Episode 1
Matthew's first day isn't helped by his sister's foreboding talk of "putting his head down the toilets". Ziggy's worried that his dad may move back to Liverpool. Freddie now has two sisters at the school. He finds out that Julia has moved away, and wastes no time on making advances on Laura. Gonch considers the new intake of first formers to be potential customers for the rental of his sturdy bike chain. Misdirecting the first formers becomes a new game to the old-hands of Grange Hill. There's also a new head of sports - Mr. Peter Robson starts, and he seems to be quite a different kettle of fish to Mr. Scott. It looks like there's a thief on the premises, with the loss of numerous items. Coincidentally (or not) a 1st year with a troubled history has started at the school.

Episode 2

Helen's dare is to admit to Mr. Bronson that she watched TV. instead of doing her homework. Georgina's dare is to drop something in the baked beans, and she pushes a salt cellar in. Mrs. Reagan has organized keep-fit classes for the other women teacher, but Gonch. Ziggy and Robbie are hiding in the gym. They are pleased with themselves when the fitness session ends, except they find themselves locked in. In the lunchtime disco, Ronnie reveals a new talent - making her own music tapes.

Episode 4
Helen and Georgina's dares continue - Helen kisses all the boys, and Georgina pretends to faint in woodwork class. Gonch forgets his P.E. kit, and immediately thinks of a lucrative reminder and rental service. Danny Kendall is reluctant to play football practice and then walks off in the middle of the lesson. Calley's bump-reading causes a rumour to spread about nits. Justine saves Tegs from Mauler's clutches, but he doesn't seem grateful afterwards. Fiona takes Ronnie to the Fun House, a hip-hop club, where they run into Danny Kendall. Fiona reveals that she has made her own rap number, and gives a quick demo. Back at school, Justine finds her locker open, but rather than anything missing, a pair of flash earrings have been left...

Episode 5
Gonch's PE Kit schemes, now making use of the school computers, become ever more complex. Clarke grows ever more suspicious of Matthew's stories about his father. A truant officer finds Trevor Cleaver out of school, but he gives his name as "Vince Savage." Robbie rescues Calley from Mauler, and is imprisoned in a huge bunch of chairs. Mr. Robson's crash helmet goes missing, and a locker search is made. It turns up in Mauler's, but he claims innocence, while there is a suspicious smirk on Tegs' face. Georgina's next dare is to put food colouring on her face, and Helen follows suit - but it's ill-timed, as Mrs. McClusky comes into the cookery class at the same moment, and the dyes won't come off in a hurry...

Episode 6
Mrs. McClusky interrogates the "Grid Iron" crew about Mr. Robson's crash helmet found in Mauler's locker. Matthew's glamorous description of his weekend doesn't seem to ring true to Clarke, and he behaves oddly in P.E, pretending to be sick. Mr. Robson's non-competitive stance for football starts to annoy soccer captain Freddie Mainwaring. The PE Reminder service gets stopped when Mr. Robson gets a phone call from a parent. Fiona and Ronnie come up with the name "Fresh and Fly" for their rap partnership. Gonch comes round to Ronnie's house while they are practising, but isn't made to feel welcome, so instead works his charms on Ronnie's mum...

Episode 7
Tegs distracts the "Grid Iron" crew from harassing Matthew and leads them a merry dance round the school before ending up in a service duct. The gang think they've cornered him in a toilet, and water bomb the cubicle, but it's Mr. Bronson who gets soaked! When biology discusses the life cycle of insects, Susi and Chrissie take the opportunity to put maggots on mauler's dinner. Tegs tells Justine about his family's errant ways, and offers to show her how a burglary is done. He shoplifts something from a boutique for her, but she doesn't want anything to do with it. Helen's latest dare is a tattoo of a butterfly on her shoulder.

Episode 8
Mr. Griffiths takes Tegs to Mr. McClusky accusing him of suspicious behaviour around the bicycles. She asks the staff to show some consideration, as there's no evidence to support any accusations. Matthew's lies lose some believability when he says his mother is suffering from dry rot. Mauler falls foul of Mr. Bronson when he realizes who soaked him in the lavatory. In the next lesson, the teacher gets Mauler to tell the class what he did in French. He says (in translation) "Mr Bronson, in boy's bedroom, with basket of water on the head". Helen's finding it difficult keeping the butterfly tattoo hidden from her mum. After school, Matthew offers Clarke a lift, but then his dad refuses to agree to it.

Episode 9
Gonch's PE Service is failing to deliver and the 5th form are taking revenge on anyone they can find. The boys expand the service by washing the sports strips, and doing girls' sportswear too, as long as they can persuade Ronnie and Calley to do the laundry! Mr. Robson pins up notices advising of the "Access Club", sporting activities for everyone, including dance, but Freddie thinks this will mean less time for football practice. Helen is beginning to regret her impulsive tattoo, and everyone in the school seems to know about it. Danny's back, and immediately avoids the first P.E. lesson by going to an extra art lesson. Meanwhile, Gonch adds some of Mr. Robson's stash of shirts into the stack of available stock - the only trouble is that one of the 5th formers gets a shirt belonging to the sports teacher himself...

Episode 10
Gonch comes to school in a neck support, as a result of Mauler's gang's attentions. Freddie and his cronies hide and watch the first dance lesson, but they are caught and made to take part pretending to be animals. In woodwork, marker pens go missing, and Mr. Mackenzie gets furious because of damage and loss of materials. Danny Kendall is in trouble again for late appearances. People kid Vince that Helen wants to meet him at the bike sheds, but he finds Mauler and his gang waiting for him. They chain him to the sheds, and remove his precious American Football shirt. At Calley's home, her mother is astonished to find the house full of shirts she's washing. Laura goes round to Louise's house for her birthday, but is all dressed up to fool her mother, as she can't bear the though of spending the evening with her mother's nauseous boyfriend.

Episode 11
The PE service falls into complete chaos as customers turn up and find no strips available. Gonch brings things under control, until Terrance Parker turns up, and head-butts him. Wearing fruit badges with messages on them becomes the latest fad, and gives Justine an opportunity to ask Tegs to spend lunch with her. In the first years' assembly, Mrs. Reagan asks everyone to be on the lookout for thieves, as more and more things are going missing. Fed up with washing PE kits, and rapidly losing money, Ziggy comes up with an idea requiring less effort - security marking, using special pens (borrowed from woodwork class) and the school computer. Ronnie and Fiona have decided that Danny Kendall will be too green to do their Hip-hop mixing, but don't want to hurt his feelings. There is a competition they intend to enter, and go to meet Fiona's friend Wesley. He agrees to do them a Hip-hop mix, but mentions graphics for their Fresh & Fly act - on the spur of the moment, they say that Danny Kendall will do it. Fred and his mates make fun of the non-competitive "Access Club", and are berated by Mr. Robson. Ziggy, Gonch and Robbie, find Mauler is on his own, and in revenge for Gonch's damaged nose, head off in pursuit. Exiting the building, they collide with Mr. Bronson, knocking his wig off. Gonch approaches the girls about some financial support to their flailing PE venture. Calley seems reluctant, but Ronnie forks out some money - in return for Gonch's dad providing the van for their Hip-hop gear for the forthcoming competition.

Episode 12
Ronnie "borrows" ten pounds from her mother (without her knowing) for the Hip-hop competition. At the launderette Ziggy gives the non-functioning drinks machine a thump and it maliciously squirts coffee all over his trousers. He simply adds it to the already full load, incurring further wrath from the launderette helper, who's not pleased to find shoes being dried. At the shopping precinct, while waiting for Fiona, Ronnie sees Calley and others shoplifting - it's all part of the ongoing dares between the girls. Meanwhile Laura has got dressed up for a special dinner party at home. Laura's old friend Julia, tanned after a trip abroad, turns up. Ronnie and Fiona wait for Gonch's dad to turn up with transport for their equipment, for the Hip-hop competition, but he turns up with a rag and bone man's horse and cart! At the Fun House, various people from Grange Hill arrive, including Trevor, and Mauler and his gang, and the competition gets underway. At Laura's party, although there is something of an age divide at the meal, things seem to be going fairly well. Julia offers to do the washing up - Simon comes into the kitchen - and then makes a pass at her. Julia tells Laura, but they keep quiet about the incident, and Julia finds her own way home. Back at the Hip-hop competition, Fresh and Fly take their turn, and then the winner is judged - the girls don't win, and there's disbelief from Gonch and the rest who realize that they won't be paid. Everyone makes a hasty exit before either Wesley or the Rag and Bone man notice.

Episode 13
Ronnie is very nervous around her mother, because she took her Rainy Day money for the Hip-hop competition. Chrissy's new fruit badges are popular, until they fall foul of Mr. Bronson, but Miss Booth is impressed. Susi's reversible top, with a legend on one side is brought to the attention of Mrs. McClusky. Matthew Pearson turns up seemingly in a world of his own. He says he's forgotten his PE kit, but Mr. Robson has a spare set. When he takes his shirt off, on his own, vicious weals are revealed... Helen's tattoo has been discovered by her mum, and she bitterly regrets having it done. Miss Booth finds her crying in the toilet and tries to reassure her that it's not the end of the world. Calley goes to the dentist, and finds out she'll have to wear a brace. Louise tells Laura how she saw Simon coming on to Julia at the party. Matthew goes home alone, but there's no-one in when he knocks. He goes round the side of the house, and finds the other door also closed. As he waits for his father, Clarke turns up and talks about when he had to stay in a foster home. When Matthew's father does arrive, Matthew enters the house quickly, leaving Clarke alone outside.

Episode 14
Justine's creative new hairstyle doesn't meet Mrs. McClusky's approval and she is sent home. Laura can't decide whether to tell her mother about Simon's bad behavior at the party, she's about to do so, then bottles out. There's more friction when Mr. Robson includes what Freddie considers to be poor players in the football practice. To his horror, he's told that Grange Hill is going to opt out of competitive inter-school matches. In the girls' changing room, Susi faints when she's asked to change - or is she pretending? Tegs waits for Justine - why does everyone giggle behind their backs? They find matching fruit badges have been stuck to their backs. While Fred and Laura work out ways of protesting about Mr. Robson's non-competitive policies, one of the games teacher's other pupils thanks him for the opportunity of playing. After school, Chrissy has a reassuring talk with Susi. Susi explains she does not want to get undressed in front of the others, because she has started her periods. Tegs takes Justine "home" - he has a surprisingly posh house, and seems not to know where anything is located. Justine is immediately suspicious and when someone comes up the path with an Alsatian dog, Tegs grabs Justine, and they make a run for it!

Episode 15
The Music Club is cancelled when all the recorders are stolen - and everyone immediately regards Tegs with suspicion. Mr. Griffiths sees Ziggy and Robbie collecting money for their bike security operation, and concludes they are extorting money. Gonch suggests that Ronnie sells tapes in the precinct to raise money. She'd like to do a paper round, but her mother forbids it. Ziggy collects a set of people to jump Mauler, including Trevor who has taken up weight-lifting. Tegs takes Justine to his real home - a real tip, and reveals to her that he had reading difficulties, which is why he ignored her note. While Ziggy gathers his troops to pounce on Mauler, Mr. Griffiths has acquired some staff to catch what he perceives to be wrong-doers in the bike sheds. Ronnie meets Calley and Helen while she is trying to sell her tapes: they suggest she would do better shoplifting like they've been doing so successfully. She goes into a boutique and steals some clothes. Meanwhile Mauler approaches the bike sheds where Ziggy is waiting, apparently only with Robbie, and at the same time, Mr. Griffiths waits with Mr Bronson. Vince appears from nowhere and lobs a water bomb into Mauler's face. What follows is complete pandemonium which ends when Mr. Griffiths and helpers apprehend Ziggy and Robbie, who protest their innocence. Back at the boutique, Ronnie is about to leave when the security alarm goes off, and she is taken into the back of the shop by the manager. The police arrive and take her away to the station...

Episode 16
Laura agrees to the passive-resistance idea for her hockey class. Miss Booth has arranged for Helen to see a dermatologist about her tattoo. Justine (hair once again coloured!) talks to Chrissy about Tegs, and wants her to get the message through to Mrs Reagan about his learning disability. Ronnie doesn't turn up, and Calley works out that she's been caught shoplifting. She talks to Helen and Georgina and they decide they'll confess their shoplifting, because it may help Ronnie's position. In football practice, Mr. Robson is amazed when Freddie and his friends pussyfoot around with the ball, and in the corresponding hockey session, the girls lie down on their back. In woodwork, Matthew causes equipment to be damaged - and then runs off after Mr. Mackenzie tells him off. He storms into the toilet and the door smashes into Vince on the other side. Inside, Matthew finally explains about how he is scared to go home: his father has been getting drunk, and violent. Mr. Mackenzie takes the boy to Mrs. McClusky to sort things out. Outside the school, a disconsolate Gonch gives up waiting for Fiona, and passes by Matthew's dad who is sitting his car.

Episode 17
Ronnie's back after her shoplifting ordeal and finds a surprisingly understanding Mr. Bronson waiting. Robbie plucks up the courage to ask Calley out, but Calley's in a world of her own, racked with guilt about her part in encouraging her friend, and embarrassed about the braces on her teeth. Gonch talks to Ziggy about his latest idea - babysitting. The idea requires acquiring some "business partners" - some make-believe girlfriends. Ziggy rather tactlessly asks Freddie for some of his cast-offs while Laura is listening. While Ronnie speaks to Mrs. McClusky, Helen and Georgina burst in, and tell of their part in the shoplifting. Justine finally persuades Tegs to go to a remedial class for reading. Laura has an argument with her mother and comes close to telling him about Simon - but she already seems to be getting fed up with him. Gonch has the first babysitting lined up, and Ziggy is forced to make the acquaintance of Karen for the night. The kids prove to be a little tough to handle, and Karen seems to view the evening as more than a business venture... When he spurns her advances, and tells her she has "hollow legs", because she keeps eating, she walks out. When he goes upstairs he finds the kids have disappeared, but Gonch appears and calms him down.

Episode 18
Mrs. McClusky and Mrs Reagan has an early morning meeting with Matthew's mother and social worker. It seems to be a day for friends falling out with each other: Ziggy falls out with Robbie and Calley in turn gets angry with Ronnie - all because of the braces on Calley's teeth. There's a meeting with the staff about the non-competitive sports issues - and Freddie finds his thunder has been stolen - Mrs. McClusky tells him that they are playing for the cup after all. Mr Robson sticks up for Fred, who was otherwise in danger of being excluded from playing because of his previous protests. Laura finds her mum in tears because Simon has not been in touch, and won't answer the phone. Ziggy and Gonch persuade Helen and Georgina to participate in the babysitting franchise, for a share of the profits. Mrs. McClusky takes Helen, Georgina and Calley back to the scene of their crime to meet the store manager. After school, Helen does the first babysitting session with Gonch, while Robbie waits at the burger bar for Calley. Waiting for the cinema to open, Mrs. Reagan is out with Laura when she spots Simon (with new girlfriend) in the queue ahead. Also in the queue are Ronnie and Fiona: they have spotted a wallet, bulging with money, on the pavement. Fiona is adamant they want to hand it in - but mindful of her recent troubles, Ronnie would rather not be involved. Inside the cinema, Mrs. Regan's boyfriend Simon is getting in a state about his "stolen" wallet. Mrs. Regan steps in, and with a few sarcastic comments returns his wallet. Back at the burger bar, with no sign of Calley, Robbie finally gives up the wait, and heads off on the bus - just as Calley runs across the road...

Episode 19
Ronnie goes to the police station, and gets a nerve-wracking interview about her shoplifting. She is let off with a caution, and a warning that any further misdemeanours would be dealt with in a more serious fashion. Helen goes to a specialist about her tattoo, but he is pessimistic, because it's so large, and tells her there would be a long wait, and a scar as a result. Robbie seems to be missing, and his friends are anxious to get Robbie and Calley together after the non-event the day before. Ziggy asks Trevor to pass on the word - but he has his own agenda as regards Calley, and has no intention of helping the romance along. Meanwhile Robbie has found Mauler's den, and has a bucket of water ready. After asking Ronnie out to the pictures, Gonch tells her about the crèche idea, and tells her he couldn't afford to take her out, unless he can make some cash first. After the semi-final match against St. Joe's (where, to Freddie's disgust, Grange Hill come a poor second) Robbie rounds up Ziggy and some others to go to Mauler's hideout. They erect a net outside the door, and tip water through the skylight. Mauler and his gang, soaked, rush out and a skirmish ensues. Calley, waiting at the burger bar, has a surprise in store when smartly-dressed Vince turns up. Ronnie, making a hasty exit from the ill-feted crèche, arrives at the burger bar, and finds that Calley is actually quite happy at being courted by Vince; while Robbie, arriving shortly after, can't believe his bad luck...

Episode 20
It's "wear what you like" day, on the last day of term, and an outside prize-giving fête has been organized. Mauler is concentrating on how to get revenge on Ziggy for being soaked. It's Ziggy's last day before his family moves back to Liverpool. Calley makes it clear to Robbie that it is him she likes, and not Vince. Ziggy, Robbie and Gonch use the face painting idea that is accompanying festivities as a way to confuse Mauler and his troops. The teachers dress up too - Mr. Bronson and Mr. Griffiths in colonial outfits, Mrs. McClusky in her Little Bo Peep outfit (once again) and Laura is shocked to see her mother in a cheerleader costume. Mrs. Reagan is waylaid by Matthew's mother, who's just been through an acrimonious ordeal at court: her estranged husband has not taken Mrs. Pearson's victory to look after her son with good grace. Outside, Fred is awarded his "Poser" award, created by Helen and Georgina. As Fred gives his acceptance speech, Mr. Griffiths notices a thieving arm grab a camera off the stage, and sets off in pursuit. Mr. Robson joins forces, and they nab Tegs, who protests innocence - and points the finger at the real thief - a 5th year who is escaping into a tent. He's brought to the ground by Mr. Robson's flying tackle. Fresh and Fly give a performance of their hip-hop, with some new topical lyrics. Meanwhile, Ziggy has a new tactic for Mauler-avoidance - he adopts Mauler's gang's own face-paint design, and infiltrates their huddle. There's a final mad dash, as Ziggy runs from Mauler, and he catches a bus, with a defiant shout that he might be back after all!
