, ransom in mere hours. The team is reduced to "borrowing" the cash from an underground evidence room. Hesse however has another hellish surprise in store, and reports to an even darker fiend.

Dad McGarrett's toolbox, which Steve kept their old and new evidence concerning his murder and its antecedents in, is stolen. His sister Mary made photographs and even came up with some original ways to approach the case, but she's kidnapped. Evidence leads Five-0 to local business tycoon Hiro Noshimuri who is not only a friend and major campaign contributor of the governor, but also the Hawaian Yakuza branch's chief. Even his own brother Koji, a cop, is sacrificed to counter Steve and Danny closing in, but that can't stop them. In their shadow lurks Wo Fat, who also was behind Chin's set-up.

The team finds that the decapitation is part of an elaborate blackmail to extort $5,000,000 from the victim's rich father-in-law Robert Rovin, with nasty twists.

A tsunami warning is broadcast and all of Oahu is evacuated. However, the chief of the Tsunami Warning Center is missing and McGarrett and Five-0 investigate. However, several things don't add up and soon the team realizes that the warning is a hoax and is being used to cover up a robbery at the police vault. Unfortunately, it could mean the end of Five-0 due to the fact that the target of the thieves is the $28 million that McGarrett "borrowed" $10 million of to save Chin's life.

Steve and Chin must find and rescue Julie Adelman, the former accountant of and key witness against Baja drug cartel baron Aaron Brenner, who arranged two uniformed fake cops to kidnap her and eliminate U.S. Marshall Frank Moore. After a commando style mountain jungle rescue, they must deal with the hard to identify 'cleaner' (backup-killer).

An apparently haphazard group of Springbreaker's rented boat and its captain seem the latest victims of a wave of pirate attacks, which only a female crew member survives, apparently hidden, while a pirate's corpse is left behind. However huge collective ransom is demanded for the youngsters. The team finds the corpse was actually killed before the attack and the earlier, bloodless pirate raids's gang has an alibi. One hostage is slaughtered after his father tries to pay an advance against police advice. The murderous captors demand the surviving crew-girl delivers the full ransom.

When the detective bolts, McGarrett is worried that he's going after the crime boss.
