Music superstar Hazel's life implodes when she discovers her husband Derek is not only cheating on her but gave the song that was supposed to be her latest single to his mistress. After Hazel's breakup, best friends Ari and Bree have an honest conversation with her about their lives. Bree confesses that her husband cheated on her, while Ari admits that she stopped practicing law to focus on her husband's political career. The women vow to prioritize their friendship, as Ari helps Hazel to release her single. Series premiere.

Hazel goes on a spending spree to get revenge on Derek and is mortified when he cuts her off. Once Derek makes it clear he'll find a way for Hazel to get nothing, Ari agrees to be Hazel's divorce lawyer. Bree and Gary go to a marriage counselor where Bree is surprised to learn that Gary has been unhappy for years. Bree attempts to "share the load" in their relationship, but a run-in with the woman Gary cheated with makes Bree realize she wants a divorce. Ari is put in an awkward position when David accepts a campaign donation from Derek.

Derek announces his engagement to Stella, further angering Hazel. Ari and David clash about Derek's growing involvement in David's campaign. Unable to track down Hazel's prenup, Ari, Hazel and Bree orchestrate a heist to break into Derek's penthouse. With the help of Hazel's tech-whiz stepdaughter Versace, the women download all of Derek's computer files in the hopes of getting his copy of Hazel's prenup. Reeling from another fight with Gary, a hurt Bree serves Gary with divorce papers.

Ari is pissed when a scandalous video of her daughter Megan is leaked, but discovers her daughter has a better relationship and grasp on what she wants for her life than Ari has herself. Bree starts to face the reality of what life would be like without Gary when he becomes less available and begins to date someone new. Hazel is forced to sell off her prized possessions in an auction to help with her financial situation as her divorce is in flux. After a revealing conversation with Derek, Hazel decides to self-release her own album.

Hazel brings Ari and Bree to a party for a music producer who could help her career, but once there, Hazel decides to release her album herself. Ari wrestles with feeling unsatisfied and unfulfilled in her marriage with David when she runs into an old flame, Wesley, at the party. High on peyote, Ari has a wild sexual fantasy about Wesley and questions whether or not it really happened. Bree also has a crazy high that leads her to an awakening about her feelings for Gary - she still loves him.

Feeling guilty, Ari tries to reignite the spark in her marriage with David but an argument leads to Ari seeking alone time at her parents' vacation house. After an encounter with Gary and his new girlfriend, Bree gets a makeover in an attempt to win Gary back at a birthday party. Later, Bree and Gary hook up in the bounce house. Khalil confronts Hazel about promoting her new album when she hasn't written any new material. Khalil helps Hazel return to her roots at an open mic night, after which they finally hook up.

Hazel and Bree go to Sag Harbor to support Ari. As they reminisce about Ari's wedding, and how unhappy she was in her relationship even then, Ari remembers how she kissed Wesley the night before her wedding and learned she was pregnant with David's baby moments before she walked down the aisle. Hazel recalls her fight with Ari at the rehearsal dinner and how she secretly had an abortion after the wedding. In the present, Bree admits she slept with Gary and Ari considers divorcing David. David shows up unannounced to ask Ari for a vow renewal.

Hazel finishes her album and is thrilled that her single is in the top ten. David plans a romantic weekend for Ari. Bree discovers Gary is still seeing Melissa even though they've been consistently hooking up and urges him to break things off with her. Bree tells Gary she no longer wants a divorce, but Gary isn't as sure. Later, Derek approaches Hazel with an offer to partner with him in a new label. Hazel joins Derek's new venture, leading Bree to kick Hazel out of her house and Ari to quit as her lawyer.
Episode 9

Ari meets with a former coworker, who offers a job at her law firm. Ari and David have an argument about whether Ari will move to Albany. Bree returns to her marriage counselor and realizes she's ready to work on her marriage. Hazel and Derek discuss touring together, but she decides working with him again would be a mistake and calls off the partnership. A major announcement is made at Hazel's album release party.
