The human heart is a profound science. People err because they are dominated by emotions like greed, anger, and jealousy. Faced with disappearing evidence and cunning culprits, the forensic team seeks justice for the survivors and for the dead. Forensic chemist Yu Xingbai (Bosco Wong) works meticulously to find evidence. Hot-blooded policewoman Huo Baoying (Venus Wong) looks up to him, and it leads to a romance that cannot be defined scientifically. Fan Peiqing (Jacky Cai), a senior doctor of forensic medicine, is calm and wise. Roguish doctor Qin Kenan (Tony Hung) has been silently looking after her. Jing Haoran (Benjamin Yuen), a senior inspector of the serious crime team, works tirelessly alongside Tan Qianwen (Sisley Choi) in pursuit of the truth.

In a fire at a village house, a charred body is found at the scene, and the second sister of the house manager, Lok Ping, who is mobility-impaired, Yam Lok Ying, has mysteriously disappeared. Senior Inspector Jing Hao Ran of the Crime Unit, forensic pathologist Fan Pei Ching and Senior Chemist Yu Sing Pak of the Forensic Science Department jointly investigate the case and discover that Lok Ying has been kidnapped, and the kidnapper is closely related to the Yam family. Pui Ching examines the charred body and finds that the cause of death is not simple. Sing Pak searches the scene and finds that the peace bell, which only Lok Ping touches, has been tampered with.
