20 Episodes 1993 - 1993
Episode 1
It's the start of a new school year, but radio reports seem to indicate an early end to life on the planet, with an impending asteroid strike - at 3.20pm! Nick and Richard turn up at Ray's house, and find women's clothes - could Ray have a secret girlfriend? There's a bit of a love triangle: Maria fancies Richard who likes Natasha who is not interested. Fran thinks that if they find Natasha someone else, it would leave the way clear - perhaps Mr. Brisley, who she seems to like. Fran and Maria write a letter to the teacher, on pink paper, and Maria puts it in the Staff Room. Unfortunately, they are not sure of his first name.. is it "Geoff"? Techno's excuse that the asteroid caused his homework to catch fire doesn't go down too well. The new caretaker, Dave, doesn't seem very good at DIY, destroying a bookshelf in the Staff Room with one touch of his well-intentioned hammer, and causing the kettle to explode. Mrs. Keele finds one of Mrs. Monroe's classes unsupervised, and goes looking for the errant teacher. For her part, Mrs. Monroe finds her classroom empty... her pupils are tracked down to the Art Room. It seems Mrs. Monroe has started the day firmly convinced it is Monday... whereas it is in fact, Tuesday. When the power goes off too, it seems the asteroid might be to blame after all - or it could be the misplaced enthusiasm of the caretaker. Mr. Hankin, too, seems flustered and unwell and runs off. He tells Mr. Robson that he thinks one of the girls has developed a crush on him - Natasha! He shows him the note Fran and Maria wrote, intended for Mr. Brisley (Mr. Hankin's first name is Geoff). Mr. Robson calls in Natasha, but she doesn't know what he's talking about. Mr. Hankin's experiments with his Year Eight class seem to be "asteroided" too. Natasha works out who wrote the love letter, and pours pink paint on Fran's painting in Art. Fran and Maria puzzle over how Mr. Hankin ended up with the note. 3.20pm approaches, and the Grange Hill occupants look nervously at clocks and watches. The deadline expires, and Mr. Hankin tells his science class they are a silly bunch. But there is an asteroid strike after all - on the computer screen, courtesy of Techno's programming skills!

Episode 2
Barry Timpson returns to his classmate's horror - but this dissipates when everyone realizes he's without the others from the Cigarette Gang. Ray's brother, Kenny has a new girlfriend who can wrap him around her little finger. She gives Ray a lift to school on her impressive motor bike. As they arrive in the playground, her parting shot of "See you tonight" causes a great deal of interest in Justine, Nick and Richard. Later, when they question him about her, he doesn't disabuse them of the notion that she is his girlfriend. The Year Eight girls want to take part in the five a side football to Mr. Robson's dismay. Jodie seems to be doing well, but she's furious not to be picked for the team - Mr. Robson explains it is not a mixed team. New girl Mary takes her seat with the other Year 10's, getting involved in a project to describe where they live. Her answers about the house and road she resides at don't seem very convincing though. When Ray comes home, he finds the place in a tip, and no food in the house - it is due to Kenny spending all his spare time with Ruth. Kenny tells Ray to get hoovering, but the machine has a hole in the bag, and the place ends up a worse mess. Spanner is behaving mysteriously - when Techno goes round his house, he is refused entrance - it seems their friendship is at an end. Dave the caretaker turns a simple job of moving tables from one room to another into a major ordeal. Fran's new idea to get Richard interested in Maria is to send a picture and letter from her male cousin to Natasha, but in such a way that Richard discovers it. However, it seems Fran is keeping a secret from her best friend - she also fancies Richard - she just manages to close her diary (in which she's drawn a heart with her own and Richard's name) before Natalie and Maria come back. Seeing the diary, Natalie mentions that her twin is also keeping a secret diary. They hatch a plan to get Natasha's diary, to put in their fake letter. Having stolen it from her locker, with Natalie's help, there's a bit of a problem in getting it back. Barry Timpson - the solitary one from the cigarette gang to be in school - finds he is a pariah, "accidentally" shoved around by just about everybody. Later, he is chased through the corridors by an angry mob out for revenge. He hides in the toilets, but is ejected from that hiding place by Jacko's lot. Outside, he runs again, and trips. The mob approach, then three more faces appear round the corner - Mick, Grimbo and Frank have returned!

Episode 3
Just who is photocopying Natasha's diary on the school photocopier? Fran and Maria both claim innocence at having taken it and Natalie is cross because her sister's been mad at her ever since it went missing. Seeing a camcorder in the shop window inspires Robyn to wish that they could have one to make their own videos. The Cigarette Gang waste no time in getting back to normal activities - breaking into school lockers, for instance - they commission Barry Timpson to get started on that trick. Unfortunately for him, he's found trying to prise them open by Natasha, who thinks he must have been the one to take her diary. Mr. Brisley intervenes, but his bag is empty. Richard offers her assistance. Mrs. Keele needs to see Mick, Grimbo and Frank to lay down some ground rules - but she is hampered by the loss of her voice. Her condition makes it hard for them to take her warning seriously. Their apologies are insincere, as they prove after terrorizing a young boy they meet out in the corridor. Mr. Robson gets more grief about Jodie's wanting to play football - from Mrs. Monroe too. At the student/teacher meeting, Robyn proposes the idea of the camcorder as a school purchase to help with projects, but there's no money for it. Justine suggests they raise money for it, using the school newspaper. Finally the point about Jodie playing in the boys' football comes up, and Mr. Robson finds he might have to reconsider. Richard goes into Natasha's good books when he finds her diary out near the bins - a watching Maria looks on in dismay. Frank and Grimbo have joined the community action scheme (without much choice in the matter!) and are asked by Mr. Robson to help with the football coaching. When Mr. Robson meets his counterpart from another school for a five-a-side match, to his horror he finds that their team has girls in it - will no-one follow the rules!? When Jodie and Lucy approach him, still nagging about playing, he still refuses. The match is a nightmare for Mr. Robson, not helped by the female audience who cheer the opposition girls when they score a goal. A fight breaks out between Spanner and Techno, and the ref sends both off. Robyn and Julie come across the road that new girl Mary gave as her address, and check out her impressive house. Julie plucks up the courage to knock, and the girls find that there's no Mary living at that address. As they leave, Natasha continues to praise Richard for finding her diary, with just that nagging worry about its lock being broken. Doing a stint as a receptionist at school, Ray confides in Maria that Ruth isn't his girlfriend. She can't resist telling Fran and Justine who fall about laughing. Julie and Robyn confront Mary about her house, but she shrugs it off. Natasha and Richard hear lots of giggling near a notice board - a photocopied page of her diary is pinned there. Richard reads a bit of it out in which Natasha has written her thoughts about the boys and teachers - notably about Mr. Robson who stands listening. Her diary entry says that she thinks Mr. Robson should have gone into the army, except he wouldn't have passed the IQ test!

Episode 4
Kenny breaks some surprising news to his brother, Ray - he's getting married and is having an engagement party. Home life for Andy (Spanner) is getting tricky with a new baby in the house, which has taken his bedroom, and an annoying little sister. More diary revelations are put up from Natasha's diary, this time saying horrible things about Justine. Justine is upset over the cruel jibes, saying that she's not over Liam. When Richard enters the library, Nick hides something, but Richard makes him show it - it's the photo from Natasha's diary, placed there by Maria and Fran to make Richard think 'Tasha is seeing someone else. Kenny offers a variety of carrots to Ray to make peace with his brother, but none of them work, and Ray storms off. Another Natasha diary extract is posted, this time it bad-mouths the Cigarette Gang, who decide things have gone too far. They decide to take a pop at Mary, but she's perfectly able to defend herself. Natasha asks for Richard's help once again, but he refuses, still sore at finding out about her fictional boyfriend. Mr. Hankin mentions to Ray that people are videoing weddings with camcorders - it gives him an idea, with his brother's marriage in the offing. But first, the school has to raise enough money to buy one, and Justine tells him they've only raised £50 so far. Ray and Nick have a run in with St. Joe's. He bets fifty quid (the very money raised by sponsorship) that their football junior team will beat St. Joe's. He's optimistic - until he speaks to Mr. Robson, and finds out that the Grange Hill team was beaten by girls. He takes on the task of trying to get Techno and Spanner together, speaking to them both. Persuaded by Ray, Spanner finally tells Techno about the baby, and the two are reconciled. While the minibus takes Grange Hill off to play, Ray confidently waits to hear - he's arranged for someone to call in with the result. To his dismay, he finds Dave the Caretaker has dismantled the phone. Later, returning to school, Mr. Robson is surprised to find Ray still waiting to hear the result. After a little tension building, Mr. Robson reveals the score - 4:1 to Grange Hill!

Episode 5
An angry mob hammer on the close Tuck Shop window... Justine, who is in charge of it, turns up late. She tells Mrs. Keele that she's not well, and the Head suggests she hands over the day to day operation to the Year 8's. Fran is a little careless when talking to Nick about Natasha's mystery man (happy that her devious plan worked) and almost gives the game away. Maria is no help, she just runs off to play badminton with Justine, with a cat-that's-got-the-cream smile on her face. Frank, Grimbo, and the others sit before the Head who's decided they can participate in the Community Action Scheme. Mrs. Monroe learns of the background of mystery girl Mary, and is upset not to have been told earlier. Asserting their sixth form authority over the Year 10 girls, Nick and Richard, with Fran and Maria play a badminton match: it's all part of the game plan to get Maria with Richard. Nick keels over before the game's gone more than a few seconds, with a fake injury, Fran takes him home, leaving Maria with Richard. She plays the "can you show me how to hold the bat" card to get close to him. Meanwhile, Nick continues to limp, explaining he really did hurt his foot. After Badminton, Maria goes off with Richard to play pool. Meanwhile, Frank and Grimbo's Community Action begins with them visiting Mrs. Sochaski, an old lady with an East European accent. Mrs. Monroe rather cautiously leaves them with her and they start to do some odd jobs. At school, Jodie approaches Mary because she's seen her playing footie with some lads, but Julie butts in, scornful and snobbish about the common nature of the area where she hangs out. Later, Julie challenges Mary about why she showers at school - she is determined to get to the root of her mystery, and follows her after school. At the old lady's house, Grimbo's eyes light up when he sees all her jewellery, but she bosses him out of the room. He and Frank learn that she is Polish. While having tea and cake, while the lady is out of the room, Grimbo finds some computer games lying around. Frank is about to put them in his bag, when she returns. She tells the boys a little of the story of her life, about the loss of her family in concentration camps, and this touches a nerve with Grimbo who tells Frank not to taking the games. In any case, she explains that the games come from her son, and she surprises them by being quite adept at playing them. Later Grimbo returns to show the woman a locket he has with a picture of his dead father inside - killed in the Falklands War. She questions why he's showing it, and this breaks the spell - he reverts to type, is rude to her and walks off...

Episode 6
Robyn persuades Mary to show her where she lives - it is a caravan and Mary is a gypsy. They are followed by Julie, who spreads the news round the school. The Polish lady, "Mrs. S", earns a little of Graham's trust, getting him to admit the locket was bought in a junk shop, and Graham explains that the man who looks after him used to be his mother's partner. She gives him some computer games, but he pretends he stole them when he speaks to Frank. The boys and girls of Year Ten are competing to show they can run the Tuck Shop. The girls seem to be ahead in the game, using Home Economics to bake some demonstration food. They are sabotaged by Andy and Dennis who spice up their fruit drink and steal their recipe book - but it's Mr Mackenzie who suffers when he takes an experimental taster of their concoction. The girls learn that Mr. Brisley has a spare fridge freezer, and arrange to acquire it for the tuck shop. They easily beat the boys vague account of how they will run the tuck shop, and Justine hands over the reins of the enterprise to the girls. Mary finds herself an outcast, and blames Robyn, who protests innocence. She approaches Jodie in the new Tuck Shop about playing football - Jodie is happy for Mary to play, and leaves her temporarily in charge of the shop. When she returns, with Lucy, the money box is opened, and the float is found to be absent. Sensing accusative eyes looking at her, Mary flies into a rage, pushing a younger girl, and tearing down the tuck shop poster... After she has gone, Justine turns up with the cash which hadn't been put in the money box yet. Mrs. Keele reprimands Mary, and asks her to wait outside. When Mrs. Monroe goes to talk to her, she's gone. Mary sits outside her caravan, crying....

Episode 7
Mr. Robson is mobbed by enthusiastic female footballers who won't take no for an answer when it comes to getting some training. Mrs. Monroe has been offered a chance for the school to appear in an advert. Ray's shocked to find that she might have turned it down, as the money would pay towards the camcorder fund. He and Justine search Mrs. Monroe's desk until they find the letter from the company. Ray persuades Justine to call as though she were Mrs. Monroe, saying she's changed her mind. The plan is successful, but they have no idea what the advert is for, except that they need footballers. Ray, Justine and Nick hold their own audition for players. At school, the film crew arrive to shoot the advert, and a surprised Mrs. Monroe tries to get the bottom of how come they turned up when she said no to them. In a geography class, Andy and Dennis are determined to somehow get involved in the advert, but they are ill-prepared, as usual. Ray tries to convince Mrs. Monroe it couldn't have been him who phoned, but then Justine turns up, and their subterfuge becomes obvious. Nevertheless, the advert filming gets under way, and a load of male footballers step in for the audition. However, it appears Ray and Justine overlooked a vital detail - the film crew are after female footballers! "No problem," says Ray, and shoots off to get some. With a terrible sense of timing, Andy and Dennis burst in, wearing emergency lost property P.E. kit...

Episode 8
Andy and Dennis have just burst in to the filming of an advert for shoes, unaware that the production staff are expecting girls... Evidently, the producer wants footballers of the fairer sex, and one solitary male, to sell girls' shoes. To his astonishment, the producer chooses Andy. His pride turns to dismay when she tells everyone that what they want for the advert is a "useless wimpy boy". The advert is shot, and Mrs. Keele receives a cheque - with some reservations about the unorthodox way of raising funds. Fran and Maria have a coffee with Nick, but coincidentally Mick and Grimbo's gang are also there. The ex-Cigarette Gang discuss their community action work - Mick can't understand why Graham and Frank aren't taking stuff from the old lady, but Graham looks uneasy. The school buys the camcorder, but there seems reluctance among the staff to get to grips with the new fangled technology. Who is Andy's mystery admirer? He won't say at first, but then admits it is Lucy Mitchell. Dennis suggests they go to watch the girls' hockey match. Mrs. Monroe and Mr. Robson are also there to video the proceedings, but it's more difficult than it looks with such a fast action game. Lucy's glances at the boys embarrasses Andy further, but he's missing the point: it's Dennis she is looking at. To Mr. Robson's surprise, in the middle of the match Jodie swaps hockey sticks for a football, and she and the others kick the ball, scoring a goal! Mr. Robson is furious, but he sees that there will be no peace, and agrees to start some girls' football teams. Maria calls Richard telling him that everyone's going to a new club, and he agrees to come - but she has no intention of asking anyone else... Unfortunately, Richard innocently asks Justine about it later, and she agrees to come too with the others. At Sofia's house, "Lofty", as the old lady calls Frank, and Graham are under instructions to nick something. Frank pretends to have stomach ache, and Sofia goes to find some medicine. Graham takes advantage of the distraction to take a locket from her jewellery. Justine visits Ray, to tell him about plans for their night time trip to the club, but finds him in a depressed mood. He confides that he's worried Kenny's going to move out and leave him without a roof over his head. Richard and Maria arrive at the club - Mick and Barry are also there, waiting for the other half of their gang. When they turn up, Mick isn't pleased at Graham's pathetic theft. As he investigates it, the picture from inside the locket falls out unnoticed. Richard puzzles over why no-one else has turned up, but Maria grabs him and leads him to the dance floor. As he does so, Justine and Fran turn up. The power goes off briefly - teething troubles at the new club - when they come on Fran is staring enviously at Maria and Richard, in each others arms..

Episode 9
Kenny's engagement party is looming, and there's bad news as the intended venue has been shut down, so the party must be held at Ray and Kenny's house. Kenny pays Ray to get the place sorted out, and Ray gets a chance to ask a leading question - what happens to him when his brother is married. Kenny evades the question and rushes off. Ray enlists the help of Justine to sort the food out. Meanwhile, Dudley tries to get Dennis and Andy interested in his idea for getting the Tuck Shop from the girls - he plans to douse their food with Worcester sauce. When he sees Justine carrying food, he smiles happily in anticipation, and offers her a hand, unaware that it is food for the party... Mrs. Keele wants to see the video of the hockey match, unaware of the embarrassment caused to Mr. Robson when the girls made their demonstration for girls' football. While Ray, with the (paid) help of Richard and Nick tidy up his place, there's a surprise when Vikki, an ex-girlfriend of Kenny, turns up, and becomes quite interested in the party. Mr. Robson is mobbed by the female footballers again, but Ray comes to his assistance - with the intention of prising the camcorder from him, for use at the engagement party. After some football practice, Ray and Nick smuggle out the camcorder, pretending to put it away. At home, Ray starts filming Kenny, and then the party gets underway. The happy couple give a little speech, Kenny says he used to be ruthless, but now that's got Ruth, he's ruthless no longer! It's all going quite well, despite some "hot" waffle irons turning up, and Kenny's ex, Vikki reappears. Also Richard tastes the food, and finds it ruined by Dudley's earlier intervention. Ray tries to keep Ruth away from Vikki, who's intertwined herself with Kenny. Unfortunately, although Ray's successful in keeping Ruth away - and even gets a reassurance that they'll want him to continue to live with them - he's reckoned without the camcorder which is recording Kenny and his ex downstairs. Justine fends off an admirer with a mouthful of Worcester-sauce impregnated quiche...and finally, the party is over, with Kenny having been given an earful by Ruth - not about Vikki, or stolen goods, but about him not telling his little brother that he'll be staying with them, once they are wed. Back at school, Nick and Ray pretend to borrow the camera from the locked cupboard, but of course they are using that as a ruse for returning it. Unfortunately they reckon without the entry of Mrs. Keele who wants to see the hockey match she thinks is recorded on the tape....

Episode 10
When Mrs. Keele attempts to play the hockey match recording, Mr. Robson swaps the tapes, but to his horror, it's already been swapped (by Ray and Nick), so in fact the right tape is played after all, and the headmistress does see the match, and the demonstrative football girls. Community action is driving Mick bananas, though Barry is enjoying playing with the kids at the nursery. Ray and the others watch the camcorder recording, but Ray's not happy about the content - showing Kenny receiving stolen goods, and in the arms of his ex-girlfriend. In the café, Frank shows the stolen locket to Justine and Fran, trying to interest them into buying it. Dudley approaches the tuck shop girls, curious as to why there have been no complaints after he put Worcester Sauce into their flans, but he's none the wiser. Out near the gates, Frank tries another idea - getting Mary the Traveller to sell the locket, assuming that she'll be used to selling stolen goods. She calls them ignorant fools - Graham laughs at Frank's discomfort. Ray finds that the footballing girls are expecting him to carry on coaching, ignoring his pleas that it was a one-off. Mary goes to see Mrs. Keele, having learned that there's a good chance that their traveller camp will be evicted from its site. Sophia is desperately searching for her locket, pinched by Frank and Graham. When she realizes it's been taken, she goes to see Mrs. Keele. Frank and Graham are summoned to the headmistress's office, but they craftily hide the locket under one of their bags first. The Polish lady describes the locket to the pair - and explains it was given by her husband, and inside the locket was a irreplaceable photograph of him. Frank tries to keep Graham quiet, but it's obvious that he's moved by Sophia's account, and reaches into his pocket, where he has kept the photograph since it fell out of the locket. Graham admits his guilt, but Frank continues to deny knowledge of the locket - but Mrs. Keele has an ace up her sleeve - the teacher in their class found the locket under their desk. The two are expelled... Sophia pleads for clemency on Graham's behalf. On the way out, seeing Mary waiting outside, and jumping to conclusions, Frank shouts at the girl that "you'll die for this!" Outside with Robyn, Mary is dragged into the bike shed by Mick and Barry. Mary denies having anything to do with Mrs. Keele finding out about the locket. Robyn persuades Stuart to talk to Mick, to persuade him that Mary didn't grass about the locket. Stuart meets Mick after church, and gets the word across that Mary's not to blame. Mary takes Robyn back to her camp to meet her charismatic father. He tells her about the old days and the stories they handed down, before television killed that part of their life. Robyn departs for home...

Episode 11
Ray assembles his team of girl footballers, but can't wrest control of the gym away from Mr. Robson. When they get stroppy, they are kicked out. The girls blame Ray, and seem to have given up on him. The boys who were training with Mr. Robson subsequently taunt the girls with "off, off, off" chanting. Both Robyn and Mary are in a thoughtful frame of mind; Robyn can't stop thinking about mystery older boy Adam, while Mary worries about her camp being evicted. Maria tries to persuade Richard to spend summer with her in Yorkshire: Fran watches on in annoyed jealousy. In the library, Natalie finds a photograph of a boy with a note on the back lovingly addressed to Natasha. Fran keeps quiet about it being faked by herself earlier in the term, and they plant it in Maria's bag. To Fran's surprise, Natasha says she does know the boy, and that she was keeping him a secret. Ray is giving the girls a football training session, but despairs at their lack of the killer instinct - though they can't see a problem. When Mick takes the ball off them easily, they can't summon the courage to tackle him, but then Mary comes along and easily puts him out of action. Ray tries to persuade her to play with their team, but she's not interested. Mrs. Keele takes her influential councillor friend to see Mary's parents at the camp, trying to persuade her that it would be worthwhile for the camp to stay put. At the gypsy camp, Mrs. Keele is alarmed when a press photographer gets in the way, and a rather false happy photograph is taken - without Mary. As they walk home, Fran tells Justine that Natasha's mystery boy is in fact her own cousin. To Fran's astonishment, her cousin Simon is waiting for her at home. She worries that Natasha might see him, and then the whole truth about their chicanery will be revealed. Robyn goes to see Adam - a much older boy, and his friends. The next day, Mrs Keele reads the local newspaper, and works out that her Mrs. Jones councillor friend was working for her own self promotion, showing how she bowed to the school's pleas about the gypsy camp. Bowing to pressure from Mrs. Monroe, Mr. Robson arranges a boys v girls football match: everyone seems happy, except for Ray, who doesn't think the team is ready. Fran's worst fear seems about to be realized when Simon turns up at school and heads off unescorted to the common room. Fran dashes off to catch her cousin, but fate is against her. The first girl Simon encounters at the common room door is Natasha, and he reveals he is Fran's cousin...

Episode 12
Fran is profoundly embarrassed when the "joke" of her cousin's photo is explained to the Stevens twins, Richard and Nick, and Simon, her cousin who has turned up in the flesh. She gets no help from Maria, for whom the entire thing was originally engineered, originally in an attempt to make Richard think Natasha had a boyfriend. In the end, tempers fray, and Fran and Natasha have a small fight, the photograph getting torn. Jacko takes bets on the outcome of the boys vs. girls five-a-side football match - he offers odds of 1000-1 that the girls will win. It's Robyn's birthday, and she gets a bike as a present, and lots of cards - but not one from Adam, the boy who matters most to her. Mary gives her a pendant as a present. Later in the day, her father can't understand why Robyn is so upset. When she goes to the supermarket to see Adam, the checkout girl tells her he's not there, but that she will be seeing him in the evening. At the evening meal, Robyn picks at her food - then there's a phone call, but it's only Mary to tell her the good news that their camp will be staying. Robyn sets off to school on her bike - but she doesn't arrive. The football match finally gets underway. The boys just scrape a win at the last moment thanks to an own goal. Concerned that Robyn's not at school, Mrs. Keele phones her home, and when there is no reply, asks the police to call round her house. Mary overhears Mrs. Keele talk to Mrs. Monroe - Robyn was seen by her neighbours leaving home, but then she disappeared...

Episode 13
Robyn's still missing, and now the police are searching for her - they visit the school and try to get an idea of her character. Under some pressure, Mary reveals details about Robyn's boyfriend Adam, but Becky doesn't even know about him. Some skeletons come out of the cupboard too - Julie's bullying, for instance. The police want to interview Alice, but she's now at a different school, and can't be found. The police interview Adam, who admits to dating her once and then giving her the push. Her class go off on a search of their own - and worryingly find the pendant that Mary gave her as a birthday present. Justine's had an offer to spend the weekend with Luke, but she's not so sure if she wants to go. She asks for Mr. Brisley for advice - she is worried about showing herself up at his posh house. Mr. Brisley gives her a lesson in etiquette. Robyn's father shows prejudice against Mary, and her travelling life, when he learns about the nature of Robyn's friend. The police search the travellers' site, but find nothing, other than some resentment. Becky and Gabriel, while out searching near the canal make a disturbing discovery - a submerged bicycle poking out of the water...

Episode 14
Robyn is still missing, and her bike is lifted out of the canal. Thing look bad, but then news comes of an accident reported where a lad was seen on a bike of that description. The police match up a fingerprint on the bike and call on a suspect, Michael, who immediately tries to run for it. At home, Robyn's mother is going mad with worry, especially now it is dark. Then, at Mary's caravan, Robyn appears from nowhere. She explains to Mary how she had taken the train to see old friend Alice, to talk about Adam, and left her bike at the station. Mary persuades Robyn that she must go home. Mr. Stone misinterprets Mary's appearance thinking she'd been with the travellers' camp all the time. The next day, the police arrange a time with the Head to give a lecture on safety. Maria walks in with Justine, and the penny drops about Fran and Richard. Things come to a head when another Natasha diary extract is published on the noticeboard, this time saying that Fran is two-faced. Fran storms into the common room blaming Maria - accusing her of doing the diary photocopying. Robyn's friends wonder if she'll come to school, but she's at home, stubbornly refusing to explain about Adam. At school, Mary falls out with Becky, when someone near her calls "gypsy" when her back is turned. Nick is seeming to get closer to Natasha, and she agrees to go on a date with him - Richard watches gloomily, but to Natasha the event is entirely perfunctory. Ray wants to see the match that was recorded by the camcorder, and gets Nick to do it, but Nick gets the tapes mixed up, and gives Mr. Brisley the engagement video instead. Ray takes the tape from Mr. Brisley, and takes it home for him, Kenny and Ruth to watch. To Ray's mounting horror, the tape starts playing back an embarrassing section of the engagement party, with Kenny in the arms of his ex girlfriend. Kenny tries to stop the playback, but Ruth insists it continues, a picture's worth a thousand words, she says...

Episode 15
Justine steps off the train and starts her weekend at Luke's impressive country farmhouse, with enigmatic father and catty sister, Katy. Back home, Ray and his brother wake up in the usual mess, and find Ruth has gone. Eventually, while Kenny goes to try to find Ruth, Ray finds a letter in the sofa: it's from Ruth, telling him that the engagement's off. Luke's home is certainly impressive, but a little too quiet for Justine. At Nick's house Richard tries to talk about the whole Fran and Maria situation, but Nick is busy with his gardening - he's thinking of Natasha - and Richard walks off, bored: what on Earth can he find to do? He passes a circus poster, and he looks at it thoughtfully... Luke talks to Justine about Liam, and she tells him how for a long time the reality of his death hadn't seemed real. While Justine tucks into a candlelit dinner of roast Pheasant with Luke's family, and they talk about the annoyance of ramblers' rights, it's another world for Ray, eating take-away fish and chips with a zombie-like Kenny, who's lost the will to live. Finally, Kenny goes off, again, to find Ruth, and Ray goes to Nick's house for a game of cards. When he returns, he finds Ruth sitting in the living room, alone. Kenny returns, and they are about to argue - but Ray intervenes... and they are back together again. Out in the country, Luke confides in Justine that he's not sure what he wants with life. They look at the moon and he tries to kiss Justine, but she pulls away, and the romantic moment is lost. Night time: Justine sits up in bed in her room. The door opens, a bright white light behind. A figure enters. He is wearing a St. Joseph's school blazer. "Liam!" says Justine. The apparition of Liam tells Justine she must let go of the past.... The image fades, Justine blinks, and it's Luke's sister standing in the doorway, worried that Justine's talking in her sleep. Katy confides in Justine that everyone hates her, and it's Justine's turn to dish out the good advice and make friends. The two head off to the kitchen for a night-time snack. On Sunday morning, Justine says her goodbyes, promises to ring Luke, and is given a lift home. When she gets out, she bumps into Richard, who seems in a happier frame of mind. She shows him the home-grown eggs she's been given, and Richard takes four and starts juggling them...

Episode 16
The Media Room is burgled: lots of valuable equipment is missing, evidently by someone who knew there way around the school. Gabriel is in no doubt who did it, and tells Mick and Barry that the equipment was probably marked with invisible dye. Natalie brings in her saxophone, and asks her sister, Becky, to store it in her locker, because she's forgot her key. Becky also finds her key missing, and asks Nick to do it - he agrees thinking she meant it was a favour for Natasha. Maria, Justine, and Natalie hound Mr. Brisley to support their petition for fairer school rules. He won't sign, but advises them to go to the school council. Later in the day, Natalie asks for her sax back, and she in turn asks Nick for it - but then realizing she meant Natalie not Natasha, he gives her the locker key. When she opens the locker, she finds to her horror photocopied sheets of Natasha's diary! Later, at home Becky reads some of the diary contents, and finds her sister writing about how weak she thinks Becky is. Becky confides in Natalie, but won't tell where she found the diary - not until she has a chance of sorting it out herself. Mrs. Keele finds a classroom in an utter mess - Mr. Parrot admits his lesson was out of control, but wants to handle the situation in his own way. Becky confronts Nick when he's with Natasha - Natasha is only too happy to part company with Nick. Nick finally admits he's been putting up the diary photocopies, and Becky works out that he did it so that Natasha would be enemies with everyone except Nick. She agrees not to expose him, but in return he's got to stop posting the diary. Natalie works out what's upsetting Becky, and tries to get into Nick's locker. Mr. Robson catches her, and she can't explain her action, but Nick supports her vague explanation. When Mr. Robson's gone, she demands to have the diary photocopies off of him: she says that's the end of the matter, but there's another person listening from behind the lockers - Fran. In the next lesson, Fran wastes no time in grabbing the sheets, and posts up one on the noticeboard. Maria and Natalie decide enough is enough... Maria pulls out the remainder of the diary photocopies from Fran's bag - Fran admits she did post the recent ones, but only those...

The school secretary, Mrs. Mason, brings her nephew to school, Bevis who wants to supply sweets to the tuck shop. Lucy and Jodie aren't impressed, until he shows them the chocolate hearts, and they negotiate a deal. They decide to promote a "Friendship Day" to sell them. Mick and Barry use strong arm tactics to try to persuade Gary to do their art course work, but they are disturbed by the arrival of a policewoman in the playground. Nick finally comes to clean with Natasha about stealing her diary: to his surprise, she doesn't go mad at him. But, later, she questions his motives, not really believing his reason for putting up the diary. Dennis buys a friendship heart, and hides it when Andy appears. Dudley has an adaption of the "apple for teacher" idea - he spills bird-seed into Mr. Parrot's register! His class is unruly when the teacher appears, continuing to make awful puns at his expense. In the corridor, Bevis, passing by, introduces himself to Ray as an old friend of Kenny's. He tells Ray they used to call him Sting, when he was little ("Sting-ray!"). In art class, Mick shows some severe homophobia when he reads about Michelangelo. A policewoman gives a lecture about personal safety to the Year 10's. Jacko mentions that sometimes violence occurs without the parents knowing - this sounds warning bells in Mrs. Monroe, who questions him further. After they've exchanged chocolate Friendship Day hearts, Dennis finally gets round to asking out Lucy. Andy is overhearing, and tells Dennis not to worry about Lucy stalking him. In the common room, Nick gives Natasha a friendship heart. Then, Richard is about to give a juggling demonstration, egged on by a cheery Nick, when suddenly Natasha explodes with fury. She tells them they are a bunch of liars and thieves, and exposes Nick as the one who copied her diary, and then tried to buy her silence with a 20p heart. She leaves, giving back the sweet to Nick on the way out. The others follow her, leaving Nick alone in his despair. As the day draws to a close, Lucy asks Mrs. Mason if they can get some more hearts off her nephew. Maria asks Mr. Brisley for help with her art, but he tells her that he has no time, and can she call him at home. Outside, Dennis tries to shake off persistent Andy, so he can meet up with Lucy. His delay makes him too late, and he finds Lucy has already gone. When Ray goes home, he finds Bevis making a re-acquaintance with Kenny. To Ray's disgust, it seems Kenny's decided that his old friend is to become his best man...

Episode 18
Ruth's not too happy to make Bevis's acquaintance, and has no intention of him being their best man. Her decision that she wants a church wedding astounds both Kenny and Ray. Robyn has a chat with her dad about Mary, and tries to break some of his prejudice against Mary. Mrs Keele agrees to having a school charter, and Justine is tasked with collecting ideas. Mrs. Mason tells Mr. Parrott that she strongly suspects people at the Travellers' site of being responsible for the robbery. Mick and Barry threaten Gary in order to persuade him to do their GCSE Art homework. They produce some excellent drawings of themselves, but Mr. Brisley is no fool, who gets them to work alone. Barry's effort is clearly hopeless, and Mick has drawn a pansy: he explains it is a picture of Mr. Brisley. Mr. Brisley makes it clear that Mick's attitude won't be tolerated, and puts him in a week's detention. After school Mick is determined to get back at the teacher. Dudley does more of his Parrot jokes against the similarly named form teacher, who loses patience and incorrectly blames Lauren for the second time. Instead of making Dudley own up, the class decide they'll use the new charter to stop Mr. Parrott picking on Lauren and enlist Mrs. Monroe's support. Unfortunately, she's off sick, and Mr. Parrott takes her class. The first thing he sees is a note being passed to Lauren, and she is hauled out of the class, and Mr. Mackenzie is fetched. The more experienced teacher restores order easily, but there's resentment brewing. Dennis almost persuades Lucy to go out with him, but this time its she who cancels, remembering that there is football practice. Mary goes to have tea around Robyn's house, and Mr. Stone apologizes to Mary for his previous intolerance. Ray goes with Justine to try to find Ruth's uncle, to drop some patterns off for the wedding dress. They get off at the bus stop, and notice a pub they've not used before. Ray explains it's a gay bar. Mrs. Keele walks past the notice-board where the school charter suggestions have been accumulating - along side is pinned a petition signed by about 30 people to have Mr. Parrott sacked. After returning from Ruth's uncle, Ray and Justine argue as they again walk past the pub they passed before. A car pulls up, and the occupants walk towards the building - Justine and Ray are surprised to note that one of them is Mr. Brisley...

Episode 19
Justine tells Maria about suspecting Mr. Brisley to be gay, she half expected it though from speaking to his partner on the phone. Ruth is annoyed to find that most of her side of the family can't come to the wedding, because the would-be bridesmaids and page boys have come down with the mumps. Ray promises to help... Lauren's parents are on the warpath, and come into school with their daughter after Mr. Parrott twice blamed her for Dudley's antics. Bevis asks his aunt, Mrs. Mason, the school secretary, if the stolen video equipment has been replaced. Ray invites his sixth form friends to the wedding, and there slowly builds some enthusiasm, even Natalie and Natasha putting aside their differences to combine vocal forces. Fran and Maria too, end their feud to become ushers. Mr. Brisley "comes out" in the staffroom, announcing that his partner's name is Don, when Mr. Parrott's flaunting of his fiancé becomes too much, and Mr. Hankin is organizing a staff trip. Shocked silence follows his announcement. Jacko has been behaving strangely, and an off-the-cuff remark about loony bins by Brian causes him to punch his former friend. Mr. Parrott wastes no time spreading the juicy gossip about Mr. Brisley to Mrs. Mason - and Barry Timpson is standing in the doorway as it happens. He wastes no time in spreading the happy news to Mick. Meanwhile, Mr. Parrott is getting the usual treatment - the class repeating his utterances parrot-fashion. Mrs. Keele sees Lauren and her parents, but the conversation takes a strange turn when they mention Mr. Brisley - they also overheard Mr. Parrott's idle gossip. Seeing Mick playing cards for money with Dave, who calls him a black slob, Mr. Brisley puts Mick in detention, and then tells Dave he will be excluded if he uses racist language again. Mick looks at Mr. Brisley thoughtfully. Jacko makes an apology to Brian in Science, and explains his mother is in hospital. Ray gets Lucy and Lauren to be bridesmaids - but who can he persuade to be a page boy!? Wanting to be near to Lucy, Dennis readily agrees, and wanting to protect Dennis from Lucy, Andy agrees too. In break, Jacko further explains about his mother - she has had a nervous breakdown and is in a mental institution. Mrs Keele is not pleased to see the staff drinking wine, and coldly asks Mr. Parrott to see her in her office. She berates him for the incident with Lauren, and spreading gossip about Mr. Brisley, and she is horrified by his homophobic attitude when he defends himself. Mrs. Keele gives some reassurance to Mr. Brisley, but his troubles aren't over, as Barry has been spreading the word to the others due to play in the cricket match, for which the teacher is umpiring. When he steps out onto the green, he is greeted with chants of "poof", "poof", "poof". Then, remembering the teacher's anti-racist attitude earlier, Mick takes one of the chanting St. Joe's by the scruff of the neck: "He may be a poof, but he's OUR poof, so you're going to leave him alone, understand?" he says....

Episode 20
Saturday: Kenny's big day, if Ray can get him out of bed... Bevis turns up at Ray's and takes the camera. After checking on Jacko, Brian and Lee bump into Becky, and with nothing better to do, follow her. Nick and Richard go to a Young Brides store to hire some suits, but find that it's not the usual thing to go without a booking. After getting suited and booted - but unfortunately in groom and best man outfits, they persuade the limo driver to drop them off at the church. Round at Robyn's house, Mary and Becky decide to gatecrash the wedding and get into the photos. Becky warns the others that she was followed. As Ray and Kenny are about to get in the car, Kenny tries the ring on his finger - it doesn't fit. Ray explains that it's Ruth's, but then disaster strikes, as Kenny drops the ring, and it rolls into the drain. At the church, Justine exasperatedly waits for the missing Kenny, and then Kenny's ex, Vikki, appears. She makes a threatening reference to Jane Eyre, which makes no sense to the illiterate Richard and Nick - Nick wonders if Natasha would know... She explains that Vikki must intend to stop the wedding. At school, the staff prepare themselves for a trip to a the Ellen Terry memorial, a National Trust site. Back at Ray's house, the ring has been successfully retrieved from the drain, but at a cost - Ray's smart white jacket is now covered in mud. With Kenny unfit to drive after the stag night, learner driver Ray sets off at an infuriatingly slow pace. Back at the church, the bride to be has arrived, with a small army of embarrassed page boys and bridesmaids, but the vicar seems to be confused about the groom, thinking it's Richard, and starts the wedding prematurely. As Kenny and Ray turn up, Maria and Fran sit either side of Vikki, ready for action. Kenny bursts in and Ruth questions him about the missing camera, the absence of flowers, and Ray's unsuitable red lounge lizard jacket. Meanwhile, Bevis distracts a florists and grabs a pile of flowers, running off. At this time, the staff have gone nowhere fast, their van having a flat tyre. When they load on the spare, they are stopped by the Old Bill, because the replacement tyre is bald. Becky and her friends have been leading Jacko's gang on a merry dance, and have finally arrived in the grounds of the church. As the vicar asks if anyone has any reasons for the marriage not to take place, Vikki tries to rise and speak but is held firmly down, and muted by the combined forces of Maria, Fran, Richard and Nick. At the same moment, Bevis comes in with the flowers, and trips headlong as he does so. The service concludes with Natasha and Natalie singing "Amazing Grace" together and Kenny trying to spell "mechanic" as he writes his occupation into the register. With the wedding service over, the guests come out. It's an opportunity for Dennis to finally explain to Andy about Lucy, and Jacko arrives and tells the others that his mother is a little more like her old self. It seems that Grange Hill's staff are opposite the church, trying to be unseen in their embarrassing predicament with the police, but the law is more interested in the flower thief - Bevis. Apparently Mrs. Mason's errant nephew's van was found to contain a stolen camcorder, and other video equipment. Kenny, Ruth, and Ray (still needed as a driver) head off in the car, and Mrs. Mason catches the bouquet. "Oh look, there's the little gypsy girl, I hope the vicar's locked the church," she says, just before the police grab Bevis, and take Mrs. Mason in too - for receiving stolen property (the bouquet was, after all, stolen!). The denizens of Grange Hill pour out the church gate, waving to the car as Ruth and Kenny are driven away.
