Steve's new patient, a young Aboriginal baby boy, is near to death from dehydration and Steve organises for him to be transferred to hospital immediately. Julie decides to update her nursing qualifications by returning to the hospital where she originally trained. Her replacement at the surgery ruffles a few feather due to her gaudy fashion sense and her lack of social diplomacy. Michael takes a special liking to her and, when his feelings are welcomed, Michael faces the possibility of losing his virginity. While at the hospital, Julie witnesses first-hand the inadequate staffing and lack of support available to the nurses, which culminates in a nurses' strike throughout the hospital. At first Julie opposes the action, until she finds herself in a situation in which the nurses' conditions result in the death of two patients - at which point, Julie joins in the strike action.
