Episode 1
When schoolgirl Helly runs out of class distraught, Kitty Killin is surprised to be asked by her teacher to go after her. Puzzled as to why she has been picked, she soon discovers the reason why when Helly reveals that her mother plans to remarry. It is then that Kitty tells her of her own experiences of when her mother brought home a new boyfriend, a man she immediately despised and who she nicknames "Goggle Eyes."
Episode 2
Kitty is horrified when her mother Rosalie moves new boyfriend Gerald into the family home. His habits and views irritate her as much as the fact that her younger sister Jude seems to like him. Determined to break up her mother's relationship no matter what, she bribes Jude to assist her in her campaign, but Gerald - or "Goggle Eyes" as she dubs him - proves harder to get rid of than she thought.
Episode 3
Gerald joins the girls and their mother on a environmental protest at a development site, but when Rosalie gets arrested it is Gerald who is on hand when they need him most. Kitty starts to see Gerald in a new light as he looks after them, but when their mother comes home on bail a terrible row erupts between them that threatens to ruin it all.
Episode 4
The Killin family are struggling to pick up the pieces after Gerald's departure. Rosalind is struggling in particular, and with her facing a prison sentence over her actions at the environmental protest the girls face a bleak future. In desperation the girls decide to look for Gerald in the hope that he can do something.
