Donnie and Mel each seek some sort of revenge: Donnie sues Daphne, and then threatens to sue Frasier as well for his part in the affair; Mel promises Niles his divorce, but only after he agrees to put in some public appearances with her as newlyweds.

Frasier spies an attractive woman while traveling on a bus in the rain. He is not quick enough to introduce himself before she disembarks, but he does hear enough of her conversation to gather that her name is Miranda, and she works at a retirement home called The Colonnade. Encouraged by Niles, he decides to go there, and tricks Martin into accompanying him; Martin believes they are on the way to see a basketball game. Frasier finds Miranda, and pretends that he is considering The Colonnade as a home for his father. Later on in the conversation, he asks her for a date, and she accepts. Meanwhile, Martin has been talking to some of the residents, who are playing poker. Frasier, of course, has no real intention of putting Martin into the home; it is only later, on his date with Miranda, that he learns his father has filled in the application. Niles and Daphne have planned a romantic dinner together, hoping to watch a meteor shower. Frasier moves them onto the roof of Elliott Bay Towers, so that he and Miranda can have some privacy. In the course of the evening, the door onto the roof closes, separating Niles and Daphne until the night watchman arrives.

Frasier adopts the role of cultural mentor to Todd Peterson, a Silicon Valley billionaire who's just become the station's new owner. Unfortunately, Peterson simply copies Frasier's tastes - and worse, gets all the credit. Meanwhile, Mel makes fresh demands upon Niles before agreeing to their divorce.

He explains that he dropped the case because he has become engaged to a client of his, but Daphne fears that he might just be on the rebound, and checks in on him for closure...at his wedding ceremony. Meanwhile, Frasier's budding relationship with Abby is going great, except for the exorbitant legal bill she charged him for her minimal services.

Roz introduces Frasier to her new boyfriend, Luke, and the two men hit it off as well. When she catches Luke cheating on her, she dumps him. It is nearly time for the Seattle Christmas Parade, and Frasier, who as a child viewed this event as marking the official start of Christmas, is keen to co-host the KACL coverage with Kelly Kirkland. He ingratiates himself by inviting her for a meal at his apartment, and prepares dishes that have featured in her Channel 6 show. She is very happy to give him the job, but the following day Kelly announces that she has food poisoning and is unable to host at all. Suddenly, Frasier finds himself co-hosting with Dr. Mary Thomas, recently returned to KACL by popular demand.

Frasier receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Seattle Broadcasting Awards. His mentor from Harvard, Professor William Tewksbury, sends him a congratulatory basket of flowers, with a note attached. Frasier over-analyzes the wording of the note and visits Tewksbury, who unearths that Frasier is experiencing deeper emotional problems. Meanwhile, Daphne is literally gaining weight by the minute, which is obvious to everyone but herself and Niles.

In the wake of his conversation with Dr. Tewkesbury, Frasier has decided to stop defining his success by his career, and to focus on his son. To this end, he invites Frederick to stay for the weekend, and makes several plans for edifying activities. He is disappointed when Frederick, now thirteen, arrives and shows no interest in spending time with his father. He prefers watching MTV, playing on his Game Boy and talking on the phone with his friends. Frustrated, Frasier decides to take his son on a camping trip, so they can bond away from all electronic distractions. When Frederick protests Frasier decides to bring Martin as well. Meanwhile, Daphne is trying to set Roz up with Niles' squash partner, an attractive surgeon called Jack, but Roz is distressed when he cancels at the last minute, claiming a medical emergency.

Frasier and Niles realize their helplessness when Frasier's car stalls, so they enroll in an auto repair night class. They quickly fall behind, and understand what it's like to be remedial students. They then take the part too far and degenerate into class clowns and become disruptive. Martin helps Roz pick out a new puppy, but after dog-sitting a few times, he starts to take over the puppy as his own.

While attending a science fiction convention for the benefit of his son, Frasier spies Jackson Hedley (Sir Derek Jacobi), an actor whom he remembers from childhood; it was this man who first introduced him to the delights of William Shakespeare. He has long since given up the stage and now plays an android called Tobor in a TV show named Space Patrol. Frasier thinks (and Niles later agrees with him) that this was a great loss to the theatre, and the brothers decide to revive Hedley's career by producing a one-man show for him. Hedley is delighted by the proposition. However, when they see him in action, the brothers start to have their doubts as to whether it is really such a good idea.

Frasier is supposed to go to a speed-dating event and asks Roz if he should wear a suit or sweater, remarking that the slightest decision can have far-reaching effects. We are shown what would have happened in each circumstance: wearing the suit, he is knocked to the floor at Nervosa by a cute girl named Monica, and they hit it off, while Roz meets a handsome co-worker named Mike; wearing the sweater, Mike is the one knocked to the floor by Monica, and Frasier goes to the speed-dating event, which ends up a disaster.

Kenny arrives at Frasier's place in a panic after unwittingly making a date with a woman even though he's married. Frasier agrees to go and cancel the date, not knowing that Kenny's wife has already chased his date away and is waiting there in her place. Thinking she's a single woman, Frasier asks her out, and she says yes. Daphne's eating problem comes to a head when she starts hiding food throughout the house and Niles finally notices her weight gain.

Frasier receives tickets to the Sonics game and goes with Martin and Niles (even though he and Niles actually had other plans). Niles is selected to attempt the halftime half-court shot, and miraculously makes it. He shamelessly drinks in the adoration of Martin and the rest of Seattle, much to Frasier's chagrin.

Roz gets the green light to put on a special radio show about outer space, and agrees to let Frasier narrate. However, the two fail to come to grips with their reversed roles (Roz calling the shots instead of Frasier) and he leaves the show. She replaces him with the astronaut John Glenn, and Frasier tries to use him to get his rejected ideas into the program.

Frasier and Niles throw a fancy party to try to convince Penelope, the trustee of a foundation, to donate money to the failing prep school they attended as children. Martin hits it off with her and they go on a date, but afterward he meets another woman named Estelle and decides to date her as well. He's confident in his juggling abilities, but isn't nearly as good as he thinks. The sons race to try to get the money before Martin drops the balls.

Frasier resigns from the wine club to host a wine show at KACL, but interrupts Niles's corkmaster inauguration speech to make his announcement. Out of revenge, Niles forbids any club members from calling into his show. Frasier goes back to the club to confront him about it, and they have a major falling-out.

Daphne discusses with him her sessions with the camp's therapist, who diagnosed her overeating as a reaction to trying to live up to Niles' perfect image of her. He dismisses this theory obnoxiously, and Daphne throws him out. Frasier helps Niles see the light by revisiting key moments between them.

So they hire a psychic evaluator to put her skills to the test. Meanwhile, Roz has started dating Frasier's mentor, Dr. Tewksbury, but Frasier has a major hang-up with their relationship.
