Episode 1
The Winds of Change

Father Brown admires Kembleford's new miniature buildings model town, but spots anomalies in the posted figures, each time announcing a murder. Chief Inspector Sullivan temporarily mans the police station command as his predecessor finally got a transfer and he is suspended from special branch in London after unmasking his superior as corrupt, but his 'bannishment' is made permanent when the fiend's political protector wins out. Mrs McCarthy having returned to Ireland to mind her troublesome sister, Brown also auditions for her job as parish secretary and housekeeper, but only reluctantly settles for a dull, prudish widow as secretary, who won't do any housekeeping or sleuthing. the latter is more to the taste of chaotic candidate Mrs. Devine, turned as inefficient and dangerously clumsy, yet to his taste, as she helps loo for victim links.

The Company of Men

Brenda Palmer, whom Father Brown met at a girls reformatory, asks help after being accused of theft by Jasper Granford, who owns the gentlemen's club she worked at. Lady Felicia and Mrs Devine, to whom she takes an instant dislike as poor replacement for McCarthy, decide to accompany them, but make a scene to protest at no ladies being allowed, except on staff. Father Brown quickly discovers the real culprit is Granford's own son, party animal Albert 'Bertie'. Jasper is murdered and his safe robbed, Inspector Sullivan arrests Bertie who is desperate for money for an illegitimate child, Brown promises to find out the truth. Father Brown and friends uncover that club member colonel Partridge disappeared leaving behind his bloody jacket, club manager John Harrow was bankrupted by Jasper like many firms he acquired, and Jasper's wife Charlotte felt abused by him. Brenda is befriended by night cleaner Moira, who worked in a theatre Granford bankrupted, teaching her to juggle. The jacket's odor of candle-wax and turpentine inspires Brown to work out the 'inexistant' culprit. Brenda becomes Father Brown's housekeeper.

The Gardeners of Eden

Celebrity florist Octavia Eden, diagnosed with a terminal illness, returns from London to native Kembleford, moving into a manor with her daughter Lizzy Eden and niece Noele Scharma. She sets both a series of tasks to determine who will inherit her firm and the estate. At such event, thrown for he neighborhood, the manor's previous owner John Mulch, who earlier rudely dragged his wife Marjorie back home, dies of aconite poisoning. John was an embittered grump and Sullivan arrests his wife, who grows aconite in her back garden. Believing her innocent, Brown probes why Octavia Eden had left Kembleford heartbroken 45 years previously, thereby inadvertently getting Brenda Palmer arrested for breaking and entering. The daughter and niece call a truce and complete the last task together to the delight of the dying Octavia Eden, knowing they had more in common than she had told them. Their past and link with the Mulches proves the key.

The Beast of Wedlock

The vicar of the village of Wedlock, Reverend Duncan, asks father Brown's help to find his churchwarden Sam Wadey's adult son Gabriel Wadey, who went missing after skinny bathing ostentatiously. His clothes being found torn, later nearby a bloody bone, the stud is rumored devoured by the phantom big cat that allegedly attacked sculptor Sylvia Garcia, for whom he modeled. Her visiting ex-husband, professor Garcia, is making money from writing about the legendary exotic cat. Sam Wadey had saved Brown's life when they served in the Great War. When reverend Duncan's corpse is found in his church, seemingly attacked by the cat. Cued by the extravagant duchess who was his lover and just painted the beast, inspector Sullivan arrests Sam Wadey, who is soon released following Father Brown's discovery that Professor Garcia hid Gabriel's affair with Sylvia, whom Gabriel intended dumping to move to London as a gigolo. Duncan's hobby zoology inspires Father Brown, who gets knocked unconscious in the other church, to find the whereabouts of Gabriel and catch the tragic killer.

The Hidden Man

Flambeau is being framed for theft and murder across Europe when valuables he stole 25 years earlier are being re-stolen and his monogrammed handkerchief calling card is left at each scene. He asks Brown's help as the last item, a gold bracelet, is up for auction nearby. Inspector Sullivan in pursuit of Flambeau receives an anonymous tip and arrives at the auction house as an ex-con security guard is murdered and the bracelet stolen. Flambeau is captured claiming the auctioneer stabbed the guard, but slipped the bracelet to Brown, anticipating Sullivan arrests Flambeau, hoping this high-profile case to be his ticket back to Scotland Yard, despite Father Brown pointing out contrary evidence supporting Flambeau's claim. Team Brown investigates the background of the bracelet, its theft 25 years ago and the suicide of a ruined businessman philanthropist, the auctioneer's father. Father Brown is kidnapped by the killer and his accomplice. Flambeau escapes from Sullivan to find Father Brown and the bracelet.

The Royal Visit

The planned a royal visit by Princess Margaret to open a new school library in Kembleford is in doubt when the library is found vandalized and lush caretaker Raymond Harrison next morning found hammer-skull-smashed. Harrison, a pickpocket who had been in prison, carried a locket with a schoolgirl photo of the current headmistress Amanda Clement, whom inspector Sullivan arrests as her fingerprints are on the murder weapon, which is found in her desk. Harrison owed money to ambitious mayor Wood, who now gets the glory to receive the princess, instead of the principal, who hopes to stand against him in the next election. Royal protection officer inspector Beckett and Royal aide Elizabeth Barnes, were also present. Father Brown is more interested in a gold lighter that Barnes had, which actually belonged to Princess Margaret, pick-pocketed from Barnes and recovered by Inspector Beckett who knew of Harrison's past. An old newspaper seen at Harrison's, now missing, yields the crucial clue for Brown, relying on Sullivan remembering a football match played in 1937 to identify the date and identify the killer.

The Show Must Go On

The Kembleford Players need help preparing Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing in memory of director Patrick Maitland's and his actress wife Charlotte's baby, who died in her cot some years earlier while Patrick minded her. Mrs Devine plays co-lead Beatriceafter Charlotte actually breaks a leg. Father Brown plays the Friar and Sergeant Goodfellow a number of minor roles. Rose helps with the papier-mâché props. Protagonist Jeremy Sandford is poisoned by weed killer in his hip flask. Father Brown discovers he was a con-man and blackmailer who ruined victims including players' relatives, operating with an accomplice. Inspector Sullivan receives anonymous letters leading to arrest first local farmer Thomas Church, then Patrick Maitland ,who was Sandford's best friend and had an identical hip flask. Mrs Devine is pleased when Inspector Sullivan agrees to play the lead. Brown works out the whole scam and revenge plot.

The Sands of Time

Brenda is hired as extra waitress at wealthy clock collector Oswald Hartigan's home party for the unveiling of his latest acquisition: a valuable world-famous Nightingale clock. Brenda is smitten with Sir's manservant Jake Hunt. Father Brown and Mrs Devine are invited, hosted by Hartigan's younger wife Betty, his maid whom he married after his first wife died; his spenderbug playboy son Lord Quentin Hartigan who gets cut off for insolence on the spot, and Oswald's estranged old friend, watch repairer Stan Hoskens. Quentin is found skull-smashed, apparently with the priceless clock which is missing, Father Brown notices coal dust in his hand. Inspector Sullivan arrests Hoskens, on whom is discovering a blood stained handkerchief. Brenda finds the clock in Hunt's wardrobe. Brown puzzles together the sudden 'reconciliation' between father and son before the murder, coal dust on Oswald's tie, Betty's craving for coal, Hosken's relationship with Hartigan, and Jake Hunt's past as a wartime refugee from landed Polish stock.

The Wheels of Wrath

Motorbike gang the Ton Up's, all in leather, arrive in Kembleford. Member Roger Norton seems to be on a 'pilgrimage', lighting a candle in St Mary's. When he is killed at their umpteenth -illegal- street race by barbed wire strung across the road, Sullivan and team Brown investigate. The suspects were all at a local cafe owned by Denny Beaton estranged from his family, from whom gang leader Billy Turner had stolen money. Norton had taken Turner's place in a race at the last minute. Denny's shy adolescent cafe assistant Lance South had an argument and threatened Turner, who grossly tripped him while taunting he got South silently adored dream girl Lisa Morris, who is trying to escape her domineering mother and was rebuffed by Turner. Inspector Sullivan arrests South, sergeant Goodfellow is distracted by his upcoming detective exam. Father Brown discover, with with sergeant Goodfellow's help, why Roger Norton had lit a candle in church : Turner and Norton were involved in the death of a beloved in London. Father Brown challenges Turner to a race, bicycle v motorbike, proving opportunity, and baits the tragic real killer.
