When Urkel collapses in the living room, everyone thinks he's faking since Laura had just spurned him (again). However, Urkel's appendix is about to burst and he is rushed to the hospital. The Winslows think they'll have a few nerd-free days ... that is, until Carl is shot while trying to foil a robbery; he had managed to apprehend one suspect, but the other is still at large. Because all of the hospital rooms are full, Carl is placed in the only available room - the same one as Urkel! Naturally, the two mix like fire and water as they drive each other crazy. While Urkel is in the restroom trying to cool off, Then, an orderly comes into the room, but he turns out to be the robbery suspect's brother wanting revenge. Just before the bad guy is about to complete his mission, Urkel clonks him over the head with a bedpan. Carl and Urkel apologize and decide to get along for the rest of their hospital stays.

Of course, Urkel, Eddie and Waldo wind up causing a whole lot of hijinks and get on the wrong side of a tough drill sergeant before they can talk things out. Meanwhile, Carl and Harriette deal with a shady repairman.

During the end credits, Steve and Maxine shares a dance together after Ted and Laura make up. Meanwhile, Carl gives Harriette exercise equipment for her birthday, to no surprise, it makes her feel worse. He immediately returns the trampoline and buys her a diamond bracelet to make up for his insensitivity.

In the literal sense, Laura is trying to get back together with class hunk Ted Curran, but when Urkel tries out his new super glue (to repair Laura's broken earring), he accidentally gets his hand stuck on Laura's shoulder ... just as Ted shows up! In the relationship sense, Carl buys a used police car at auction, hoping a restoration project will be the key to bonding with Eddie. But Eddie wants his project partner to be Waldo instead, causing Harriette to set her son straight.

A slick-talking college recruiter tries to woo Eddie to his college for his basketball skills (and certainly not his meager academic credentials). Harriette is skeptical about the college's academic program and gets a former college basketball player - who eventually flunked out of school where Eddie wants to go after he got injured - to help set an impressionable Eddie straight. Meanwhile, a sleep-famished Laura is determined to study for her SATs and get into Harvard Law School, so she gets Urkel to stand in for her while she sneaks off to the library. Laura eventually sees that her desire to get a perfect score is endangering her health.

Meanwhile, Fletcher Thomas proposes to Estelle, and her answer upsets Carl.

Jimmy has demanded her to stop talking to Jerkel. At the prom, Steve shocks and impresses his fellow classmates by bringing his beautiful girlfriend, Myra, as his date. Waldo and Maxine also are enjoying their time together and bonds with them. He gets over being protective of his sister, Quesidilla and lets her enjoy her date with Weasel. However, Laura is having a terrible time at the dance with Jimmy. She immediately tells him that she's better off with Steve as a friend over a possessive jerk like him. She leaves him out on the dance floor with him begging her to come back. Carl and Harriette, who both got early leave from their jobs, went to the Junior Prom and dance the night away.

Laura is finally fed up with Steve coming over her house, promoting his unrequited love for her and his constant ignoring of his girlfriend. She tells him to concentrate on his relationship with Myra and leave her alone. He takes this literally and begins spending more time with her. At first, Laura's really happy about not having Steve around, helps her mother out with the house, focused more at school in her class, cheer leading and even tries to work out her relationship with her ex-boyfriend. Two months later, she's real depressed about the whole thing. Ted has recently dumped her again for another girl, her high GPA suffered and Steve hasn't returned any of her calls. She has been crying herself to sleep more. Her aunt, Rachel reminds her that she told Steve to leave her alone and spend more time with Myra. Laura nodded her head and said she didn't expect him to listen to her. She expected him to keep coming over to the house without warning and annoy her with his love for her. Steve and Myra visit her from the opera as she was reading a romance novel. She was happy to see her friend again after two months of unreturned calls and hugs him. Myra comes out of the bathroom and falsely accuses Laura of trying to steal Steve away from her. She tells her to go find someone else. Steve tells his girlfriend that his friend, Laura is just happy to see him after after two months of leaving her alone and reaffirms his love for Myra, not her. Meanwhile, Carl has taken a part-time job at Mighty Weenie with his son, who work there full time. Together, they become the dynamic duo of weenies and they are successful. Until the manager tells Eddie that he's been promoted. The next day, he literally abuses his job and treats his father horribly. Later on, he learns a valuable lesson from Harriette that his co-workers either family or friend deserves respect.
