Having left the NHS to become a carer for private health firm Buccaneer Kim is still having money problems, as is her husband, limo driver Dave, not helped by having their teen-age children, Kelly and schoolboy father Max, living with them. Things get worse when Kim burns her uniform and has to buy another one and Dave is fined for inadvertently allowing family members, including the dog and one of Kim's charges, to ride in his car. Kim's sister Jackie has the solution - sell their elderly mother's house and let her move in with them.

The bungalow is sold but, following a stroke, Kim and Jackie's mother is in a care home, which is proving very costly. Jackie joins Kim on her rounds to discuss the matter, and finds it depressing, but nothing is resolved. Meanwhile Dave struggles with a new SatNav and considers working in Iraq though he is pleasantly surprised by a client's unexpected generosity.

The financial burden is lifted as Kim's mother qualifies for NHS funding but the return home of elder son Ryan is not wholly welcomed by the family, especially when they taste his cooking. Kim is outraged by Buccaneer's inefficiency but even more so to learn that they are winding down, leaving her out of work, whilst a fed up Dave has also quit his job and the perfect day is rounded off by a row with Jackie and the dog being sick.
