Hearing hip-hop performer Lil Stinker use a Girls5eva song as backup to his latest track, Dawn believes her usually non-existent royalty check will at least be existent this month. In picking it up from Larry, she decides to drop Summer and Gloria's checks off for them out of circumstance. She doesn't expect to see them, but they do reconnect after all these years. They learn that Lil Stinker has booked an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (2014), with Jimmy Fallon thinking it would be good publicity for Girls5eva to sing backup live. Despite their apprehension--it's been 20 years--all three of them realize that each needs this gig for different reasons, but they know they can't do it without Wickie--they need her vocal harmonies. But Wickie doesn't even live in New York City anymore, and even if she did, she probably wouldn't want to perform with them again; she's got a successful Asian-targeted clothing business that supports her jet-setting lifestyle--witness her social-media feeds!-and she was the one who abandoned them and never apologized for what happened 20 years ago.

To use Scott's terminology, Wickie's presence in his and Dawn's home is "palpable" in they allowing her to stay temporarily while Girls5eva tries to get itself back on its feet, with what she shipping out from California - "only the essentials" - being a little more unwieldy in the their apartment than they would like. In their first strategizing meeting, the four decide to go back to first principles in what made them successful the first time around, with the short term goal of appearing at the Jingle Ball at Christmas, the last time they were asked being 2001 when they were ultimately bumped from the lineup. At the foundation of that success is what they coined "D'wasg", their mojo. But at those first principles, they aren't sure whether or not they want Larry in the picture, either in his former role of being the decision maker or in any other capacity. But getting rid of Larry from the act and their lives may be more difficult than they envision.

Alf Musik

The girls learn the hard way that Larry owns the rights to all Girls5eva's past material including the songs meaning that they can't use the songs now for any commercial purpose without his permission and hence his cut. Not even knowing it at the time, they discover that who wrote all their old songs is Alf Musik, songwriter to all the biggest name pop acts. So they believe that Alf as their songwriter is the key to their comeback. However getting a meeting with reclusive Alf is the first hurdle, and even if they can get a meeting with him, they meshing as a songwriting/performing act combination may not work this second time around in they all being twenty years older and living in a different era than the first time. Meanwhile, Dawn reaches a conundrum between her personal and professional lives. She and Scott have actively been trying to have a second child in their long term family plan. But the musical comeback becomes a priority which may supplant the want for that second child, despite Dawn learning that not having that second child may result in Max being the stereotypical, gasp, "New York lonely boy".

Dawn is having trouble writing a song for the group that speak their truth, even following all the rules that she's heard Dolly Parton, follows, and putting too much pressure on herself. Wickie has just started dating twenty-something Cray, wanting to turn the tables on all the older, powerful men who took advantage of them in their early career and finally be the one who will dictate what happens between them, especially when to call it all off. Believing he has long been the male version of Wickie, Nick, by her side, tries to analyze the situation for her benefit. And Kev is just about to return to New York for his short monthly visit. Without coming right out and telling her that all is not right in their marriage, Gloria tries to be there for Summer. Summer must decide what to do when, following Gloria's advice, she discovers evidence that Kev has been cheating on her.

Catskills

The four have decided to embark on a retreat to write a Jingle Ball worthy anthem, they vowing not to emerge until said song is written. Through AirBnB, Wickie has rented an isolated cabin in the Catskills for the purpose, which may be too much a temptation for Gloria in not having been to the Catskills since she and Caroline divorced in Caroline accepting a job at Cornell. In stalking Caroline in the hopes of reuniting, Gloria, the hard working one, examines her life in relation to her history with Girls5eva. At the cabin, Dawn and Wickie try to keep Summer preoccupied with a meaningless task to distract her from what they consider her useless intrusions in the song writing process. Summer being equally inept in that task has unexpected consequences. They have another distraction from the song writing process when they break into the cabin's locked owner's closet in looking for a bandage, with Dawn, the supposed chill one, needing to act upon what they unexpectedly find inside the closet.

Cease and Desist

Girls5eva has booked its first paying gig, Y2Gay, a Pride event, there where they plan to debut their new song, 4 Stars. Because of her homosexual orientation, the other three vow to make it Gloria's day in she never having been to a Pride event, that is if Dawn can get her mojo back in having a last minute case of self-doubt the result of something Scott implies to her. Gloria's day may also not happen because they discover on the day of the event that for whatever reason Wickie is deemed the gay icon of the group, the status in which Wickie plans to revel. The event looks like it won't turn out the way any of them had envisioned for a variety of reasons, which is only exacerbated when Scott, who wants to support Dawn, comes to a realization about their relationship.
Episode 7
A.I.R.P.I.G.

With some online buzz and enough new songs written largely by Dawn to fill a proverbial album, the four believe the next step in their comeback and making it to the Jingle Ball is to get their songs, most specifically Four Stars, some radio play. Wickie comes up with the idea for them to attend A.I.R.P.I.G. - the Association of Integrated Radio Programmers International Group - in Tampa, where four hundred deejays will be in attendance. In their first go 'round, Larry had them attend and by the end of the week, Girls5eva was all over the radio. Upon their arrival in Tampa, they find that deejays won't even give them the time of day unless they have representation. Refusing to go back to Larry, they shoot for the stars in attempting to get a meeting with Nance Trace, the hottest agent who is also in attendance. Even if they can arrange a meeting with Nance, they might not like her response. And much like the Catskills was Gloria's chance to reconnect with Caroline, Tampa is Summer's chance to spend more time with Kev beyond his infrequent trips to New York, she never having been there before. Catching Kev in more lies places their marriage in a different perspective for Summer.

Separ8 Ways

With Wickie having taken the non-singing judging gig on "American Warrior Singer" in Atlanta under Nance's management, Dawn, Gloria, and Summer are left to decide if they can, or want to, keep Girls5eva together without Wickie, having necessarily attempted the comeback without their first-time leader, Ashley. Even if they do decide to keep the group together with just the three of them, or try to find a replacement for Wickie, they must keep themselves financially solvent outside the group; this is especially important to Summer, who has only ever made money from Girls5eva or as part of the short-lived "Summer and Kev", and the divorce is sucking up what little money she has. Deep in their hearts, all four want Girls5eva more now than they did the first time, but real life and opportunity might not be working in their favor.
