Episode 1
Who will win the election to be editor of the new school website? Amy is busy canvassing support for Anika. Leah is also in the running, supported by Shannon, and there are also Kathy and Maddie canvassing votes. On the way to school, Ian and his mates are asked for directions to school by someone in a car. Ian points the way, sending the man through the estate - afterwards, Calvin points out that there are roadworks in the way. Shona seems to be coming round to the idea of living at her mum's house, but Lisa tries to discourage her, happy to be at her dad's house. There's a new deputy head, Mr. Devril, to work alongside Mrs. Holmes. While Anika is relying on her detailed list of policies, Leah and Shannon seem to be relying entirely on Leah's good looks. Mr. Devril is shown round the school by Josh and Martin and given a rather lurid account of the things that have gone on in previous years. Josh seems to have a thing for Leah - he keeps watching her campaign video. Kathy finds that her own attempts at getting elected are being seriously undermined by Maddie. Lisa is a bit lonely at school - Tracey's obtained a music scholarship and the male components of the old gang are doing Maths - although Cracker is struggling. Amy gets cross when she sees that Anika has taken a leaf out of Leah's book and made herself look alluring - by contrast, Leah wants to talk about her policies and in doing so falls out with Shannon once again. Claire and Vikki visit the boarded up Arches café, and explain to their new friend, Carl, about wheelchair-bound Ray - the thugs who attacked him are doing ten years inside. Lisa is with sister Shona as she buys trading cards when she is attacked by someone who steals her mobile phone - she falls backwards, getting injured as she hits her head. Mr. Robson sees the attacker run away, and pursues him up above the shops. Mr. Robson falls as the thief jumps over the balcony, cutting his head, then staggering backwards, falls further down in among the rubbish, where he lies unmoving. Clare and Vikki with Carl Fenton who's scrounging for through the rubbish find Mr. Robson lying there...

Episode 2
Speaking on his mobile, Mr. Deverill is smug about finding Grange Hill a cushy number, but then he hears a message on the answer-phone from his co-deputy, Mrs. Holmes, who tells him the Headmaster's had an accident, and she wants him to hold the fort. At home, Maddie's trendy young mum borrows her jacket for an interview - Maddie tells her about her own competition for the web site editor. Lisa in her hospital bed gets visited by her father and Shona, but they row again, Shona saying it would never have happened if they lived in the country with their mum. Mr. Deverill gathers the troops together in the Staff Room, and relays the bad news that Mr. Robson is still unconscious after his fall and Lisa's recovering with a broken arm. Shona goes to school - there's nowhere else for her, with her mum tied up, and her father needing to go to work. Mrs Holmes visits Mr. Robson, and talks to him while he lies apparently unconscious, telling him to please get better soon, then he turns round, evidently awake, and says with a smile: "Margaret, I never knew you cared!" Maddie is intrigued by Martin's little black book - he tells her he uses it to keep phrases handy for his Aspergers condition. Back at school, Mr. Deverill is enjoying his sudden unilateral power, but his happiness is short-lived when Mrs Holmes returns with news that the Headmaster is concussed and has a broken leg, but is on the road to recovery. Then she announces the winner of the web-site editor is Anika. Anika seems a bit full of herself after her success, and she forgets to thank her right hand man, Amy, who goes off in a huff. Lisa's friends have two items on their agenda - to see Lisa in hospital, and to get revenge on the youth who attacked her. Unfortunately, Mr. Deverill catches them trying to leave. Danny has a secret he's keeping from girlfriend Vikki - he's not planning to go to university with her. Shona bunks off back to Maddie's home, and plays with her makeup, envious of her easy going relationship with her mother. Shona talks of the pillow fights she had with Lisa, and Maddie starts one with her, feathers flying everywhere. Her mother returns - "What have I told you about pillow fights?" she asks and then continues - "always use the biggest pillow!" Maddie's mother celebrates getting her job with a quick drink - giving Shona and Maddie some shandy, and then leaving them to go out for a drink with her mates. Maddie pours more lager into Shona's glass - seeming to forget the lemonade part of the mixture. It's not long before Shona's distinctly the worse for drink, and throws up behind the settee to Maddie's horror. When Shona is returned to her father, Mr. West realises it is the last straw - Shona will only be right again if she goes to stay with her mother - and perhaps Lisa ought to go too...

Episode 3
Mr. Jones visits the Headmaster in hospital with a bunch of grapes (which he eats himself). Mr. Robson claims not to recognize him - but perhaps he just doesn't want to be bothered with the responsibilities of school from his comfortable bed. Curious about the father she never knew, Amy roots through her mother's personal letters. Her detective work reveals her father was part of an 80's pop group, Zoo 22. Leah comes in with glasses - so she will be taken more seriously than when she wore contact lenses. The Deostini astrology trading cards hobby spreads throughout the girls. Maddie has an audience with Mrs. Holmes - Maddie learns that Shona has switched schools. Kathy raises the idea of sending her a farewell card, but Maddie thinks it a waste of time. Cracker calls for Lisa before school, but finds no response from the house. Briony and Clare drum up interest in lunchtime step-aerobics. Cracker and Tom volunteer, and Josh persuades Martin to have a go. Matt feels self-conscious after his testicular cancer operation. While the aerobics session gets underway, with both Martin and Josh finding themselves hopeless, Amy uses the Internet to find some clues about her father's pop group, using items she found in her mother's box. Cracker volunteers to help with Carl's new club venture - it seems all the junk items he's been collecting are to decorate the place. Matthew tells his friends because he's nervous about a checkup coming up. Martin is left on his own (his preference) to work on the website which he crafts into shape. At home, Amy overhears her mother say something strange to Anika's mother who's having tea - that "she's got to go". The staff celebrate the new deputy's arrival at the pub. Maddie finds her mother has brought home her new workmates for a drink. She finds herself left on her own again, as they all trot out for a drink. At her house, Lisa's close to tears - terrified when she hears someone at the front door. It's just her dad - she pulls herself together and puts on a brave face. Unpeturbed by the continuing absence of her mother, Maddie switches on the TV and pours herself a Bailey's. Leaving the other staff behind, Mr. Jones goes back to school to have a play with the school website - he clicks a few controls on the screen with a false confidence, and the blue screen of death appears - Martin's work on the website all gone!

Episode 4
Intent on finding the father she never knew, Amy makes a call in a phone box, but she hangs up when a man replies. Calvin's taken a whole load of his sister's Deostini's collectable cards in order for he and Darren to make a quick profit selling them to the trading card addicts at school. Max is furious to find the website defunct, blaming Martin, while the real culprit - PE teacher Mr. Jones has called in sick. Upset, and in no mood to listen to Kathy, Martin runs off. Carl tells the other sixth formers that his club is ready for a little private try-out. Maddie finds Martin's little black book on a bench, and gleefully pockets it. Tom, Cracker and Matt go to Lisa's house, curious as to her continued absence, but get no answer. Inside, Lisa sits on the floor, terrified, clutching her head in her hands. In English, Maddie passes round a piece of paper alluding to Matt's condition. Matt hears giggles as people go past: his friends say he is paranoid, but then Maddie makes a telling comment about him being "half a man". In a distressed state, he bumps into Briony, and she talks calmly to him about the operation. Miss Carver has a chat with Cracker, initially annoyed at his frequent absences. He confides that he's has enough of school, but she cautions that it would be foolish to leave without proper qualifications. Vikki is pleased to get a place at University, but Danny dampens her joy by revealing that he's decided he's not going to Uni. It's the last straw for to find out that Carl knew of his plans before she did, and she storms off. Amy writes a letter to her ex-pop group member father, saying that she'd like to meet him. Leah, then Josh and Kathy, boost Martin's confidence telling him that they need him for the website work - that they are friends. Martin rejoins their efforts, and traces the user who crashed the system - Mr. Jones. Amy is surprised when her mother dishes up a healthy meal of salad and baked potato. Her mother has a serious look on her face - she tells Amy that she's going into hospital for a hysterectomy. Miss Carver visits Mr. Robson in hospital. They reminisce about old times - how Cracker, now itching to leave school, once dressed up as Mrs. Holmes for a prank. Carl shows someone around the club and explains that he goes to Grange Hill - has he heard of it? The other person turns around - Keiron 'Ozzy' Osbourne nods with a grin - oh yes, he's heard of it...

Episode 5
Amy packs her bags to stay with Anika while her mum goes into hospital. She finds Anika's mother a little more strict than she's used to. After her harsh words, Vikki's ready for a reconciliation with Danny, but he tells her she was right to end the relationship. Mr. Hankin returns with a new skill evident - cookery. Mrs. Holmes finds Mr. Deverill undermining her - introducing new computer software while she was away, and she takes it out on her class somewhat. Mr. Jones awkwardly comes clean to Anika and Leah about having deleted the website - she gets him to agree that the staff logon won't be used any more - in return for keeping quiet about his disastrous online meddling. Shannon gives a ominous warning to Darren and Calvin in their Deostini collectible card selling - they are messing with things they don't understand. Carl, Vikki, Briony and Clare head off to Nathan's house, but it will be a surprise, since Briony couldn't reach Nathan on the phone. Vikki is going for her interview for possible place on her P.E. course. Maddie delightedly reads extracts from Martin's little black book - he divulges personal information which suggest he's got the hots for Leah. Finally Martin grabs his book back. Josh has a reassuring chat with Martin, explaining that his lustings after Leah aren't his Asberger's condition, but normal in any teenager. Maddie's mother collects her after school, intent on spending a night in with her daughter. To Josh's and Kathy's delight, Suzy Gilks calls her daughter "Madonna" - so the truth is out about what Maddie actually stands for! Clare and her friends reach Nathan's digs and find him surrounded by females. They go out to a club and meet Nathan's friends, including sports student Sarah, whose information that the college only interviews borderline cases is a bit worrying to Vikki. An evening with her mother for Maddie consists of eating cheese nibbles and drinking wine while they watch a late night movie. At the club, Vikki gets drunk, and Clare gets fed up that Carl seems to know all the girls. It seems that Nathan has a bit of a secret that will be a shock to Briony - he's seeing Shirley, a girl at Uni - she tells him that it's not fair, as she's dumped her previous boyfriend for him. Vikki gets through to Danny, but the early break in the phone connection makes it seem like she's phoned up to say they should both move on rather than her real intention of getting back together.

Episode 6
Lisa's dad realizes that he's going to need help getting Lisa over her post-attack nerves and calls the school. Calvin and Darren start their new venture using the website to promote their Deostini card selling. Vikki, still hungover from her night at the club, heads off for her university placement interview for Sports Science. She is shocked to discover the interviewer is the fit bloke at the table she tried to chat up. Kathy is astounded when Maddie asks her for tea - Maddie's mother, Suzie, having the false idea from their brief encounter that they are friends. Darren's card trading almost gets the attention of eagle-eyed Mr. Deverill, but he is distracted by a football from Ian - or Ben - it's not clear who. Clare is out with Carl and Nathan's flatmate who winds her up with her attitude of appearing to take her university education for granted - Clare tells her she has it easy, but is told that she doesn't look too badly off either. Mr. Deverill visits Mr. Robson, followed by Miss Carver. Amy confides in Spencer of her worries with her mother having her operation that day. After a successful interview, Vikki goes back to Nathan's flat and is shocked when she catches him in the arms of Shirley. She tells him he's got to tell Briony - but then she arrives too, learns the truth and storms off. Anika finds a surprise article for the web site - "No means No" - evidently from Leah about her experiences with Tom - she gets approval from Miss Fraser, but without specifically telling her what it is. Mrs. Holmes is surprised when the supply teacher turns up - it's her son Michael. Although he's not very successful in controlling his class, he does notice and report the excessive sleepiness of Calvin. Maddie finds that Josh has put an old smelly kipper in her bag in Chemistry - she storms off with everyone laughing - but is that a touch of compassion in Kathy's face as Maddie is ridiculed? Matt bumps into Ozzie near the shops and gets his business card promoting the new club - "The Hub." At home, Maddie's mum has left a message on the answer phone, expecting her to be with "friend" Kathy - but she's on her own. Tears come to Maddie's eyes, then in a moment of frustration, she lobs her wine glass at the wall. Tom, Matt and Cracker are impressed by Ozzie's club and play a few poker games; Cracker is particularly taken by the idea of working there. The Sixth Formers head back, Clare shooting her mouth off again about Briony and Nathan's relationship being doomed because of "Mixed Race": Carl points out that he himself is of mixed race decent. Anika's mother has bad news for Anika, but she insists that Amy is not told - she should be told by her own mother...

Episode 7
Maddie is uncomfortable to find that her mother's brought a man home with her the night before - evidently not for the first time. Anika is also uncomfortable - she's holding back a secret from Amy. Mrs. Holmes visits the recovering Headmaster in hospital to work through the impending launch of the web site. Vikki, having returned from her trip away, talks to Danny, but he's not particularly communicative. In the Staff Room, the occupants look forward to seeing the web-site, with a special visit by a school governor, while Mrs. Holmes is stuck, fuming, in traffic. As the web-site comes on-line, there's an unexpected interest from the girls - something to do with Darren and Calvin's Desteeni collectible cards page they have set up. One of the first things that is encountered on the website is the unexpectedly frank essay by "Anonymous 15 Year Old" - Leah of course - about her first (and unwanted) sexual experience. Mr. Deverill is furious with Anika - and annoyed at the sudden buzzing of mobile phones as Deostini text messages fly around the place. Unfortunately, Calvin's come to school with no new cards - and he and Darren are inundated with orders that they can't fill, while Shannon cheerfully reports on their location to Mr. Deverill with a suggestion that they are up to no good. He disperses the busy scene of girls clamouring for cards, and, jumping to conclusions, asks them about the drugs that they are peddling. Anika bravely defends the "No Means No" web-site article, but it seems a lost cause with complaints coming in from parents and governors. At the club, Ozzie suggests he gets a "lackey" in so he can do some more interesting work - he's told he can, but either way the back room needs cleaning up. Calvin and Darren are speechless when Mr. Deverill hands them letters of exclusion - he can't prove the drugs, but the Deostini trading is enough. After breaking off with Nathan, Briony seems to be in a mood of forced cheerfulness - she tears up photos of Nathan. The staff are divided over the issue of the kids' free rein over the web page: the offending article is removed. Anika complains she was in control - but Mr. Deverill illustrates that she wasn't by pointing out the Deostini adverts put in secretly by Darren and Calvin. As school comes to an end, blame flies around between those involved in the website, and through all that Amy gets the phone call she's been waiting for from her mother, if she can hear through the noise, and isn't stopped from using it by Mrs. Holmes. Amy's not in a fit state to be disciplined - she runs off, while Anika defends her from an angry Mrs. Holmes and Mr. Deverill. Anika shouts that they don't understand - Amy's mother is very sick after her hysterectomy - and there are complications... Later, in the darkness, a mystery figure makes an announcement on the web page - "Mrs. Holmes is a Liar and a Bully" it says. Amy arrives at her mother's bedside, outside the curtain. She pauses, listening to her mother talk to the nurse. She hears the word "cancer", and recoils in shock. The nurse realizes she is there, and pulls back the curtain. Amy approaches her mother and cries in her arms.
Episode 8
The "Mrs Holmes is a liar and a bully" web page entry causes a storm - especially with photocopied printouts posted around the school - but who did it? Mrs. Holmes unceremoniously turns off the computers and makes the room out of bounds. She is hurt by the accusations. Anika finds that Amy is furious with her for knowing about her mother's illness first. Cracker's about to knock on the Staff Room door, but overhears part of the conversation between Miss Carver and Miss Fraser about him. What he hears makes him think that Miss Carver doesn't rate his abilities - although when he's out of earshot she goes on to say she thinks he has a good brain on him. Mrs Holmes finds herself growing in unpopularity - even to the extent of finding petitions to have her sacked going up on noticeboards. Ian picks up a can near some graffiti, and finds that Mr. Deverill is blaming him for creating it. The new deputy head suggests that staff come to him rather than Mrs. Holmes, because of the pressure she appears to be under. Bowing to pressure, Mr. Deverill gives the web site a second chance - Kathy gets special instructions that she and Martin are to determine who posted the "Bully" accusation and to report back to him. Mrs. Holmes gets bad news from Mr. Robson - he's got to rest at home once he's out of hospital. Josh talks about his impending "Bar Mitzvah" - Maddie says she would come if it was taking place in a real bar. Mrs. Holmes looks very confused when she encounters Lisa's dad, and Anika's mother - about various things about which she was expected to handle, but didn't. After making up a story about a hot date, Danny confesses it's just a date stacking shelves, and kisses Vikki in the corridor - they are reunited! The Sixth Formers take a look at the new club, and are impressed by Carl's modern art sculptures that decorate the place. Briony seems keen to get to know Matt better: before long they are kissing across the table. Carl introduces Vikki to who he refers to as "The Boss" - she is shocked to see that it is Ozzy - she's not pleased, remembering the trouble he gave Danny the previous year. Meanwhile in the shadows lurks the real boss, amused at Ozzy and Vikki's discussion. There's someone else at the club - Maddie's mum Susie. At Matt's table, Cracker sits down. He tells his friend that he's been offered a job working at the club, and has decided to take it. Michael is cross with his mother - Mrs. Holmes - for forgetting the dinner arranged with her and his wife to be Miss Fraser. She looks confused as he tells her that the wedding is definitely on, and she'd better get used to the idea...

Episode 9
Mr. Deverill implements his Positive Discipline regime - Anika is the first to receive black marks for her bad attitude. Josh is looking forward to his Bar Mitzvah and hands out invites. The Staff (except Mr. Deverill) are pleased to see Mr. Robson hobble in for a flying visit. Miss Carver is disturbed to find Cracker's lost essay after having convinced herself that he was lying when he previously said he'd handed it in to Mr. Deverill. She approaches him, but learns that he's leaving school that very moment to start work at the club. Ian bends Mr. Jones's ear about Mr. Deverill's false accusation about creating graffiti saying that with an army scholarship imminent, and kind of trouble is the last thing he needs. Both Kathy and Anika secretly ask Martin to tell them first when he traces who created the "bully" web page entry. In science, Maddie puts down Josh's claim to becoming a man. Fresh from school, Cracker starts his career at the club, heartened by Ozzie's positive attitude. Ian is called once again before Mr. Deverill finding his father is present too, and resignedly finds that his father takes Deverill's side. When Vikki finds that Danny just shrugs off the situation of Ozzie working near the school she approaches Mr. Hankin, but he's also reluctant to get involved. Anika, Mr. Deverill and Kathy gather around the computer as Martin operates it, unwilling to reveal the information he's found, because of the conflicting loyalties. In the end, the Deputy Head scrolls up the screen, and it appears Anika herself was the culprit - but she denies it. Miss Carver accompanies Mr. Robson home after his impromptu visit - they are relaxed and happy in each other's company. Maddie's mum comes to school to pick up her daughter, but Maddie's hurt after her mother's complete absence the night before. Suzy takes Maddie to the club to meet the boss - her boyfriend, Chris. She explains that she's got the sack from her office job, but is going to work at the club. When her mother's away, but watched by Chris, Maddie pours some of her mother's alcoholic drink into her own. Lisa, still nervous from her attack weeks ago, finds old friends waiting in her living room. Tom explains to Lisa how it's not the same with her absent - Cracker's left - there's just himself and Matt. Against her better judgement, they get her to go out down the shops with them. At the club, Chris sets Ozzy a challenge to prove his worth - he's to win away Vikki's heart from Danny. Lisa walks out of her house with Tom and Matt. She takes a step... but it's too much, she can't face it, turning back and crying on Tom's shoulder...

Episode 10
Amy's mother has returned home, but Amy still frets about the medications and further tests that are needed. Clare is congratulated by her father as she leaves her posh home - she's won a place at law school. Preparing for school, Maddie tops up her bottle of orange juice with neat vodka. Matt and Tom alert the reclusive Lisa to come to the window while they use humourous placards to urge her out of her house. They are almost successful, but a look from a passerby is enough to make her run back inside. Life at home for Mr. Robson is laid back, listening to Schubert, and reading the papers, and taking up gardening as a hobby. Mr. Deverill makes a terse announcement about the web site, appointing Amy and Leah, and sacking Anika. Leah speaks up - claiming to have made the notice about Mrs. Holmes being a bully for which Anika was blamed. Anika and Amy support Leah, and refuse to be budged, making an impromptu protest with gags over their mouths. A few cruel words by Mr. Deverill about her mother forces Amy to stop and Leah and Anika are shown the "Pupil Correction Facility" - a cupboard for them to stay in and reflect on life. In Michael Barton's class, Ian once again finds himself in the firing line after Max mis-lobs a ball of paper. Josh and Kathy get prepared to start work in the computer room - then a Nazi swastika comes off the printer - Josh shrugs it off as a practical joke. At the club, Tom and Matt ask Cracker if he has any ideas for budging Lisa out of the house. Ozzy tells Matt he'll get a discount at expensive Bar-X when he learns that he's going there with Briony, Vikki (celebrating her conditional university place) and Danny. School ends and Leah and Anika are let out of the cupboard. As they walk away, Mrs. Holmes overhears herself be called traitor to the school. Lisa nervously answers her front door - to her surprise it's an old friend - wheelchair-bound Ray, former proprietor of the Arches café, sent by Cracker. He gives a reassuring pep talk, and tells Lisa that after his attack, he went to the police and saw that the assailants received their just desserts. At the club, the boss gives Carl a decorating job - Claire is shocked that he so readily gives up his planned charity workshop. Briony and Matt with Vikki and Danny sit down at Bar-X, disturbed by the high prices. Matt's mention of "Chris" in order to get a 50% discount rings no bell with the restaurant's owner. While Amy sits beside her sleeping mother, fretting about her health, she notices that a letter has arrived for her - it's from "Chaz", her father who she's been tracking down, telling her that he'll be at a record fair if she can get there and wants to talk. At Bar-X, there's still no news as to if Chris's name will pull any strings, but then Ozzy arrives. He makes a hollow apology to Danny for former disputes, and points out that Chris is over at another table, and will sort their discount out. Ozzy's presence is too much - Danny leaves the table, and Vikki follows. Ozzy smiles - all part of his plan to win over Vikki. Maddie's made friends with an older girl, wearing make-up to look older - and drinks with her on a balcony's edge over the shops. Her vision blurs, and she almost falls over the edge...

Episode 11
Suzy wants to give daughter Maddie the best party - but just who are her friends? Mr. Deverill raises the question of who sent the anti-semitic Nazi flag to Josh - but he'd have preferred to have just laughed it off, rather than bringing it to everyone's attention. Ray persuades Lisa to call the police, but then there's the matter of walking to the police station. Lisa starts to push the wheelchair out into the street - Ray tells her that he needs her, just as she needs him. She's fine until she sees someone in a baseball cap - "it's him," she says to Ray, meaning the mugger, then "he" takes off "his" cap, and it's a girl. Amy discusses the impending possibility of at last meeting her father with Anika. Kathy broaches the idea of interviewing Michael for the web site - but her glimpse of him kissing Miss Fraser brings the prospect of a much more interesting article. Mrs. Holmes tries to help her son, gently offering advice in class control - he tells her to stop smothering him. Having a bit of a laugh with her pupils, Miss Fraser reveals that she and Michael are engaged - Mrs. Holmes overhears and gives her a talking to about discussing her private life in public. Kathy isn't pleased to learn her scoop about Miss Fraser and Mr. Barton is now worthless. In the following class, Miss Fraser's beau, Michael Barton doesn't like the implications his class make about where he and Miss Fraser secretly meet. Once again, Mr. Barton unfairly picks out Ian as a trouble maker. Leah defends Ian, and Shannon makes a sarcastic comment about her being so hard. A moment later, and the two former best friends are fighting. They are all ejected from class, and Mr. Deverill introduces them to a new concept - Saturday detention! In Science, Martin matter-of-factly tells Maddie she smells, she takes it out on Josh, screwing up his Bar Mitzvah notes - she is ejected from the class too and also suffers the ignominy of Saturday Detention. Danny and Vikki once again argue because of the time Vikki is spending on school work, and the business of her going to university while he won't be rears its ugly head. As Danny storms off, Vikki gets a mystery phone message with a number to ring - it's the club. School comes to an and, and Darren gives Amy a complete set of Deostini cards to bring her luck when, or if, she decides to go and see her father. At the club, Cracker is pleased to have done a job for the boss - but just what kind of package has he been delivering that earns a tip of twenty quid? Ray rolls in - accompanied by Lisa: her friends are delighted to see her. Vikki arrives and ticks off Ozzy for the text message. When she's cooled down a bit, he offers another apology, saying that she and her friends can come round for free drinks at the club. Mrs. Holmes is shocked to find Mr. Deverill putting his files in the Head's office. She speaks her mind about how he's undermining her position - but he's a few home truths of his own about her, how even her son has no confidence in her any more. Miss Carver goes for a meal at Mr. Robson's house - he has spent a long time preparing the meal. Out near the shops, Martin catches Maddie drinking with her older friend on the steps - they run after him. When they catch up with him, Maddie blames him for getting the detention, and insists Martin must come too - he protests he'll miss the Bar Mitzvah. "Be there, or you're dead," threatens Maddie's friend...

Episode 12
It's Saturday morning - Josh is anxious to find no sign of Martin on the day of his Bar Mitzvah - he's currently in detention - though only there through being coerced by Maddie who considers her own detention to be his fault. Mr. Deverill enters the "Breakfast club" detention room, with Ian, Shannon (with her Deostini cards), Maddie (doing an Ally Sheedy impression), Leah and Martin. Ian is in a bitter, aggressive, mood, slamming the door shut, and standing on the desk while Mr. Deverill adds on more and more detentions - and then something he takes notice of - a banning from the football final. Vikki wakes up, and recalls the night before at the club. In her hand is a wrist-based heart monitor. She remembers how Briony had lied to Matt about not going out, and was found out when Matt turned up there. She recalls her first refusal of Ozzie's gift of the electronic heart rate monitor. Amy gets her mother dressed up nicely for her trip to the record fair, without telling her she's expecting to see her father for the first time. In the detention room, Maddie feels sick - the others smell the booze on her clothes. Vikki looks at her LCD exercise monitor, and recalls more of the previous night - how Briony came onto Tom, while he, loyal to Matt, rejected her outright. Josh is having last minute worries about the Bar Mitzvah - he's worried about how others will see him - memories of receiving the swastika foremost in his mind. As Kathy arrives, Josh runs off, determined not to go ahead with the ceremony. At the record fair, Amy is dismayed not to see anyone at "Chaz's records" - and her mum has a worrying twinge of pain which she shrugs off. Amy was right though, her mother does enjoy reminiscing as she sees all the albums of bands she liked in her youth - then there's a surprise for her as Charles - the man who Amy is convinced is her father - appears behind her. At school, the entire detention "brat pack" lead Maddie to the loos, and then Ian gives Deverill the run around while the others return to class. Mr. Deverill finally corners him, and suggests that he knows Ian's future - he'll be flipping burgers after he leaves school. Kathy tells Josh a bit of her life - her parents were from different sides in Northern Ireland - they came to England to get away from the prejudices there. In true "Breakfast Club" style, it's time for the detention group to talk about their feelings. Shannon explains why she made up stories: she couldn't bear being invisible, just another unnoticed face. Maddie for her part demonstrates lying to Martin: she tells him, meaning the opposite, that she loves having an unpredictable mother, loves getting drunk, that Josh really hates Martin, that she loves being hated by everyone. Finally, Martin gets it - "I'm an elephant!" he exclaims to demonstrate that he understands lying - and realizes that Maddie means that Josh does like him. When it comes to Ian, he suggests he has no dark secret - but there's the matter of why Mr. Deverill seems to hate him so much. As they return to their desks, Shannon finds she's got a treasured Deostini card, the Golden Dragon - a friendship card. She offers it to Leah to repair their broken friendship, but Leah still won't accept the olive branch. The detention ends - essays are handed in, but Mr. Deverill tears up Ian's without looking at it. At the club (as Vikki remembers it the following day) Vikki and Ozzy seem to be getting on well, and Clare leaves dropping her wallet. Carl takes it round to her, using the address inside - astonished by the majesty of the house she lives in. As Josh gets ready for his Bar Mitzvah, encouraged by Kathy's heart to heart, he's pleased to see the tardy Martin arrive too. At the record fair, Amy is delighted that Charles is getting on so well with her mother - but then she realizes from what they are saying that he was never her father at all - just a friend from those times. Then, she is horrified when her mother collapses in pain, dropping onto the floor. Vikki sits outside a pub, recalling more of the night before - of Ozzy's continuing efforts to get on her good side, saying the right thing, complimenting her on her ability to make up her own mind. It seems he's going to win the task Chris has set him - he kisses her, then she pulls away and walks off. Vikki's phone rings, to bring her back to the doubtful present...

Episode 13
It's Maddie's birthday and her mother's brought in party food for "all her mates". At school, Lisa makes her first appearance since her attack. Mr. Deverill's Pupil Reflection Facility, a dark place with no windows doesn't go down well with all members of staff. Mr. Jones is no mood to listen to Ian's protestations about his football ban from Mr. Deverill, and Ian storms off, saying "you're all the same". Amy visits hospital and finds Chaz already there - he tells her that he has kids of his own, two girls who now live in Canada. When her mother returns to her bed with a kindly nurse, Amy learns she's a Macmillan nurse. Lisa's very interested in Tom and the mystery girl who he was talking to at the club - Matt however can't seem to forgive Tom for Briony's flirting with him - and now she seems to be at it again with someone else. Maddie invites older friend Tina round for her birthday, getting her to bring some friends and afterwards dumps her mum's nicely printed birthday party invitations in the bin. Martin sees her, and retrieves them when she's out of sight. On the football pitch, Max and Ben try to talk Ian round to eating humble pie - making an apology to get back on the team. Vikki gets a single red rose delivered from Ozzy, she hides it just in time as Danny makes a heartfelt apology to her. She covers her fears as Danny suggests they go to the club to cock a snoot at Ozzy. Leah catches Briony throwing up in the loos - Briony shrugs it off as something she ate. Ian's tentative apology to Mr. Deverill surprisingly seems to work - he's back on the team. Carl liaises with Claire to give a talk with her to underprivileged kids - his manner is a bit strange as he recalls the enormous well-to-do house that he saw that she lived in. As they leave school, Martin reveals his discovery about Maddie to Kathy and Josh. At home, Maddie's mum's prepared a great birthday spread, but then there's a call from Chris at the club, and she's off leaving Maddie alone in her pretty party dress. As Mr. Hankin prepares to go to Mr. Robson's house along with the other staff for a surprise announcement, he finds Mrs. Holmes sitting in a disconsolate state - almost in a trance. Lisa watches Tom leave school, he embraces his new girlfriend, and she frowns. There's a ring at Maddie's doorbell - it's Tina and another girl. Maddie indicates the booze she's put on the fridge - "told you we wouldn't have jelly," she says. Chaz drives Amy and her mother out to a tranquil spot and leaves them to talk. Mrs. Davenport confides in her daughter - the cancer hasn't gone away, despite the operation - it was caught too late. They only have a few weeks left together... At Mr. Robson's house, Miss Carver is with the Head, and he is about to say something important, but the other staff arrive before he can spit it out. When they do arrive his information shocks them - he's decided to resign! Mr. Deverill smiles triumphantly - no doubt in his mind who the next Head will be. At the club, Vikki claims the rose came from Matt for Briony, and when alone with Ozzy puts him straight - but he's not going to give up that easily. Things aren't going well at Maddie's house - as she gets drunk, her "friends" pick fault with her childish bag, a present from her mother. After a drinking game Maddie is violently sick behind the sofa, while Tina scrawls graffiti over the walls, throws food around, and uses Maddie's camera to photograph the scene. Finally Tina steals Maddie's shoes, and departs with her friend. Meanwhile, Kathy, Josh and Martin have decided to call round Maddie's but find the place has been trashed. As they come in, they are immediately followed by Suzy who finds her daughter laid out stone drunk, covered in party food, and with "loser" written across her forehead...

Episode 14
Mr. Robson tells Miss Carver that he wants her to come with him on the trip he's planned - she declines the offer. Carl and Claire give a lecture to the kids on the estate, intending to show how someone from their background can do well for themselves and demonstrating Carl's modern art made from everyday objects. Neither can control the disinterested youths. Claire hands out some notes, but the belligerent kids just screw up the paper and toss it aside. Finally Carl gets their interest by talking about money. Then, to Claire's horror, he points out that although making art can bring in money, it's nothing to the money that Claire's father earns as a barrister. Maddie spends the day at home with a hangover - her mother cottons on to her secret vodka in a water bottle trick and tells her they are going to the doctor. The doctor, though, points the finger at Maddie's mum for leaving alcohol around. It's time for the football match and Ian lines up for the coach. Then, Mr. Deverill appears, and claims to know nothing about Ian's reinstatement on the team - Ian is on litter duty instead. Amy's mother has come to an agreement with Chaz - he is to become her guardian until she's sixteen. She's a bit confused as to why he'd want to stay - he explains that he's made a mess of his life until now and wants to do the right thing. Leah passes on her account of seeing Briony being sick - she's witnessed it twice now. Danny tells Vikki he intends to sell his motorbike and buy a car ready for when she goes to university. Meanwhile, Ozzy has her phone, left behind at the club, and uses it to call her mother in order to find out where she'd likely be. Meanwhile, Ian good humouredly bins all the playground rubbish, and deposits the contents of the bin bag outside Mr. Deverill's office. Ozzy finds Vikki, and talks to her as they walk along. Before the match starts, the opposition team give a warning to Max and Ben about Mr. Deverill - they know him by a different name, Wilcox. Mr. Barton tells Ian to clear up the rubbish he's dumped outside Mr. Deverill's office, but he refuses, and when Miss Fraser appears to check on the rowdy class, Ian calmly walks out. Vikki finishes her walk with Ozzy - she gives him a kiss on the cheek - he seems to have wormed his way into her affections. Lisa is cross with Tom - she wants to know just who the blonde girl is he's been seen with, and how come he's wearing such expensive clothes. He gives in and reveals that he's found part time work as a model. Anika hangs up the phone - she tells her friends that Amy's mother is dying, and that they need to do something for her. Outside, the staff try to stop Ian as he blatantly graffiti's a message aimed at Mr. Deverill - "Deverill is a Nazi". Mr. Barton is ineffective against Ian, and then Mr. Deverill appears on the scene, and takes Ian to the Pupil Reflection Room. Inside Ian tells Deverill that he'll soon be away from school, away from Nazi's like him, and then the teacher strikes him across the face. Realizing he's gone to far, Mr. Deverill suggests Ian keeps quiet - or his potential army career will be over before it's begun...

Episode 15
Miss Fraser and Mr. Barton hold a barbecue - Mr. Robson and Ray in his wheelchair are the first to arrive. Dai Jones turns up with a ridiculous hat with corks dangling from it. Anika, Calvin, Darren and Spencer head off to see Amy's mother armed with various gifts and intending to make a meal. They are extremely uncomfortable - especially Calvin. Lisa has accompanied Tom to his modelling assignment. At home, Ian tells his father about Mr. Deverill striking him, but his claim is laughed off. Jo, the cancer nurse, gives some reassuring words about Amy's mother last moments - her breathing will get shallower, her hands colder... Spencer cooks the meal, and Darren makes a very weird flavoured ice cream. Afterwards, Amy's mother complements the chef, and Chaz puts some music on - making them think he's going to put on some old fashioned stuff from his era. Then there's a surprise visitor in the form of Miss Carver who brings some aromatherapy oils as a present. Tom's modelling assignment comes to an end, and Lisa's father pokes his head round the door. Zoe, who's in charge of the shoot, mistakes him for the pizza delivery man - then apologizes realizing her mistake. Lisa's dad suggests that it's not a bad idea - asking along Zoe too. Lisa is mortally embarrassed at her father making moves on Zoe, although she is too busy for the moment. Alone with Amy's mother, Calvin speaks to the sleeping Mrs. Davenport, telling her that they always liked coming to her flat. Amy stands over her mother. She awakens, and says "When you grow up, and have a family of your own, and all this seems a long way away, you'll miss me - you'll remember I love you with all my heart." At the barbecue, Miss Carver finally turns up, and Mr. Hankin talks to Mr. Barton about his mother, Mrs. Holmes. Meanwhile, the Australian babes that Mr. Jones has been chatting up grow tired of him, and fool him into putting a paper bag over his head - while they sneak off. Michael Barton arrives at his mother's house - some sixth sense made him return there. He finds her in a heavily depressed state, and asks her what's wrong - "everything," she replies. Mrs. Holmes confides in Michael, telling him she can't do her job any more, and without that, she has nothing else. He reassures her that he's there for her now, regardless of the lost years. Vikki meets Ozzy at the park - they kiss. Amy holds her mother's hand and tells her she'll do everything right, and then she lights an aromatherapy candle. Chaz recounts a story about his time with the band, and afterwards Amy notices her mother's breathing has stopped... Amy does the washing up - Chaz tells her it can wait, but Amy tells him that her mother didn't like leaving the washing up, and she dutifully and silently scrubs the pots and pans...

Episode 16
Ben and Max greet Mr. Robson at the school gates - he tells them he's interviewing for his replacement. Enthusiastically, he suggests that as they are short of teachers, he'll do a stint. Kathy asks Tom to sign the page in a glossy mag where he's modelled some clothes - then a flood of other admirers crowd round him, to Lisa's amusement. Mr. Robson fires some interest in History by getting Year 8 to form a human map of Africa, to demonstrate its colonial past. Vikki continues to be wooed by Ozzy - who's merely meeting the club boss's challenge - and tells Danny that she wants to break up with him because she want's to be alone. Kathy asks Tom for a web-site interview, but she's too starry eyed at being in his presence to actually write anything down. Martin supports Max and Ben's information that Mr. Deverill worked for the private school previously, under a different name, Wilcox, by saying that he remembers Mr. Deverill saying as much when he was first showed round Grange Hill. Martin searches the other school's website and finds photographic proof that Deverill is Wilcox. Maddie has an unpleasant encounter with Tina and her friend, who gives her a photo taken at her unpleasant birthday party. Matt talks to Leah about Briony's sickness - he forwards the theory that she might by pregnant - by him. She shocks him by mentioning that she's had enough of Grange Hill - it's become a different place since Deverill took over, and she plans to leave that very same day. Upset by the photo of her unconscious self, Maddie pulls out the vodka bottle, and glugs it down - then she finds that Mr. Robson is observing her a short distance away. Chaz and Amy return from the funeral. Amy notices the magazine quiz that she and her mother never finished. She cries next to her mother's old armchair. Mr. Robson has a chat with Maddie and learns of her loneliness and her modern mum, and how she's turned to drink to cope. She is surprised he understands - he tells her, that just between the two of them, he's been there himself. Max and Ben infiltrate the private school against whom they played the football match, and find one of the boys on the team. Although it is obvious he knows Deverill, the boy they question refuses to elucidate. They traipse around after him, talking about how Ian has been victimized. Finally, the private school boy capitulates and says that he can't believe that Wilcox (Deverill) is teaching again. He explains that he was hit just like Ian was, and Wilcox sacked. It turns out that the private school also had a Mr. Deverill who left to go travelling - evidently, Mr. Wilcox assumed Deverill's name in order to get a reference. After his day's teaching, Mr. Robson visits Mr. Deverill who seems rather over keen on the Headmaster's departure. Miss Fraser talks to Michael who's realized he needs to spend more time with his mother - their relationship has become soured, and the wedding is off. Tom catches Leah before she leaves - he's learned about her plans from Matt. He says he's learned about superficiality from his modelling experience - she removes her glasses, worn to change people's perceptions of her. Vikki has plans to go to the club to meet Ozzy - Claire puts her foot in it by mentioning the rendezvous to Danny, thinking that's who she intended to see. At the club, Suzy gets told off for refusing to serve Tina because she's underage. Miss Carver knocks on Mr. Robson's door and tells him she's changed her mind - she will go with him to South America. He kisses her. "I was thinking of something more permanent," he tells her. "So was I," she agrees. Ozzy's tete a tete with Vikki at the club is interrupted by the arrival of Danny, who has put two and two together after Claire's conversation. Ozzy tells him he doesn't realize what he had with her, and Danny punches him. Vikki helps up Ozzy, while Danny is ejected from the club. "I'd better go after him," says Vikki. "Don't - people change," explains Ozzy. Then, Chris steps forward and applauds Ozzy for winning the wager. Chris explains that she was just part of a bet they had made, and Ozzy makes a protestation, but it's too late, as she walks away in disbelief. Chris smiles - Ozzy has proved his worth, and can now get properly involved in the business...

Episode 17
Amy bravely returns to school, accompanied by Spencer. Vikki finds Ozzy waiting near the school, and says he loves her - she doesn't believe him. Maddie finds other Year 8's have more embarrassing photos of her in a drunken stupor, but Mr. Robson retrieves them. Briony notices that Matt is following her, but to his surprise her protestations about not being pregnant are more about how he might think she looks grossly fat. Lisa talks to Tom about she doesn't quite fit in since returning to school - he suggests they go out together. Mr. Robson asks Mr. Deverill about Ian Hudson's behaviour. Danny meets Vikki and wishes her good luck for the imminent exam she is taking - it's his last day at Grange Hill, and he'll be going off on his bike. In her examination, Briony looks dazed when she turns over her exam paper. After a while, she walks out of the room. Mr. Robson has a talk alone with Ian Hudson, but mud sticks, and Ian can't persuade the Head to see his side of the story - his army reference will be rescinded. At the club, Chris lets Ozzy see inside the safe - it's packed full of cash - Ozzy's eyes stare at it. Then Chris explains it's worth nothing - it's counterfeit money. Chris tells Ozzy that he needs someone expendable and stupid to do the handling - perhaps someone like Cracker... Mrs. Robson visits Maddie's mum, Suzy. He shows her the party photos that Tina took, and explains that although Suzy is Maddie's best friend - like a big sister - what Maddie really needs is someone who behaves like a mother. As they talk, Tina - wearing Maddie's shoes, stolen at her party, and her friend pick on Maddie once again. She walks a small distance away, and Martin sees her distress. He tells her that since she's always horrible to him, why can't she be horrible to them as well. Cracker turns up for "work" - he's a little doubtful when he's told he'll earn £500 for delivering a package. Ben and Max are determined to dig some dirt on Mr. Deverill and search his office. They are about to give up when Ben notices his wallet - and the various names on the bankcards inside - Deverill and Wilcox. They immediately seek out Ian - but he's missing from the pupil reflection room - he's on the roof! Mr. Jones climbs out of the window and joins him - Ian warns him to keep his distance. Meanwhile, Mr. Deverill shakes hands with one of the governors - he's landed the post of new headmaster at Grange Hill. Ian sits on the edge of the flat roof with Mr. Jones adjacent. The teacher confides that when he was in the Army, it wasn't what he wanted to do - he wanted to teach, but thought it impossible. His words reassure Ian, and the two head back down inside. Lisa, dressed up to the nines, is deeply disappointed to find Tom with Matt - she was hoping for a proper date with Tom, and his words "Remember, you'll always be one of the lads" don't help. Maddie remembers Martin's words, and when Tina is doing PE, she grabs her shoes back from the changing rooms, swapping them for a mismatched pair of old footwear. Tina is not happy. She sees Maddie, with Kathy, Josh and Martin, and tells her that she'll be suffering from Shoe in Mouth disease unless she returns the shoes. Then, Suzy appears, and Josh helpfully tells her that Tina is one of the girls who wrecked her house. Suzy tells her daughter that she's quit the club, as she doesn't like serving under-age kids - she's had some career advice and will get some work elsewhere. Amy returns home, and - just for a moment - forgets recent events: she calls out Mum like she's done a thousand times before, then sees the empty armchair. Mr. Robson prepares to take Ian home - but then Carl appears, offering a venue for his and Miss Carver's wedding. Amy tells Chaz that she misses her mum. He has a surprise for her - a box of presents - not for now, but for special days in her life - passing GCSE's - passing her driving test - setting up a new home. Max and Ben speak to the heavily depressed Ian - but they have good news - they have all the proof they need to expose Deverill...

Episode 18
Ben and Max persuade Martin and Kathy to publish their damning information about Deverill on the web site. To gain access, Kathy asks Mr. Deverill if they can put on an article about him - the new Headmaster. Meanwhile, Carl and Clare get the school hall ready as a surprise reception location for Mr. Robson's wedding. Ozzy, watched by Chris, readies the parcel of counterfeit notes for Cracker to deliver. When his boss has gone, Ozzy does a swap for an identically wrapped box in his bag. Miss Carver prepares to be a bride - Miss Fraser gives her the "something borrowed" - her own wedding shoes, no use now that she's split with Michael. Outside school, Ian and Max have brought in the private school boy who was hit by Deverill in his previous incarnation as Mr. Wilcox. Cracker arrives at the scrap metal yard with his package: he hands it over to some men in a car, and one of them opens it - inside are sheets of blank paper - Cracker gapes at the contents for a moment, then runs for his life. Vikki follows Briony into the toilets when she sees her unwell - when she emerges, Briony drops her bag, and a load of sweets fall out - Vikki looks at Briony questioningly. Things look bleak for Cracker, but as the thugs close on him, Ozzy appears and shouts out "Hold It!". Ozzy makes up a lie that the dummy package was a ploy because Chris believed that the police might be watching proceedings - the handover should take place at the club. When they are on their own, Ozzy recommends Cracker lies low. The wedding over, Carl leads Mr. Robson to a tent-like structure for the intimate reception that they wanted - but then there's a surprise as the material lifts away to reveal a large ensemble of friends. Ian has a nasty surprise ready for Mr. Deverill - he tells him that Kathy wants to know whether to file the new Headmaster's profile under D or W - Deverill or Wilcox! Deverill/Wilcox heads off to the computer lab, just as Kathy finishes uploading a new web page - "Deverill/Wilcox - you decide!" it says. He raises a hand towards Kathy, but Ian and Ben enter, followed by the newly married Mr. Robson. At first, it seems one man's opinion against one boy - but then the former pupil who was victimized at Mr. Wilcox's former school appears from the shadows, and supports Ian's claim. He claims Wilcox was sacked for violent conduct, and any doubts remaining in Mr. Robson's mind evaporate when Wilcox says he should have hit Ian harder. Mr. Wilcox is led into the pupil reflection room until the police arrive - he's not in there for long, the spare set of keys paying dividends. Vikki talks to Matt about Briony, and it's then obvious to her and Matt that Briony has an eating disorder. Outside the school gates, Ozzy hands over some (genuine!) money to Cracker - there'll be no more club for either of them, and Cracker looks longingly at the school. At the club, Chris discovers the package that he expected Cracker to take, and as he opens it, the gang enter, and as Chris makes conciliatory apologies, the police enter behind them. At the reception it's Cracker who points out the obvious to Tom - Lisa fancies him. In the office, Wilcox is determined to erase the evidence: he disables the fire alarm and puts the contents of the files in the bin to start a fire. As they dance, the new Mrs Robson and her husband realize that the foreign trip is off - he'll be needed to sort out the mess at Grange Hill. Outside the office, Mr. Wilcox hears Vikki arguing with Ozzy and hastily mashes up the burnt paper. Ozzy persuades Vikki to go somewhere quieter to talk. Meanwhile, Ian and Ben find that Mr. Wilcox has gone, while inside the office, Mr. Wilcox vacates the place using the window, while behind him, the fire in the waste bin re-ignites, and spreads. On the stairs, Tom sits next to Lisa, awkwardly trying to put in words what he feels - she tells him to shut up, and they kiss. Meanwhile, the fire in the office grows stronger, and spreads until the whole room is ablaze. In another classroom, Briony talks to Matt, explaining that how after Nathan left her, she ate for solace, throwing up afterwards. As Vikki talks to Ozzy, they walk near to where the fire is spreading - it reaches the science lab with its racks of inflammable chemicals and gas cannisters. "All I want is you," says Ozzy. She's not convinced he's really changed, but nevertheless, they kiss. Alerted to Wilcox's absence, Mr. Robson marches through the corridors with the dressed-in-white former Miss Carver, and then to their great shock, they discover the fire. The alarm doesn't work, and they rush off to manually alert everyone. Lisa and Tom discover the fire too - and see Ozzy and Vikki. "Run!" screams Lisa, realizing the danger, and the four leg it through the corridor. As they tear off a fireball erupts immediately behind them - the entire wing of the school explodes with fire, the windows smash outwards and inside the inferno rages...
