Episode 1

Episode #18.1

It's an induction day for the new Year Sevens, with some sixth formers along to help. There's a toddler on the loose - Kimberley, Sarah-Jane's sister. Sarah-Jane's older sister, Paula, is supposed to be looking after Kimberley, but is instead giving moral support to the basketball players. Mr. Robson announces a new "house" system - initially named after colours, but with a competition set to come up with better names. The school secretary agrees to look after the toddler, while Mr. Robson shows Sarah Jane around. Dennis has been commissioned to get drinks for the basketball players, but he's waylaid by Mrs Maguire who gets him to buy nappies for Kimberley. The new English teacher, Miss Carver is also shown around. Joe's cosy little chat with Jessica is spoilt when Sarah Jane tells her that she knows Joe because he goes out with her sister. There's a bit of a problem in the canteen - a full set of meals has been prepared, despite there only being one year's worth of kids present. Kimberley wanders off again, and destroys Mr. Brisley's still life fruit display and gets covered in paint. Wayne's pig impressions (aimed at Kevin, who's father is a policeman) annoy Sarah Jane, so she changes tables. In the canteen, Paula finally arrives to claim the rampant Kimberley. Miss Carver asks how sociable the staff are: Mr. Parrott tells her that "a sense of humour is essential", just as he sits down in a chair covered in custard! In the playground, Wayne's constant niggling at Kevin erupts into a short-lived fight. As Mr. Robson argues with the caterer about the excess of meals, one of the pupils who over indulged is sick on her shoes... Then the first proper day begins... Anna seems to be living a feral existence - no food or money in the house, she sets off to school. There's rebellion in the canteen when it seems that the previous day's leftovers are being served up. As Mr. Robson authorizes a refund, a girl tells him that she's just seen a scruffy stranger wandering around the school. He's looking for Anna Wright, and she's very pleased to see him...

Episode #18.2

Home life with Anna Wright has just become complicated. Her big brother, Gordon, is out the nick, remorseful, but temperamental. He just needs some money to get started on a new venture. At school, word has spread about Anna's brother's criminal past, exaggerating his GBH to murder. Kevin can't shake his mother off from delivering him safely outside school. Robyn is determined to find out who Julie's keeping secret: she follows her, but Julie is merely signing up to driving lessons. The winning idea for the House Competition is Jacko's idea - prime ministers of England, but the disinclination to use "Thatcher" as a house name causes the second idea to be used, famous explorers. Gordon, asks Anna to start selling drugs at school - he suggests she starts with the smokers. She approaches them the next day, but chickens out when they challenge her stare. Robyn accompanies Julie to her first driving lesson. They meet Conrad, the dashing young Australian driving instructor, who introduces them to "Sonia" - the name he's given his car. To Julie's disgust, he chats up Robyn, and gets her to sit in the back. In the learner car, Julie scratches the car against a kerb, and Conrad gets her to do some deep breathing, while Robyn has a go with the car. At Anna's home, their mother has returned, a nervous, troubled, woman who would rather be without her errant son. The next morning, Kevin and his mother encounter Sarah-Jane on her bike. She tell's Kevin's mother that Kevin ought to be walking to school on his own, but he doesn't support her claim. Anna plucks up the courage to tell the playground smokers that she has drugs that they can buy. After another driving lesson, Conrad asks Robyn out, but it's not a very satisfactory date, with car-obsessed Conrad talking to his friends rather than her. After the date, he drives to a dark lane, but she immediately gets out and walks home. Julie's next lesson is even worse than before, and she doesn't book any more lessons. Julie is surprised to hear of Robyn's date the next day through Becky. Julie's annoyed at Robyn for upstaging her, but tells her friend that she's given up on the driving - she'll stick to her bike. Later, as she walks home she sees an accident - Sarah-Jane is knocked off her bike by a car as it swerves out of the way of kids exiting a bus. The car's driver rushes out - it is Miss Carver! As Sarah-Jane gets up and walks to the side, it's the teacher who's in a worse state, white with panic at what happened - she faints, caught by Julie. Kevin is nearby too - his concern is that if his mother hears about the accident, he'll never be let out the house at all!

Episode #18.3

The staff organize a birthday dinner for Mrs. Maguire. Overhearing the discussion about presents, Colin suggests a gorillagram. Mr. Hankin's house is doing badly in all areas, while Mr. Parrott's "Scott house" is excelling. Anna's new bike sparks a little jealousy, especially as it's come from her disreputable brother - and then they see her with an impressive mobile phone. Jacko, Becky and Joe figure that Jerome needs nobbling to even up things in the houses. They draw lots, Joe loses, and it's up to him to persuade Paula, who's seeing Jerome, to get the athletic lad to drop out of the tournaments. She reluctantly agrees, and although she's fairly disinterested in her attempt, Jerome sees himself as a hero for changing houses. When Poppy is delivering a message to the secretary, word is spread that it's also her birthday as well as the secretary's. When a gorillagram turns up in the flesh, and asks for directions, a Year Seven boy gives directions to Poppy's class! Dill pokes her nose into Anna's sudden wealth, even suspecting her of having taken Ecstasy. Wayne seems determined to give Poppy "the birthday beat", but Sarah Jane shields her, suggesting that Wayne must fancy Poppy to give her so much attention. Tempers fray in the Wright household, Anna's mother threatening to tell Anna about Gordon's nasty past, then under provocation, Gordon hits his mother. Anna comes home at that point, sees blood on her mother's face, but it's explained as a nosebleed. Gordon notices his mobile phone in Anna's bag, but barely restrains his temper. Sarah-Jane has an ice cream with Poppy, and suggests her friend comes round to her house to celebrate her birthday. She warns her that her family is okay, except the "loud mouthed tarty one" - Paula - who enters the café as Sarah-Jane mentions her. Gordon dresses Anna up in another school's blazer and gets her to threaten one of the pupils who owes Gordon money. Later, Gordon is nervous when someone knocks at their door - a loan shark. The house system causes more confusion when the boundaries that define who's in what house change, and no-one can decide whether they are using the old or the new system. There's a red vs blue basketball game played by the old boundaries, but to everyone's surprise, Jerome's team doesn't win.

Gordon's spent the night outside the flat, and when he returns he finds that his mother's destroyed his stash. He explains to Anna about how he's borrowed money from a loan shark, and that's how he managed to buy things for her. There's a shock for Julie and Robyn when they read the local paper - they learn a bypass is planning to built through the grounds of Grange Hill. In the school council meeting, it becomes apparent that the school is likely lose one of its playing fields. Gordon gives Anna a sheet of drugs to sell, little tabs to be put on the tongue. Anna recognizes one of the lads, and so Gordon realizes he's been set up. When Anna returns home, she finds her mother has a badly bruised face. She is in the process of putting Gordon's stuff outside, hoping he will take the hint that he's not wanted. Anna still refuses to believe that Gordon would hurt their mother. Meanwhile, Gordon has tracked Andrew to a pub, and corners him in the loos. He is outnumbered, and leaves empty-handed. His dealer is getting impatient for the money he is owed, and then he finds his mother has put new locks on the front door. With threats of the police being called, Gordon walks away. The next day, Elvis fan Kevin tries to persuade his mum to get him a guitar. Anna encounters Gordon on the way to school. He persuades her to get a key cut for the new front door lock and also to push the drugs at school. Ironically, Mr. Robson has arranged a community police officer to talk to Year 8 about drugs. He's also expecting a councillor to talk about the playing fields. Unfortunately, Dennis mistakes the councillor for the police officer, and Julie thinks the plain-clothes police officer is the councillor. The councillor can't quite understand why he's expected to speak to the assembly, though Dennis' s comment that "I expect you must meet some real villains" is something he agrees upon. For his part, the police officer is bemused by Julie's questions about the road-widening scheme. While Anna struggles to sells Gordon's drugs, her brother has finally found Andrew out alone in back alley, but a passer-by intervenes. Gordon gets back inside the flat, and takes some money in an envelope, also various items, including Anna's bike. Back at school, the role reversal is rectified, and the police officer is telling Year 8 about drugs - he shows them the very same tabs which Anna has been touting. Perceiving her own stash of tabs to be a dangerous item to be seen with, Anna goes outside and hides them on a roof, securing them with a brick. After school, Anna's sitting at home alone when suddenly the front door is smashed in - it's Gordon's loan shark with one of his heavies. They starts breaking the china threateningly, and when there's nothing of value to be had, start smashing everything up. Eventually, when it becomes apparent that Gordon's left for good, they leave. Almost immediately there's another visitor, Eliot, Gordon's drug supplier, who's not unsympathetic to Anna, and her broken front door. He suggests she finds somewhere else to stay. Anna packs her bag and her face wet with tears, heads off into the night...

The art class is jealous because the science class have a day away from school. Mr. Brisley has difficulty trying to persuade them of the value of pop art. To compensate, he offers a trip out to an art exhibition. Dennis shows some interest, and borrows a book. Trying to impress Jerome, Paula tells him she's taken up athletics. Joe happens to be around at that moment, and laughs at the suggestion. Sarah-Jane takes it on herself to help Paula get fitter, but Paula seems ready to give up very easily. She decides to take another approach - and get rid of Jerome's existing girlfriend, Liz. One of Anna's unsatisfied customers intercepts Dill on the way in to school, but Anna's not been seen for some days. Mr. Robson has also noticed her absence. A school council meeting about fund-raising is held, and Colin is voted in to chair it. Becky is about to start on her ideas when Miss Carver bursts in, and takes over, suggesting they need money for books. The local press are taking a photo of Grange Hill protesting about the sports field issue. Paula is determined to be close to Jerome in the photo, and has the brainwave of locking Liz in the changing rooms - she clicks off the Yale lock, and the door starts to swing shut. Liz asks Paula to give her a hand, and forgetting what she's just done, Paula obliges - and they are both locked in. Inside, as Liz escapes through a window, leaving Paula behind, Liz explains that Jerome is just a long-time buddy - he has 21 year old girlfriend. The two run back to get in the photo - the camera clicks just as Paula trips headlong into shot. It's time for Mr. Brisley's promised trip to the art gallery. Dennis appears - he is dressed like a 1960's Beatnik - dark glasses and stripy shirt. Joe gives Jessica a call - she is away on the field trip, and he's jealous when he hears how they've met up with some boys from another school. Jessica ends the call, and he's feeling a little sorry for himself. When Paula suggests they go out together he readily agrees. With Paula shouting her mouth off about going out with Joe, Lucy, and Jodie decide they need to tell Jessica. At the art exhibition, Dennis laps up a talk given by a contemporary artist - then he disgraces himself! Seeing Rachel look especially unsteady, he grabs at a nearby chair for her. Unfortunately, it's an integral part of a modern sculpture, which collapses noisily as he removes the essential component... Arnie shares Dill's concern about Anna's continuing absence and they decide to go in the lunch hour. They knock at her door, but her mother has no idea where she is - she has assumed Anna has gone off with Gordon. Afterwards, Dill confides in Arnie about Anna's drug dealing.

Episode #18.6

Dill and Arnie rope Sam into the business of Anna, but Colin's determined to get in on the action too. They can't get any privacy in the playground so they enter the Boiler Room and talk there. They find evidence that someone has been recently staying there - remains of food, some candles and a sleeping bag - could it be Anna's stuff? They hide in the toilets and wait till school closes, so they can catch whoever is staying. There is a surprise visitor - Colin! After a while, they trot out for some drinks, but whoever was staying has removed their stuff by the time they return. Outside, there's a strange sight on the playing fields - hundreds of candles alight. A torch shines in their faces - but it's just an angry Julie Corrigan, raising her road widening protest a notch by camping in the playing fields. Becky and Robyn turn up, laughing at Julie's protest, but they have brought food for everyone to share. Arnie thinks that the presence of Julie explains the items found in the boiler room - but Julie claims no knowledge of the baked beans can they found. The next day, Mr. Robson is not at all pleased to find Julie's tent in the way of a football game. A compromise is reached - and Julie's tent is moved to one side. Julie seems determined to stay put, however it rains heavily the following night, and the tent proves not to be watertight. The next morning, Dill is parking her bike when Anna's sheet of tabs falls off the roof in front of her. Kevin rides up and parks, happy in his new independent method of travelling to school. He notices the tabs, and explains that they are fake tattoos. He licks one, putting it on Dill's arm, then puts another tab in his mouth, but is interrupted by Mr. Parrott, and swallows it. Becky chairs a meeting to discuss fund raising. Colin's suggestion of marathon bingo is accepted, and so is Lauren's idea of Year 10 vs Year 12 rugby - for the girls. Meanwhile, in Maths, Kevin starts behaving strangely, as the acid on his tab kicks in. At first he giggles uncontrollably, then when Mr. Parrott talks to him, asking him to solve a problem, he backs away, then loses his temper, and runs off. Meanwhile, Mr. Brisley has become suspicious of Dill's painting of LSD tabs and, thinking she might be taking drugs, talks to Mr. Robson about its effects. Kevin rampages out onto the balcony, where he bumps into Rachel. He becomes agitated, moving away from her, and steps over the edge of the railing, hanging on, while Mr. Parrott looks up in horror...

Episode #18.7

Things look bad for Kevin, nervously standing outside the balcony's railing, about to fall. Mr. Parrott's appearance on the playground below only agitates him further, but he leaves to get help. Rachel is left up there with him, listening to his confused ramblings. She talks gently to him, and offers him a soft drink can. "It's poison!" he yells, and she responds: "No, it's just bad for your teeth." His moment of drug-induced madness is over, and he climbs back, and Rachel hugs him reassuringly. Rachel is the hero of the hour, the story of her bravery exaggerated wildly, while Kevin is taken to hospital. Remembering Dill's artistic rendering of the LSD tabs, Mr. Brisley pull in Dill's mother to try to get the bottom of how Dill is involved. Protecting Anna, Dill remains silent. There's still the mystery of the second tab's disappearance, and the caretaker is tasked with finding it. In fact, it has been affixed to Arnie's blazer for part of the day, but ends up back on Dill's when their blazers collide. Arnie knows about Dill's problem - he can't decide whether or not to shop Anna's drug dealing and save Dill's neck, but that would risk the wrath of Anna and her brother. Miss Carver almost runs over Lauren while she is parking in her street. She explains that she is moving into one of the houses, staying with the school secretary, Mrs. Maguire. At Mrs. Maguire's house, Lauren and Jodie finish helping Miss Carver unpack, and she explains that her husband is away on the oil rigs for nine months. Then someone else turns up - a man called Adam, who's seen the notice about a room for rent. They decide he can stay for a while, though the place is now very cramped. The dinner table is also quite crowded, with Lauren and Jodie staying for the meal, and Lauren overindulging on the wine. Miss Carver is also getting a bit merry, and to the girls' delight starts telling an inappropriate anecdote about Mr. Hankin entering her room only wearing underpants. Still in her tent, Julie sings to herself as she prepares for another night alone, but then there's a cough from nearby. It's just Dennis, who's brought her some chocolate. He's got an ulterior motive though - he wants Julie to put in a good word to Lucy. Lucy then turns up, but it'll take more than a bit of chocolate to impress her - especially if that chocolate has already been eaten! Becky has planned some work experience at a Women's refuge. She and Jacko go to meet Marion at a café, but to Jacko's annoyance, he's not invited. At Kevin's house, his parents argue about who's to blame: his mother decides that there's no way she'll let her son ride to school alone...

Kevin's mum finds that Kevin's already upped and left when she checks his room. Jessica is back from her school trip, concerned about Joe and Paula, but uncertain of how to proceed. Meanwhile, Kevin's independent walk to school is being monitored by a police officer - his father in fact. Arnie and Sam decide to spill the beans about Anna's drug dealing, and go to speak to Mr. Brisley. Denny gets some work experience on the school receptionist's phone. She gets a call from the police about hoax bomb scares, but Dave runs off before he has the full information, panicking that there's a bomb in the school. Dave tells the news to Mr. Brisley's art class, who start to scream, and duck for cover. Mr. Brisley reassures them, but at that moment, Mr Hankin is demonstrating the size of the Sun by inflating a balloon, which chooses that moment to burst loudly. It's not the end to Mr. Hankin's embarrassment though - Lauren spreads the story she heard from Miss Carver. She tells Lucy and the others that Mr. Hankin had once wandered into Miss Carver's bedroom in his underpants. Colin has a surprise for Arnie and Sam - he's brought his dog, Monster, to school in his bag, because there was no-one to look after him. They decide to ask Julie to look after Monster in her tent, while they have to do Games. In Mr. Hankin's science class, Lucy cheekily tells Mr. Hankin that she's sorry to hear about his mistake - he misunderstands, and says, "You know how it is, sometimes the pressure builds up, and the next thing you know, your glasses are flying off!" Mr. Hankin realizes that it must have been Miss Carver who spread the story, and shouts at her angrily before storming off. At the meeting to decide what to do with the funds raised, Becky gets them to agree to put the money to the women's refuge. Mr. Robson goes to speak to Julie about the press - she hides Colin's dog under the duvet. She might have got away with it, but Colin chooses this moment to reclaim Monster, and the animal leaps out, and runs away across the field. The boys follow Monster back to school, and find he's gone into the Boiler Room. Reaching up to get at the dog, Sam notices a packet wedged in the wall - and then gets his arm stuck. Caretaker, Dave worries it might be a bomb, but Mr. Robson is made of sterner stuff. The package is pulled out - it's just old clothes! Outside, Sam reveals that the badge on the jacket was Anna's, and the newspaper is two weeks old. They decide to see Dill, and together go once more to Anna's flat. Out of sight they observe Anna's mother speaking to Gordon. They hear them argue, and then Anna's mother says how she thought Anna was with Gordon, but Gordon replies that he's not seen her for weeks...

She maintains that Josh is due to pick her up, but he doesn't arrive. Jess and Jodie arrive late, and meet sixth former Paula at the gate, who marks them late. Jessica warns Paula that she won't be so sure of herself after the rugby match. Arnie and Sam have a new sponsorship idea, but don't quite know how to ask for permission for it - they plan to kidnap Mr. Parrott. With the press due, and potentially bad publicity likely, Mr. Robson pleads with Julie to remove her tent from the playing fields, but she won't listen. Night falls, and there's a noise outside Julie's tent - it's Anna. She tells Julie she's been staying in a squat - Julie lets her stay in the tent, but she's gone by the morning. Fundraising day dawns at Grange Hill and lots of sponsored events take place. Jacko has a game of bingo, and then gets hooked to the game, determined to win the big cash prize. Unfortunately he's up against a pro, who demands that Denny reads the numbers out much quicker. He is in a foul mood when Becky tries to introduce some friends from the refuge, and brushes her aside. Arnie and Sam don't get too many sponsors for their "Kidnap" event, except for Mr Parrott himself who is led to believe it might be Mr. Brisley being kidnapped. There's a surprise for the girls when they go out for their rugby match - there are a bunch of male cheerleaders to encourage their efforts. Before the match can get started, there's a helicopter, which makes a landing nearby. Mr. Parrott angrily goes to remonstrate with the pilot, but before he knows it, he's being "kidnapped" to the delight of Arnie and Sam. Every one is highly amused - except for poor Julie, who's tent is destroyed by the wind from the rotor blades. And so the Year 10 vs Year 12 rugby match gets underway. At first the Year 12's have it their own way, then suddenly Paula is tackled to the ground by Jessica, Jess helps her to her feet, and their feud seems to be at an end. Year 10's level the score, then Jodie (their best player) is tackled and injured. Jess has to take the final deciding kick. It's a valiant attempt, but goes wide. Mr. Robson congratulates the winner, and then notices someone watching from the far side - Anna! Julie sits dejectedly amongst the remains of her encampment when she is approached by a young lady called Roz. She tells Julie that she's from the Taino tribe, she sent Julie's letter, and they must gather all the people from all the nations or the planet will die...

She brings out all the money her mother has hidden, but when she's out in the street with Gordon, she has a change of heart and only gives him the loose change - he's furious with her. Inside, Anna's mother has heard from Becky that Gordon is outside, and rushes to confront him. Becky is the first out, trying to reason with him, but he lashes out, and she's down, and then Mrs. Wright is outside too. Time's up for Gordon, as the police arrive and give chase on foot. He's caught and arrested while Anna hands back her mother's money, which she kept hidden. Jacko comforts Becky, who's shaken and bruised after her encounter with Gordon. In the morning, Dennis stands at the gates handing out Lucy's fact sheet. Dudley is initially concerned that he's been labelled as "Mr. Squelch", but Dennis explains that he's looking at a the missing cat entry, not his lonely hearts piece. In English class, Dawn is excused to visit the loo, and Dudley follows. He places a "Box 21" for his lonely hearts entry, while she is in the toilets. At the derelict house, Julie finds Mr. Squelch - the others have assumed the cat's owner must have died. At the end of the school day, Dudley finds his box has gone! Then he and Dennis overhear Dawn speaking with another boy, Mark: she assumed it was he who put the lonely hearts ad in, and he's not about to deny it. Knowing that she's interested in environmental issues, and specifically the road widening protest, Dudley is determined to find out more and is taken there by Robyn. As they enter the grounds of the property, someone is taking photos from a parked car. At school Mr. Parrott ticks off Becky for not attending her lessons, but then sees her bruised face and black eye. When he's gone, Jacko turns up, and she cries in his arms, scared now of going out. He persuades her she ought to go and speak to Marian at the refuge. She does, and Marian reassures her that her mistake was understandable, and something to learn from. Robyn tries to talk Julie out of the dangerous ideas the group has for handcuffing themselves together. Dudley finds Mr. Squelch, and realizes that it's the missing cat. Then, as the contractors trucks start arriving, Dudley and Robyn bolt for the exit, but not before Dudley grabs the cat. The JCB's menacingly roll forward. Julie's one-sided article about the road through the playing fields isn't accepted by Mr. Robson without a piece that states a counter viewpoint. At the Science Museum, Year Seven get to build a biplane, then meet an actor playing a convincing astronaut from the Apollo days. Kevin and Wayne aren't pleased to find their sleeping bags have been moved by kids from a scout group, and are determined to get their own back. Wayne convinces the rival group that there is a haunted room with mummified bodies, and leads them up to the medical gallery, and beyond to a room in the dark. When they arrive, Wayne quietly leaves them alone in the darkened area. While they are well and truly spooked, Kevin, his face painted by his sister's makeup, suddenly shines a torch onto his face, and they run off screaming. When it comes to bedtime, Dorothy has a fund of stories about the time she spent travelling abroad. At the hospital, Lucy's dad is called in by the ward sister...

Episode #18.15

It's the middle of the night... Year Seven slumbers fitfully at the Science Museum, while sleep's the last thing on Lucy's mind as she waits outside the hospital ward. Finally her father comes out, and has to break the devastating news that her mother's died. With nothing more to be done, Lucy and her dad head home. The next day, Saturday, Dennis is with Josh, and Dennis calls Lucy's house, but she doesn't pick up. In Assembly, Mr. Parrott warns the school that Lucy will need understanding in dealing with her loss. At the hospital there's a further shock in store for Mr. Mitchell - he learns that his wife had HIV which resulted in the meningitis. He storms home, and sees Lucy with her mother's earrings, pulls them off - Lucy's ears bleed - and horrified at the potential consequences, bathes Lucy's ears in antiseptic. Greg Mitchell is determined to find out how the HIV was contracted, and starts reading her old diaries and photo albums. Meanwhile Jodie visits Lucy, and brings with her the love and support of her friends from school. Greg sees a photo and remembers a minor accident that occurred on a trip to the States - he recalls his wife had a blood transfusion. At school, Dennis touches Lucy's arm and promises to do anything he can, but turns away when Josh does the same, clasping her hands. Greg decides he needs to tell Lucy about the HIV, and that she might herself be infected. When Lucy learns the truth, she throws away her mother's things from the bathroom. The next day's lesson is too close to home for Lucy - a followup discussion about the dangers of unprotected sex. She storms off, is rude to Mr. Parrott in the corridor and heads into the toilets, followed by Lauren. Her reaction puts two and two together for classmate Dean. In the toilets, Lauren tries to pacify her, but Lucy is touchy about being handled and falls as she tries to get away, and becomes paranoid at seeing her blood from a cut. Dean spray paints a skull and crossbones on Lucy's locker, and the rumours increase. In Art, things come to a head when Dudley blurts out that Lucy's mum died of AIDS, and Dennis flies into a rage, wrestling him to the ground...

Mr. Brisley pulls apart Dennis and Dudley after their fight. Lucy announces to the class that the rumours were true - her mum did die of AIDS. Dean continues to cast aspersions about Lucy's mother while getting ready for swimming practice. When it comes time for people to get into the pool, there's reluctance to do so, because of feared contact with Lucy. Dean stands up defiantly to Mr. Robson, but Rachel jumps in. Lucy returns to the changing rooms. Even among the staff there's disagreement about the safety, with potentially Lucy having HIV. Kevin is newly inspired in Science following the recent trip to the museum. Wayne is at his house talking about diseases, and Kevin's mother hears Wayne mention that a girl at school has AIDS. She goes to see Mr. Robson, but he refuses to give such confidential information out. Sarah-Jane spies on Kevin's lunch-time spent with the classroom assistant Dorothy, who always has spellbinding tales about her worldly experiences. Dorothy shows Kevin her pride and joy - a genuine NASA glove acquired when she worked in Houston. Sarah-Jane overhears how its worth thousands of pounds, and Kevin asks if he might put it on his hand, but she declines. When Kevin is told to get some exercise, Sarah Jane steps into the lab, and picks up the NASA glove. Startled by a boiling flask, she drops the precious glove, and steps back onto it, leaving a footprint, and she hastily withdraws from the room. When Dorothy discovers her precious artifact, she immediately concludes the damage was done by Kevin. The AIDS scare now extends to added graffiti on the school sign. Lucy, convinced she has HIV, has a chat with Mr. Brisley who tries to reassure her that HIV can't be contracted from touch. As the Year 7's gather outside to do a test on balloons, Dorothy is very short when Kevin asks an innocent question, and he is bewildered by her new attitude, however, later she realizes her mistake and takes him to see her telescope. Lucy visits the Terrance Higgins Trust to get counselling about her complex feelings. An advisor offers her a "memory store" - a device to put things that will remind her of her mother. She places various objects into its compartments, and her thoughts become clarified: She decides to have the test for HIV, and persuades her father to go too...

Lauren and Jodie offer to help Miss Carver, and she agrees but with reservations, remembering what happened last time. Brian and Gabriel start their unpaid work for "Blue Star Coaches". To their surprise they find Becky working in the office. To to the boys' disgust they find themselves sweeping up rather than learning about the business. When she's having lunch with Jacko, they see why her boyfriend is so jealous - she's seeing one of the drivers on the side. Episode #18.18

It's the day that Lucy and her father are due to get their results of the HIV test, but Lucy is determined to spend a normal day. Josh is conspicuous by his absence - he feels awkward about Lucy and is giving her space, rather than being supportive. Mr. Robson prepares the school for a parents' evening, making sure the noticeboards show a good representation of art and sports achievements. Poppy's lies start to catch up with her, as she hides her infatuation with Sixth Former Liz. Lucy sits at Jessica and Rachel's table at lunchtime. When she takes a sip of coke, Jessica makes it clear she doesn't want it back. Rachel tries to show it makes no difference to her, but accidentally causes the drink to spill over Lucy, who angrily leaves. The girls are tasked with getting biscuits for Parents Evening. Rachel finds a shop selling inexpensive, but smart looking tins, and they buy a couple. On the way back, Rachel gets the old "aren't you a bit young to be drunk" spiel by a couple of youths. Lucy berates them for not realizing she has Cerebral Palsy, but Rachel isn't pleased to have her fight her battles. Dennis loans Lucy his lucky pebble for good luck. She asks after Josh, and Dennis covers for his absence, and indifference. Poppy steals an item from the nice and full noticeboard because it has a picture of her idol, Liz. Her classmates notice, and she makes the excuse that the Houses were unfairly distributed. Wayne and Kelly then remove other pieces, until it's almost bare again. Mr. Parrott prepares things for the start of Parents' Evening, opening the fancy biscuit box - inside, every last biscuit is broken! Lucy and her father go to get the results. Then later Julie finds Lucy's father looking at the art on display at school. They get talking about things, and he tells her that he's just had some very good news - the HIV test was negative... In amongst all the parents, the poor sports master, Mr. Davies, sits alone, all the parents spending all their time with the other teachers, until a lone parent feels sorry for him and goes to chat, but their talk doesn't seem at all related to her son's sporting ability, more of a chat-up! Roz from the road protest comes to speak to Julie, telling her that they're off to Spain, and offering her the chance to come too. Josh finally speaks to Lucy, and is pleased to find her in the clear. She leaves him on his own, making it clear their relationship is at an end because he was not there for her. Lucy goes out for a fast food meal with her father. They clink their coke cans together - they have each other and they will cope with life's obstacles...

Episode #18.19

Arnie's father shows Mr. Robson the glossy video presentation which St. Joseph's have made, urging him to do the same. Finding the professional costs prohibitive, Mr. Robson talks to the Sixth Formers, and gets them to do one, volunteering Joe in as Producer. Rick's clapped out old bicycle comes in for some stick. When he's round Arnie's house for tea, Arnie's father gives some advice to Jessica and Arnie about the school film they are working on. He suggests that they take a leaf out of the book of the big movie companies, and use product placement to raise money. The idea lodges in Rick's head as a way of getting a better bike - he makes an agreement with the local bike shop to get a new bike. He pays only £50 on the understanding that the bike shop will get lots of publicity from being included in the video. Thereafter, Rick promotes the bike shop and his new bike whenever the camera is in view. End of term letters are handed out - Lucy storms off when she sees hers is addressed to her late mother. Dennis has angry words with Mr. Robson, but it's a bad time - the camera is currently rolling on Mr. Robson. Jacko doesn't seem to share Becky's enthusiasm for their camping holiday together. Later, he tells her that he's not got the holiday money, but he can't tell her what he spent the money on. She tells him that she'll go on holiday without him. Lucy is in the room when the video of Mr. Robson talking to Dennis is being edited and she sees how Dennis supported her. Lucy can't find his pebble, but she gives him her pencil case, and is happy to have him as a friend, but only that. Mr. Robson has a meeting to discuss the video - he's not happy with any of it - especially with Mr. Hankin's experiment going wrong, and footage of Julie's rebellious protest. While he makes a start on a fresh video, with a formal approach, Joe and Jessica decide they'll use their parents' equipment to make a rival documentary. Seeing the current version of the school video doesn't actually feature the bike after editing, Rick is beginning to despair though Alicia shows an interest in his highly customized bike as they leave school. When Rick passes by the bicycle shop, the owner calls him over. The owner has still seen no sign of the promised video promotion, and wants his bike back now!

Episode #18.20

Everyone seems to be working on the school video - the official one, and the unofficial one. The latter is full of amusing moments, and cunningly spliced footage with Mr. Parrott sounding like "Max Headroom". Getting Mr. Parrot on video though is difficult as he insists on the filming stopping when he sees a camera, so Dennis hides the camera in his case. The teacher insists the bag goes on the floor, and the camera shoots footage of Mr. Parrott tripping over it. Jacko asks Becky to go for a meal on her birthday, but she's decided to go with Robyn and Julie, still annoyed over the shared holiday being impossible. However, both Julie and Robyn bow out due to other plans. The unofficial video films Robyn talking to Julie about her plans to fight environmental causes, but the two carry on a heated discussion after the director calls "cut" - Robyn tries to dissuade her friend from dropping out of her final year of 'A' levels. Fed-up Becky talks to Jerome, and he suggests he takes her out on her birthday. Poppy acts like Liz's slave again - fetching her a sandwich - but Wayne is watching. When a smelly old sandwich is discovered in Dudley's locker, Wayne takes the opportunity to grab it, wraps it, and gives it to poppy telling her Liz asked for it. Liz is furious with the noxious item, and ticks off poor Poppy, who bursts into tears. Sarah-Jane has a talk with her, and suggests it's for the best, and that she gets her own back on Wayne. At that moment, there's a scream from Kelly, who's come across Arnie and a load of live fishing maggots. Sarah-Jane is made of sterner stuff, and takes a handful. She puts them into a sandwich, and in earshot of Wayne, pretends the sandwich contains an expensive filling. When they leave, Wayne grabs the sandwich and eats it... At Arnie's house, Rick is depressed to note that their copy of the unofficial video doesn't contain a single shot of the bike. Then Jessica appears with her friends for a viewing of the video. Then their dad unexpectedly returns, sees the video, and confiscates it, thinking it paints the school in too bad a light. Arnie tries to bargain the copy he made, perhaps to get some bike footage put back in, but his sister's too clever, and takes the video from his bag. Rick dejectedly returns the bike to the shop, expecting that to be an end to the matter, but the owner's had some good business resulting from Rick showing the bike around the school, so Rick gets to keep it after all. It's Becky's birthday, and Jerome drives Becky, but won't say where he's going. She confides in him that she's disappointed in how things turned out with Jacko. Becky and Jerome get out of the car and walk. They turn the corner, and ahead is a field with a hot-air balloon, and all her friends, including Jacko. Jacko explains that it's what he spent the holiday money on, and hand in hand, they run towards the balloon. They step into the basket, the ropes are released, and they climb into the sky...
