Episode 1

The Big Game

The Big Game episode of Food Factory serves up the perfect tailgate party menu. The first quarter starts with the Chocolate Pizza Company, whose coach has come up with a sweet twist on the classic pizza and wings duo. Then a mountain of cornmeal and serious science get called up to the big leagues to make TGI Friday's Jalapeno Poppers. In the second half, we head to the quaint Ontario village of Creemore where 10,000 litres of spring water go into a single batch of Lot 9 Pilsner. The final inning rounds out with an all-star Toronto team that's found the perfect balance of sweet and spicy with every jar of Sunflower Kitchen sweet potato chipotle chili.

Halloween

On this special Halloween episode of Food Factory, Cheryl's butters us up with butter On this special Halloween episode of Food Factory, Cheryl's butters us up with butter cream frosted jack'o'lantern cookies that are decorated by hand. We check out Jelly Belly Candy Company's haunted factory in Chicago, where they've been making candy corn since 1898. Then we take a witch's broom over to Melville Candy, where they make over 40,000 Booger Pops in one day. Food Factory fires up the grill for a special Backyard BBQ episode: Cattle BoyZ chipotle maple bacon barbecue sauce packs a sweet and spicy kick, and a single batch makes enough to fill 4,000 bottles. Del Monte Fresh's gold pineapples, all the way from Costa Rica are transformed into grill-ready extra sweet spears, and black beans and quinoa are used to make Dr. Praeger's healthy but hearty veggie burgers. And to top it all off, two condiment-loving brothersuse their grandma's original relish recipe to become the Kings of Cukes.

Canada Day

On its special Canada Day celebration, Food Factory stands on guard for some delicious treats: Butter tarts have been a Canadian tradition for 500 years, and Wendel's True Foods in B.C. can whip up 3,500 gluten-free tarts in a single batch; there's a sweet love story behind the duo from Rheo Thompson candies in Stratford, Ontario but just one ingredient in their iconic maple syrup candies; Belly Ice Cream Company's Muskoka S'mores ice cream is handcrafted in cottage country using farm-fresh Jersey milk and an obsessive attention to detail; and, Well Juicery's cold pressed virgin Canadian Caesar packs a spicy kick and delivers maximum nutrition thanks to some extreme pressure.

Food Factory celebrates love with an aphrodisiac attack: It's been said that Safie's Sexy Hot Pickled Asparagus gets you in the mood thanks to vitamin E and some red-hot chili peppers; blending forbidden fruit with a spicy chocolaty kick, Bissinger's Apple Ghost Chili Salt Caramels are made by the same company that supplied candy to Louis the XIVth; regarded as an aphrodisiac by the ancient Romans, ready-to-eat Love Beets are fresh, sweet, and x-rayed for safety; chocolate macadamia nut is among the 130 flavours of Torani syrup-a company founded by two San Franciscans in love with the tastes of their native Italy.

Winter Holidays

Food Factory celebrates the winter holidays with special treats for everyone: A Christmas staple for centuries, Fol Epi's organic pannetone rises so high while baking that the cakes are hung upside down to preserve their lofty shape; with an unmistakable pattern that's perfect for Hanukkah, It takes years of training to create Hammond's Star of David art candy; to celebrate Diwali Purdy's took a cue from Indian cuisine to create their decadent Coconut Mango Cream chocolates; and, expertly decorated to look like gingerbread men, snowmen, Christmas trees, and Santa Claus, Lady Fortune's Christmas truffle cake pops are as cute as they are delicious.

Thanksgiving

Food Factory celebrates Thanksgiving with four holiday favourites: Producing up to 500,000 bags per week, it takes a massive tunnel oven and a mountain of dough to keep up with demand for Pepperidge Farms' stuffing; inspired by mom's original recipe, Wendel's True Foods pumpkin pie is gluten free and made with love; an artistic epiphany led to the creation of Lady Fortune's crispy marshmallow treats that are shaped like hearts, but decorated like turkeys; and, Terra Beata's cranberry sauce is made in Nova Scotia using farm-fresh cranberries from the company's own bog.

Fiesta

Food Factory spices things up with a special fiesta episode: At Cedarlane's massive California kitchen, modern technology meets Mexican tradition to produce up to 14,000 chili and cheese tamales per shift; thanks to some ingeniously designed bottles, Blackfly Beverage Company's tequila margarita freezes into the perfect boozy slush; employees at Snack King enjoy an all-you-can-eat policy as 24 million guacamole-flavoured Guacachips roll off the assembly line every day; and, also known as Mexican wedding cookies, Too Good Gourmet's citrus polvorones are hand-shaped to perfection and lovingly coated in cinnamon sugar.

Food Factory serves up the ultimate Movie Night menu with chocolaty Smarties, salty and sweet Island Mix, gourmet ice cream sandwiches, and Moon Pie Bites.

Birthdays

Food Factory blows out the candles on a special birthday episode: Featuring a delicious swirl of culinary alchemy, a single batch of Reid's Dairy's Birthday Cake ice cream contains buckets of blue marshmallow ripple and millions of sprinkles; edible waffle bowls from the Joy Cone Company are so popular the company produces 280,000 of them every day; machine spun cotton candy was first invented in 1897, and has since been perfected by the pros at Hammond's Candy; and, shaped like a giant cupcake and filled with chocolate-covered pretzels, Gardners Candies BashCake is an edible chocolate piñata that comes with its own wooden mallet.

Valentine's Day

Food Factory gets to the heart of Valentine's Day with four romantic treats: At Tawse Winery in Ontario, it takes sugar, yeast, and some high tech equipment to transform Riesling grapes into 20,000 bottles of bubbly; perfect for a seductive Italian meal, Regina Noodle's red and white heart-shaped pasta is made with love and three kinds of cheese; featuring champagne mousse and strawberry swirls, Wow Factor Desserts' decadent cheesecake, made in Alberta, has romance written all over it; and, the Berry Blast Ring Pop is more than just a fun candy-it's become an engagement tradition.

Easter

Food Factory hops to it with an Easter special featuring four seasonal favourites: Before being hand-twisted into their signature shape, Hammond's carrot-shape lollipops start out as a giant blob of red-hot candy; at Quebec's La Cabosse d'Or Chocolaterie, it takes a steady hand and superior Belgian chocolate to create deluxe Easter eggs with a special surprise inside; adorable Peeps are the number-one selling non-chocolate Easter treat; and, in order to turn out thousands of hot cross buns, the transplanted Brits behind British Baked Goods still do things the old fashioned way.
