David and Larry get nominated for the Outstanding Radio Personality Golden Mikey radio award separately, instead of as a team. Jealousy rears its ugly head, causing a rift between them. When Larry leaves the room during the interview and the columnist asks David how he feels about the award competition, he makes a joke about Larry owing him more (he recently loaned him five bucks). His comment gets taken out of context (it infers that Larry is like Edgar Bergen's dummy Charlie McCarthy) and Larry gets angry at him. David tries to diffuse the situation by voting for Larry, but Larry also votes for himself. Larry also forgets to mention an important pre-awards cocktail party to David. Roland Hutton, the station owner David and Larry work for, is the president of the Radio Academy and master of ceremonies at the award dinner, which also causes some strain. He announces that, for the first time in the history of the awards, there is a tie. When David and Larry hear this, they assume they are the winners and let out emotional screams, but Mr. Hutton announces two other names. Later he tells them they came in fourth and fifth.
