Vain, unemployed actor Richie Rich wakes up in bed with his sleazy minder Catflap, and while Catflap is checking to see if Rich has a bottom rash, they're interrupted by a milkman they mistake for a tabloid journalist....and kill. Rich's agent Filthy arrives to announce that Rich is the subject of a paternity case. After accidentally killing more milkmen, they arrive at the hospital where Rich has persuaded Catflap to impersonate him to foil the DNA test, unaware that the whole thing is a scam cooked up by Catflap and his cousin, the baby's mother, to fleece him. After they make up, Rich and Catflap try to get rid of the corpses...and run into policemen doing the same thing.

After a disastrous appearance on "Ooer Sounds a Bit Rude", Richie stumbles into the Nolan Sisters' dressing room and ends up being blackmailed by them. When he and Eddie try to force the required money from Filthy Ralph, they end up owing him as well.

Richie plans a dinner party for his showbiz pals to celebrate his 10 years in the biz. But since neither he nor Eddie has any money to buy food, they steal it. Filthy arranges an alibi for Richie for getting him a gig doing comedy at a peep-show.

Out of work for three months, Rich pitches his idea for game show 'Star Golfing Secrets' to BBC head of nice entertainment Jumbo Whiffy, but Whiffy tricks him into signing over the rights for two pints. Hearing that his father is dying, Rich proposes to cash in on it by inviting celebrities to the funeral, but when father recovers, son considers murder. This plan is also scotched when Rich gets a letter from his mother explaining that nobody knows who his real father is. But she does enclose an exploding birthday cake.

Filthy gets Rich a spot reading the celeb news on breakfast television. Since he must be at the studio at 4:30 AM, Rich wants to have a quiet night in playing Trivial Pursuit, but Catflap drags him round a series of nightclubs. He turns up to the studio on time but thoroughly wasted, and he reads out a news story of his own bad behavior before getting arrested.

Eddie and Richie are on trial for showing their bare behinds on TV-AM. Filthy manages to get them off scot-free, then is sentenced to be hanged himself. Since Richie and Eddie are prohibited from seeking work in the entertainment business, they reluctantly decide to try journalism.
