Episode 1
An elderly Jewish man, a survivor of the German concentration camps, becomes obsessed with the arrival of the West German President for a state reception in London. His desire for revenge leads to an assassination plot.

Episode 2

The Victory Movement, led by Sir Arthur Vane, is a political organisation that has fascist policies such as keep Britain white. It is contesting the next election, which has caused violent protests. When a bomb is exploded outside Vane's apartment Gideon is in charge of the investigation. The obvious suspects are his political opponents. A young woman is a possible witness but she has to be found and convinced to say what she knows. Another bomb makes the case more urgent.

Fires are being set at random in south London, all in abandoned properties, until one kills some squatters,and C.I.D. looks into it. The arsonist is a quiet, seemingly normal man who's gone psycho after a fire killed his loved ones.

A stable hand is beaten to death and, in his dying confession, he says he was beaten up because he was asked to dope a horse. Gideon is asked to investigate race fixing at the local racecourse. When a trainer comes under financial pressure from bookies and has some unexpected personal expenses, he decides to accept a bribe to nobble one of his horses. Unusual betting trends alert the authorities that something is happening and Gideon visits the track to find out what is happening. He then devises a plan to catch the crooks.

A serial murderess is on the loose, a woman that poses as a housekeeper that preys on OAPs with money. She eludes capture by her penchant for disguises.
Episode 6
The new husband of Inspector Keen's girlfriend's best friend has the worst luck - his wives keep turning up dead. When it's discovered that he's using aliases, suspicions arise and lead to a CID investigation.

Episode 7

The victim of a car accident gives a death bed statement that says a man murdered his first wife with an overdose of morphine. Gideon is determined to prove the man is a killer but the court case doesn't quite go as planned.
Episode 8
Gideon's car almost hits a young pick-pocket, who is being controlled by his mother. This leads him to investigate a fence who is controlling the petty crime but arrogantly believes he is above the law. When the fence is stabbed, there is one obvious suspect but there are lots of others who didn't like him. Gideon is determined to stop the pick-pocket ring.
Episode 9
A series of warehouse robberies are led by a creepy albino mastermind who obsesses over a pet rat. After a night watchman is killed during a heist, one of CID's veteran detectives suspects and then goes after him, with violent results.
Episode 10
A middle-age couple commit a small time crime once a month and live off the swag, but after a threatening visit from Gideon, they plan one last grand heist to retire on.
Episode 11
An unassuming clerk is stalked by man trying to kill him. His girlfriend becomes a pest until Gideon investigates personally. He finds several others from the firm had sudden deaths in the same way- falling into an underground train's path.

Episode 12
A group of thieves successfully steal a £1 000 000 shipment of gold from an Aeroflot plane that has just landed from Moscow. It was very well organised and Gideon is in charge of finding the criminals. One of the drivers involved is quickly found but proving his involvement is difficult. Only a few people knew about the shipment and that is where the police start looking. The thieves also start falling out amongst themselves, which makes it easier for Gideon.

Episode 13

Jerry Blake leads a gang of thugs that is determined to move into the territory of another gang lead by Frank Romano. They wreck the shop of barber Tony Mazzo and demand he change who he pays protection money to. Lead by his wife, Lollo, Frank seems reluctant to retaliate that upsets his gang members. Instead, Lollo wants to seduce Henry Waldo, who works at a bank and is in charge of burning old money. Gideon is brought in by the local constabulary to end the gang warfare, which could escalate when Blake stabs one of Romano's gang.
Episode 14

Two criminals escape from Strangeways Prison with a carefully executed plan. One, Benson, is a violent gangster who kills a car park attendant during the escape. He has sworn vengeance on his wife for helping the police. His son, however, idolises him and believes he was falsely accused. The escapees are helped by their friends to get to London to help him with his plan of revenge. He abducts his son to make his wife sick with worry.
Episode 15
Jeff Grant is auditing the books of a racing car driver, Bruce Carroway. During a fight over some missing money, Grant is accidentally killed by the driver. Bruce and his mechanic, Eric Little, then proceed to cover up the killing by placing misleading clues and establishing themselves an alibi. However, to Gideon the clues all point in one direction. Another murder is committed as Carroway and Little do their best to keep their alibi intact.
Episode 16

There is corruption in the building industry. It is being engineered by one of the co-owners of a building company and a henchman that he employs. A clerk for a building company had been murdered and another clerk is bribed to perjure himself in court. The other co-owner was unaware of what was going on and confronts his partner when he finds out. There is another murder as the criminals attempt to cover their tracks.

Episode 17
Netta's husband, Michael, has a big win on the football pools but then disappears. It appears as though he has run off but he is actually the victim of foul play. The clues come together and the murderer is uncovered.

Episode 18

Gideon is under pressure to catch a masked prowler who is attacking young women and cutting off a lock of their hair. The criminal is a young man, Alan Campbell-Gore, whose fiancée, Wendy, has committed suicide. Alan is being controlled by his domineering mother who has little sympathy for him. He returns to his Wendy's flat and ends up striking up a relationship with the new tenant, Marjorie. However, a fight with his mother drives him to do one last attack with a dramatic conclusion.

Episode 19

The Balaclava Silver consists of 100s of pieces of expensive silver crockery and is the regimental silver of a proud Scottish regiment that was a part of The Thin Red Line at the Battle of Balaclava. The pieces are gradually being stolen from the regiment and replaced with fake replicas. Suspecting an inside job, the regimental general wants Gideon to find out who is stealing the silver pieces. To complicate the investigation, it must be done discretely to avoid any public scandal.

Episode 20

A stockbroker, Todd, has joined forces with a safe cracker, Casey, and are breaking open the safe of a wealthy couple when they are disturbed by the Italian au pair. Todd beats the woman seriously and she eventually dies. The next night, they are disturbed by the police committing another robbery and Casey is arrested. His wife goes after Todd looking for the money Casey is owed but then she is killed. The problem is getting Casey to grass on his accomplice. It becomes more complicated when he has a self-inflicted injury, which his lawyer blames on Gideon.

Episode 21
A rich American family arrives in London with a charming boyfriend for their daughter they met on the trip over. They never suspect he's part of an elaborate plot to kidnap their daughter until it's too late, and the parents are conflicted as to calling in Scotland Yard for help.

Episode 22

After a beautiful blonde is found murdered, her story is unraveled in flashbacks about her relationship to her posh girl's school friends and instructors, her troubled beau, and with a drug pusher seething with contempt.

A 15 year-old boy, Chris, in fear of his life accidentally shoots a hood, Mick, that was about to stab him. His father is the local police surgeon who saves Mick's life but he is overbearing and oppressive towards his son. Chris then goes on the run and teams up with a young escapee from a nearby borstal who had been done for robbery. Events escalate when Mick's father finds out where Chris is hiding.

Episode 24
The Carter brothers run a garage but mainly deal in stolen cars. A nosy neighbour, Tiny Bray, is determined to catch them doing something illegal in revenge for being falsely imprisoned. He contacts Gideon with news of some important evidence but is severely beaten and killed by Syd Carter before he has a chance to give the information. A young woman is a witness but is too afraid to give evidence. Gideon and Keen lay a clever trap for him and he is arrested. Red Carter, his brother, swears revenge and sets out to have the witness killed and his brother released.

Episode 25
Bill and Winifred are having their troubles together, she wants more than he can provide. She pushes his buttons and he responds by slapping her. Winnie is also fighting with her step-father. When she is found stabbed to death the next day, Bill is the immediate suspect when his knife and footprint are found at the scene. Bill's sister, Mary, is a friend of Gideon's daughter and she asks Gideon to investigate. Gideon is suspicious and sends Keen out to question the witnesses, where several inconsistencies come to light. Then Mary does her own investigating, uncovering more evidence.

Episode 26
A group of bored and rich young people go from endless pot and booze parties aboard a houseboat to violent crimes in the city. Their creepy leader has an obsessive hate for middle class morality, and calls their misdeeds "giggles".
